14. I have been informed by SCO's engineers and consultants that since the only version of AIX source code that was available for comparison purposes is several years old, and predates most of IBM's contributions to Linux, it was not possible to directly compare IBM's contributions to Linux with the most likely source of those contributions, namely the missing versions of AIX (including the most recent versions).
15. Further, we have only one CD of Dynix/ptx source code that was produced by IBM, and this CD only contains a limited history of Dynix/ptx releases. It was therefore not possible to directly compare IBM's contributions to Linux with another likely source of those contributions, namely the missing versions of Dynix/ptx.
They said they HAVE the proof and you needed to sign an NDA to see it. Yet no all the sudden they don't have all the information required to FIND the evidence they need. So, all these claims are just speculation now? Well, if I can sue for 3 billion off speculation, someones poor multi-billion dollar company is in alot of trouble. Hmmm, I wonder how the judge will see this. What they claim to have had, and what they have are two different things. They have nothing and just admited to it.
However Congress is concerned about how to pay for the new space policy initiative in the face of a $500 billion national budget deficit.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. All those huge tax cuts helps the economy, but they hurt other things. These two wars in the Middle East cost billions, and now billions more for science but the monies are gone. Less Incoming, more spending, equal your screwed. Bush will have no choice but to raise taxes, he will just be lucky enough to not have to do it until after he gets re-elected. After that it won't matter.
Expect your bill soon. Someone will have to foot it.
Always thought Austin was a very cool town. Sort of out of place in Texas.
Umm, whats that mean? Austin is very Texas, how is it out of place? You ever been to Dallas, Houston, or any other of Texas's larger cities? By your quote I doubt it. If you mean by a technology stand point, Dallas is second only to the Silicon Valley in technology firms. Music? (Sixth Street) Texas has always been known for music too.
Don't diss it if you don't know anything about it. You never know. You would probably like Texas. There is alot to like about it.
Yes, but if that code was included into other product by the license agreement, and then years later that license is stricken. No judge would allow SCO to lay claim to the code in those products. That would be like Novell selling System V code to SCO and them actually revoking everyone ones license that had bought it. (oh wait! thats what they are doing!!!)
Anyway, they couldn't allow SCO to do that because those products where done in the eyes of that agreement and therefor would remain that way. It would be like prohibition starting up tomorrow and throwing everyone that works for Miller in jail because they made beer today. It was done legally, and it would remain legal.
IP Telephony is VoIP you are just being picky. It is voice communication over the IP ptotocol which is exactly what IP Telephony is. Chances are they have been using the VoIP that you are talking about for along time now. Hell, anyone who makes a long distance call today is probably using VoIP. The cost savings of VoIP over the traditional switched networks is enormous. How do you think all these long distance companies offer unheard of rates these days compared to before?
How would this guy know? He never uses his own product!
?? WTF? He has a very good point. While he isn't supporting his own business on a selling point, he is saving the MS Hell * 2 that exist for RedHat. Dumbass users wasting funds that could be used to build a more customer friendly product. There is no doubt that Windows is far easier to understand that Linux as your programs are usually called what they are. not XMMS, grep, awk, or sed and I'm being very generetic about my examples. Linux isn't for the avg Computer lame user. While it maybe easy for you and I. My mother would be completely lost. Compile a kernel ? Is that like boiling corn? Think first. Our day will come. Until then, lets fight for a better OS.
But I would like to note. They are afriad of losing there customers??? Well get your service up to par. If you arn't willing to give them the service they want, you don't deserve their business. At this point the only reason you keep business is because they are chained to their phone number. Good for the FCC. Kill big company bullshit tactics.
I don't think shielding kids is the answer. It's better kids have an understanding of the way the world is before they get the shock of their life setting foot out in the "Real World". While GTA isn't really what I would want my kids playing at a very young age (even though I own Vice City myself) I wouldn't have as much of an issue if they were 15+. I think the parents are to blame though. Generally this is caused my the parents not taking a proactive roll in their children's lives. It's better a parent teach then children, than some hooligan that lives down the street.
Moving to Canada? You think that will make life better? All countries have short comings. At least in America you can attempt to vote out the garbage. Then again, your competing with 200+ million ID10T errors while doing so.
Mr. Bush is on track to follow his fathers lead. Exit after a single term. Bush flaunts his power, and he will be persecuted for it come election time. I don't completely blame him though. He was groomed by his administration to be the lead puppet well before hand because they knew he could win the election, but wasn't competent enough to lead. If you want the real culprits look to those like Donald Rumsfield, Ralph Wolfowitz, and some of the others in his administration.
Speaking bad about Bush on this board lowers your karma as you can already see. Most of those are the type of people that scream about Free Speech, then try to punish you for your comments about Bush by hurting your karma. Such sorry punkass bastards. They should use the points for what they were intended. To promote great post, not for there own personal (vendetta) agenda.
Umm. I've never known John to be a political person. Where did you get this info? Can you point to some place were you've seen a political side to him? Ego? That I wouldn't doubt, but to say he uses politics to influence is blasphemy. He has done nothing more than produce the best rendering engines known to man. He did that by knowing the ABCs about rendering, and not having a corporate board of directors/share holders breathing down his neck. Generally, if it comes from his mouth and it's about rocketry or 3D rendering; it's probably true or a best educated guess from someone of his knowledge. Political; I think not.
Why does every little peep that is pro SCO get spewed all over the investers headlines, yet when they get slam dunked (like yesterdays disputed code) only hit Open Source supported headlines?
One of the execs at my company holds quite abit of SCO stock, but he knows nothing of any of the claims against SCO's stance because all his invester news fails to note these facts?
It's as if SCO was in bed with AOL/Time Warner and all other media/invester outlets.
Has anyone else see any see any negative (towards SCO I mean) information about SCO in the headlines?

Is this story classified as "News for Nerds" or is it "Stuff that matters"?

This is just plain stupid.
I doubt this can happen because there are (6,000?) licenses based on the System V code. Releasing System V code would undermind all of those licenses.
RIAA == SCO

Sun says Linux isn't the future, yet they have no qualm of selling a million of them to China :)

I'm an Internet User, and I don't consider Internet Highjacking a helpful tool to navigate the web.
Thats just nitpicking. Get over it. It's a PC nothing more.
Maybe because now SCO owns AT&T's rights?

DIE DIE DIE :)
You took his kudos out of context. In business it's about money. Making money in business means you are doing something right.
Anyhow, how did you associate Enron in this? Money is something they only claimed to of had.
Sadly, prison terms won't be used to enforce of the new law.
Jail time? How about death sentence.

You are blinded by zealotism...
Another VI (Postfix) Emacs (qmail) flamewar!
I guess that would make Sendmail SED.

Goodyear. My Goodyear tires are at fault for my car horn not working... Those blasted 3rd party developers.
