Har har! Don't worry, we're all just gonna probably start using SSL for everything, anyway. All of our discussions here will probably be worth shit all (including mine).
God, I imagine those deluges are leading to quite a bit of usable data in a short-time frame! Are you planning to modify the results any on any kind of basis that most Digg and Slashdot (well, at least Slashdot) users are somewhat more technically literate (don't know if it makes any kind of difference in a test like this, but I'm curious).
ISP's inserting ads into web pages?...
2. What kind of moron would continue using an ISP like this? Why would an ISP that did this stay in business another day?
This whole subject doesn't make any sense to me. #1 90% of computer users.
#2 Because there's no other choice for most users when it comes to ISP's.
They'll see it, and they won't care or probably even notice. (I've got users who can't even find buttons on a web page -- and this is when they look like standard OS buttons.)
No, it's definitely possible to hide a website within another frame. Just remove the borders -- not that 90% of web users know what the fuck a frame border looks like, anyway.
Or going overseas? IANAL, and the RIAA cartel's arm does reach pretty far internationally, but I'd assume the RIAA wouldn't be able to do anything to them...
Or, perhaps a bit more plainly, "Privacy protects us from abuses by those in power..." It's very hard to convince someone of this, though, when it's their party in power.
Especially when they think their elected leader was largely chosen by God.
I revel in the fact that I have a small number of friends on Facebook -- to me, it means that the friends I have listed are close associates, and not shallow acquaintances like someone who has hundreds.
I second this -- I live in Bumfuck, Alabama (middle of nowhere, seriously), and I'm getting 8Mbp/s down and 1.7Mbp/s up with Comcast. Something's fishy.
You know... your post just made me realize why they don't play full videos on MTV anymore -- god forbid someone tape the audio off their TV. The RIAA was probably all over that one.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but on Audible Magic's "CopySense Appliance" website (what I'm thinking this is all about), it lists how it can also block child pornography -- kind of setting their sites a little high there, aren't they? Would it just be searching for some kind of file name, or what?
...but I really don't think any of these candidates know very much about what an operating system actually is (and are only repeating what they're told to say).
To tell you the truth, I've had just about every single one of my friends tell me to read the book, but I've been too busy reading everything William Gibson has ever wrote to find the time.

I tried that one. The internet seemed a lot more peaceful and calm, though less informative.

Actually... theoretically, would this be somehow "between" client-side and server-side? I'm having a hard-time classifying this type of interception.
Is there a way you could set this up on an https connection? Or would that automatically negate any ISP's attempts? (Or would it not matter?)

Couldn't the ISP just edit the contents of this well-known location you're looking for when you request it, however?

...Unless you add the ability for web-pages to dictate that they should not be in frames, this one can't really be trapped for like that... That should do it.No, it's definitely possible to hide a website within another frame. Just remove the borders -- not that 90% of web users know what the fuck a frame border looks like, anyway.
A potentially relationship-ending addiction?
Too bad that it's simply impossible for a lot of people to switch when there's only one or two providers in your area.
Don't feel bad about not knowing -- the confusion was intentional on Microsoft's part.
Same for me -- important passwords, like my bank's online account access, I never allow anything to save, not even Firefox.
Or going overseas? IANAL, and the RIAA cartel's arm does reach pretty far internationally, but I'd assume the RIAA wouldn't be able to do anything to them...

I hope I'm not being too specific here.
...you may not even know when you're committing it! We need the government to always watch us.

The word was that ATI/AMD was going to release AGP cards for the HD 2000 line, but I haven't heard any word of it in a couple of months.

[Geek status, restored!]
Hey -- the article never said they were on a RP server! That's a whole different enchilada, there.
