Make it separate from the BIOS; but possibly on the same EEPROM chip; it will only load up if you hold down the F12 button (or something) when you boot.
I don't know what I'm going to do if AOL buys out RH.. I use it on all my Linux boxen right now, and once AOL buys it, I won't be able to upgrade RedHat anymore..
I'll have to switch to a different distro.
Think of the administrative cost to reconfigure people's custom apps for a different distro in thousands of companies who won't use AOL based on principle.. or because it just sucks..
The problem is that every patch that Microsoft makes, installs DLLs that breaks something else.
I've worked as a SysAdmin for government before, they usually want to do about 2 weeks to a month of testing on a test machine before they'll actually install it on a production server.
Endianness is the question of looking at the way the CPU stores values.
For example.. the hex number 0x23BC..
on an x86 based system which uses the "little endian" format, it would be stored in memory as BC23, however, on a machine running "big endian" format, it would be stored in memory as 23BC.
There's also the issue of little/big endian down to the bit (rather than the byte).. however, it is a non issue with the current CPU's.
If MS were developping a ".net" client for Linux, they would not need to put all this effort working with Mainsoft to try and do the port. Considering the ".net" is still in development, they would likely be able to bypass all the junk of hacking into the Windows API and just code a parallel one for linux simultaneously.
So because of this, it's probably not likely that's their immidiate plans. I think micros~1 is probably attempting to make Linux look bad after they fail in doing the port.
What's to say that MS won't release their own version of Linux in which most of it is under the GPL, however, the MS Linux distro has non-GPL'ed libraries which would be required for MSOffice f/Linux to run?
I think I remember LOGO.. wasn't that the language with the "TURTLE" and you drew lines or something by commands like 'MOVE FORWARD' or 'MOVE LEFT', etc.?
If you read the specifications page, there is a superscript above "Pixel Resoultion" which is a superscript "1".. At the bottom of the web page you will find a reference to this superscript saying "1 available resolution of 1024 x 768 XGA"
It's nice to know that we have decended from one of the top 7 sluts in history!
It was done in MAY 97!! (MS WAS NOT FIRST!)

Well.. apparently if you take a look at this (Scroll down to 1997 May), you will see that it was done long before at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Canada.
Well I go to Ryerson, and interestingly enough, I have heard that this multi-terrabyte web server isn't currently being put to much use, maybe we can suggest something to faculty... any ideas?

I was walking down the stairs at a subway station with my cell in my left pocket.. While walking down, lady caught the clip on my cell phone case which pulled the phone right out of my pocket.
The phone went ROLLING down the stairs to the bottom. Phone still works perfectly and did not suffer any noticeable damage from that roll down concrete stairs.
What if they called it an OS on a chip?

AOL can get RH for free, it's all GPL'ed.. why not do what Corel tried with Debian and just create their own distro based on RH..
They're not getting guys like Cox, so why pay out the cash for something they've got for free anyway?
I can't wait until 7pm when all the MS servers go down, and companies start making decisions to migrate to *nix based OS's running Apache!
Maybe then MS will decide to put some quality into their work

Hence the proposition of Gibi bytes and Mebi bytes
bi for binary..
Why not just multiplex and time the addressing pins like they do in RAM?
Various encoding methods actually use transitions to encode either 0's or 1's.. So it may not necessarily save power with more 0's..
Apparently you can change this "startup" page through the IEAK (Internet Explorer Administration Kit)...
It appears that they use it to check for updates of IE before you go to your 'home page'.. it looks like it could be used for stats as well.

has anybody directed you away from 'snotmail' in the process?

How wound a computer be able to detect whether it's an answering machine on the other line or a human?
Would it be possible to nab them by somehow tricking their machine into thinking that you're an answering machine rather than a real human?

Don't ask why.. but I just happened to be reading over MS Visual C++ license agreement yesterday.
They happened to mention almost the identical thing, except instead of saying "executable format" they use the term "object format".
I found it strange too.. interesting that it's posted on Slashdot the day after I read something almost identical.
I'd actually like to add that it was a Computer drive.. not a standalone thing.
Also.. I'm in Canada (if anyone cares)
My University has had a DVD-R drive for months now too. (It's disks are readable on any standard DVD player).
Does this case not relate to a recently set precedent whereas ISP's are no longer accountable for their user's content on their site?
