    I live in Grand County. Mose Lake to be exact. Moses Lake is the biggest city in the county and it's not exactly a big city!

    Anyways, I think they have this service rolled out to 1 home and 2 businesses. The upstream and downstream have been capped at miserably low rates.

    I don't have a lot of hope for the future unless things turn wireless. Most of the houses in Grant County are seperated by farm land and there's just no economical way to run fibre out to everyone.

    Why the fuck is this insightful? It's actually the most uniformed, retarded post here. .NET emits pure HTML to the client browser. If the client browser supports ECMA-Script then then it gets richer client-side controls otherwise it's just more roundtrips to the server. There's no such thing as a damn .NET Compliant Browser.

    I disagree. I don't think what they are doing is cool at all. Because what they are doing is defining an infrastructure, and making sure that they control it. This is bad, and should be boo'd.

    Microsoft is in the business of building infrastructure. That's their business... They should be booed?

    The web took off because no one owned the protocol, any one could create an HTTP server, anyone could write the services behind the server and anyone could write a browser, and any user could jump on a browser and start using it.

    That's certainly an interesting view of the history of the web. Maybe it took off because infrastructure companies like Microsoft, Sun, and Netscape did their jobs well.

    Dell 1.7 Ghz from Dell with DVD-CD/RW and 19" .24 dp trinitron monitor, 256 more RAMBUS memory, Geforce 3 from Gateway. The full computer was $2050 shipped and after taxes. Apples doesn't have anything that beats in in cost or performance. Not to take anything away from them on their new flat pannel decision. I think it's great.

    TPC-C is the reference benchmark. Linux has no entry there. http://www.tpc.org/tpcc/results/tpcc_perf_results. asp Also, this is a measure of the Database software speed. DB2 and SQL2000 are quite fast and on any 32-bit x86 OS they would beat the pants off of mySQL or some of those other freebies. Look at the TPC-C benchmark to see the real battle between Microsoft and Sun.

    Dear McKinney ISD,

    I was disappointed to learn of your treatment of the young dissadent Sean Sheeley.

    Simply putting him in an alternative another school will not show the rest of the commune the cost of speaking out. Young Sheeley should be subject to a public caning. His family should be shamed and forced to work in the rice fields over summer break. I think even capital punishment should be talked about.

    I hope the Western media does not learn of this incident and report slander against The Socialist People of McKenney. We must keep our commune for the people.

    Both slashdot and freerepublic have championed free speech in the past. But, with any big forum, there are disruptive people. Appropriate to their idiologies, slashdot solved the problem with clever technology (moderators, points, etc.) and Free Republic solved the problem with hoards of angry conservatives :-) Suing over the matter is actually quite out of character for freepers because they don't like trial lawyers and dislike lawsuits. Anyways, I can't believe that joker pleaded the 5th in a civil suit. WTF is up with that?

    SQL Server is all written by Microsoft. Pre-version 6.5 there was some Sybase code it was based on but what relevance is that? SQL 7 and SQL 2000 are their own breed. See http://www.tpc.org for 3rd party benchmarks.
