One thing you also might not be aware of is that at the time, you couldn't OWN a telephone - they all belonged to ATT/Ma Bell. In fact that was more-or-less true into the late 70's/early 80s. And they were all identical designs (actually there were two different designs but completely standardized) so your coupler would work with any of them. Tell me, O ancient one -- it's going to be like that with computers one day, isn't it?
Part of me wonders if there's a "breaking point" -- a point where Chinese officials will start loving money so much that they actually won't kick out a company that decides to take a stand against them.
I find my rating of "flamebait" personally hilarious, since if you'd read my blog you'd find that I am (and have always) been an OLPC supporter. I'm just beginning to get a bit jaded at the constant setbacks, and I've always found that a few personal jabs in the direction of a company you're trying to help can sometimes light a fire under their ass.
I also make fun of ATI (I love them, only use them, but their Linux support is terrible) and AMD (once again, I run only AMD, but they should've spent less money on buying ATI and more money on developing 65nm chips).
Ask a Christian about carbon dating, and they'll say "it doesn't exist" or "its full of errors."
You don't really ever have to ask a Christian to explain anything, since their answer will inevitably be the ultimate academic cop-out: "God did it."
Shh.... you shouldn't piss off the makers of our cheap plastic Happy Meal toys and inexpensive flat-screen TV's. I'm sure they're just searching for information on our networks that would enable them to get the price of a DVD player in Wal-Mart below $20.
And what kind of rations do you feed a cyber soldier, anyway? Do we need cyber medics, cyber support units, a cyber mess hall? An unending supply of coffee and some of those cool amphetamines they give to marines and fighter pilots should do the trick.
...volunteer myself for Operation Screaming Fist, whenever they're ready to move out. Just give me my glider and my Ono-Sendai IX and I'll be ready to go.
...Now what does Dell support do in the event that the end users are using KDE? "Sorry, but DELL only supports users of Ubuntu using the GNOME interface. Please reinstall GNOME and contact tech support again."
Problem is... NOBODY drives "properly." The new numbers released by the EPA are much, much closer to what 90% of drivers are going to get when it comes to fuel consumption.
You are so not the market that Shuttleworth is trying to target... I guarantee you that at least (pulls number from betwixt buttocks) 90% of the people that will ultimately buy these Ubuntu-preinstalled computers will have no idea what the hell a "package" is.
Okay, I just looked up Ender's Game. I knew you weren't being serious, though.
...I've met 10 year-olds that could code circles around some "professionals" I know. It's the way the world's getting.
How can one party ask to "change the deal" when the other party is talking out of its ass?

...and I'm going to just love seeing them trying to enact these requirements here.
...that the OLPC will be released sometime within the next decade.

Make sure and use Imperial kilograms in your conversion.
You lie!
...it's just so cute! Forget more bullets, we'll just disarm our opponents with cuteness from now on.
Dear god that sounds cool. I want one.
Yeah -- I wanna know which eleven joker's are risking getting fired for running CS on their workplace's 8-chip enterprise servers...
Bah -- I don't care as long as people are nice to me. So there.
...I'm starting to see that Mark Shuttleworth was right.
Off-topic? What the hell? Jeebus, I thought it was a requirement to have read Neuromancer at least once before being allowed to post in Slashdot...

From what I've heard, it would almost seem like it.
