  1. Manhunt 2 matters not. on Mainstream Coverage of Manhunt 2 · · Score: 2, Insightful

The game title doesn't matter. Could have been a care bears game and the media will find some way of convincing you it is deadly. If it isn't a murder sim, it's soo addictive that you'll forget to eat or sleep for three days and die. If it gets any coverage from the media, you can be sure that it will be something that can kill you.

The problem in question here is not censorship. It's media.

They have free reign to be completely wrong without any adverse reaction from the masses. One of the first news stories I remember was that killer African bees were coming and America was in danger. Never happened. Exploding school buses, nevcer happened. How many looming epidemics that never happened? I would have never guessed SARS killed less than 1% of infected people if it wasn't for South Park. Shooting at police helicopters during Katrina? Nope. Iraq WMDs, nada. Do they tell you what kind of missions shuttle crews are going on? No, but they will replay the challenger explosion and talk about the dangers of foam and heat shielding damage for hours.

I could go on for hours here, but I'm sure you get the point. Media doesn't care if they get anything right, they only care about it scaring you in to staying tuned until after the next commercial break.

    no way to build tension
Well, there is that impending destruction of the galaxy thing going on.

Hadn't really thought about it until I saw Landfall, but there is a good story angle there. As others pointed out, reliving Master Chiefs exploits may be a bit redundant. In the game you come across groups of soldiers that you never really think about why they got there and what happened before you arrived. During the game, they aren't useful to you. But like is shown in Landfall, they were there making it possible for Master Chief to do what he needed to do. I could see a movie capturing their struggles with Master Chief being a point of reference and excuse for the occasional overkill badassery.

Playing the game as Master Chief, you never get that sense of desperation and urgency you get from the ODSTs in Landfall because you are basically invincible. To the basic Marine in the short, things seemed to look much more terrifying. I think it would make for a good movie to go through the Halo storyline from that point of view rather than that of one easily in control of things.

    BTW
I reckon it'd end up on the "aren't soldiers great people" track, which is hard to swallow when we hear every other week about one or two "bad apples" who've been caught raping, pillaging, torturing and murdering.
    Completely retarded, for many reasons.

I don't know, I was pretty impressed with the 2nd and third segments of Landfall. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't quite capture the feel of the game. Which may, in fact, be good for many people. The film was alot grittier than anything you experience in game. But then again, in the game you are a Spartan not an ODST.

BTW, since when could an ODST drive like that? If I was in the back of that warthog in game, we would have hit every one of those walls. Or simply stopped in front of each one for 15 seconds figuring out how to get around it.

I'd imagine that since the entire division made a profit, the news is being spun to look like all products in that division had strong sales, not just Halo (which probably covered losses on consoles and the Zune). That's just the gut opinion talking though.

First of all, I doubt Halo 3 is done moving consoles. As long as Sony fans are left waiting for a Halo killer, there will be converts.

Second, their overall collection of very good games (but not real console movers) is far outpacing Sony. The best game Sony will have before spring 2008 is the Orange Box, which Xbox already has. Their next best game, Oblivion (IMO), Xbox had early as well. Resistance was pretty good, but on Xbox you have Gears Of War beating it out. Sony needs more than one or two good games to catch up. Xbox box has (will have by years end) many solid unanswered games: Dead Rising, Forza, Ace Combat 6, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Saints Row, Perfect Dark Zero, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, etc.

I do think Xbox made a huge mistake in promoting Halo over their overall line-up. A Halo killer will come along eventually. But where their biggest lead over Sony will be is overall line-up (and online service). To their credit, they do have some exclusive RPGs meant to combat FF, but they just don't do it. They might, however, be enough to lure someone that was waiting on that single PS3 game and liked some of Xbox's other titles.

First of all, Jango Fett is the father of all the clones. Boba is a clone of Jango. Second of all, Obi Wan is on the Jedi Counsel. There are millions of clones being ordered in their name mysteriously at a time when Jedi are concerned of a large plot brewing. It would make sense that he, or at least another counsel member, would go investigate. Jango Fett is already wanted by the Jedi for an attempted assassination. So it would also make sense that there would be a confrontation between them. Also, I didn't hear any mention of Jango wanting a clone for the purpose of catching Han Solo. Just that he wanted an pure clone, not modified to be more docile. Which would explain why the clones sucked in comparison.

The whole point of the prequels was to give the backstory to the characters in the original. I don't see how you could logically NOT focus so much on them. Since in the originals, the fate of the universe rested in the hands of a few, why would it not during their backstory?

The original made it a point that the droids R2D2 and 3CPO had a history with Obi Wan, so they made a logical tie in.
