This is a whole layer of confusion that Windows and OSX don't have.
Neither does Fedora, Ubuntu, SUSE, Mandriva and many others. They already have their default choices and configurations for software in the distribution. And you can test drive many of them before starting to use one.
"why didn't you just put the swap file on another drive completely? "
As far as I know you have to have the pagefile on the %systemroot% in order to get crash dump in Windows.
"Don't Fucking buy it" strategy is hurting the end user. Say if the computer hardware vendors had the same relationship with the software vendors; Microsoft rolls out their own bundled hardware/software computer. In that case, say you can buy a computer worth 1000$ for 500$, but you have to pay 50$ a month for 2 years and you are not allowed to install non-MS software on it. Well you can still choose not to fucking buy it.
Wireless carrier should not be the distributors for Cell Phones. They should be providing better wireless service for their costumers, not giving them a better cell phone for two years for reduced price. The problem isn't with Apple, they played it honest. Problem is with the cell phone industry where carriers milk the innovation from the Cell Phone hardware vendors without providing better quality and cheaper wireless service.
"On the third, I attempted to test what had happened on the second, by just grabbing a random used hard drive (containing some version of Windows) and installing Ubuntu on it, accepting all default choices. Ubuntu choked. (Possible causes: multiple partitions, fragmentation, Win swap file in the middle of the area Ubuntu wanted.)"
On the other hand Windows Installation has no effort to determine any non-MS Operating Systems on the machine. No detection of partitions other than FAT,NTFS. Replaces the MBR after the installation. That makes Windows "not really ready for the general public to install, not on a NON-Win machine that's been in use".
Very much impossible to do as an end-user, but doable by a programmer with sufficient skill (dependent on how different the applications are, and how well they're coded) and free time (and source code access).
I don't understand; then that guy has to rewrite all the applications with that has a GUI????
I recently saw a news bit about some "AI" system that can learn to recognize simple pictures in approximately this fashion, and I'd imaging categorizing sounds would follow similar principles. So, these two are probably half-way doable by someone who takes enough interest in such things to follow current research (and has obscene amounts of free time).
even though it can be doable, but what if done. Every picture will be have to compared with the rest of pictures in the folder, that is a very big number of comparison to make, which will require a lot of processing power. This might not be feasible to run on a regular hardware as it would require more time then manual sorting.
You can even just 'apt-get search'.
I don't think you can use search operation with apt-get. 'aptitude search' should work though.

Can't wait to put my porn collection on "surface". I hope the "52 simultaneous touches" includes slapping.
Since public already paid for the construction of Turn Pike shouldn't it be toll free then?

What about Leisure Suit Larry???
That means a geek had a wife.. Does that mean there is still hope for me.. :P
The real question is; Does Size matter more in Metric?
Does it run Linux?
