  2. It's not the number, it's the matching name on The Problem of Search Engines and "Sekrit" Data · · Score: 0

Anyone can generate a credit card number very easily in 2 or 3 minutes, starting with random numbers and putting it through the LUHN scheme used to verify numbers. So you can easily come up with a working credit card number - but it's the matching name that's important.
Hell, you could shluck any old (LUHN-passing) CC number into a site, with a random name from the telephone book and it would verify nine times out of ten...

I don't know if the technology is different now, but not-too-long-ago I know some computer companies required a screen to have two or three dead pixels in an area about the size of a quarter before they would replace it. It's not easy to make a fully functioning LCD screen.

True, but my gripe with that sort of system would be the ridiculous amount of scrolling you'd have to do. Books are nice because you only need to turn the page every 45 seconds or so; scrolling would be a PITA.

  10. Give Blood some credit! on Anime and the Future of Digital Animation · · Score: 1

I saw the movie a few months ago at the first screening in New England and it was pretty good! The digital animation is very clean and striking. It's only about 45 minutes long, and I recommend watching it if you get the chance.

My Neighbors the Yamadas is also all-digital, but the way Ghibli (woohoo :) did the artwork, it looks extremely good; it looks like handpainted watercolors. (A great movie, btw.) Pure digital animation has real potential.

The only way we'd have been able to see the movie is if my mother went along with us, and well, she had other things to do. Seeing as movie theatres are pretty much a monopoly where I live (boston area) there was no way to see the movie (and the place lost 20 bucks anyway). There's something very wrong here...
