You know. I was thinking. If he couldn't get access to write to any other device (such as USB, Firewire, or even the disk drive), he probably could have simplified the task by directly wiring the board's piezo output to his sound card's line in, thereby eliminating noise. Alternatively, he could have wired it to some other input device.
Thanks. I have the exact same HDTV PVR box (albeit with a 46" Sony Projection HDTV), I was considering dishing out $50+ for the HDMI cable, but wasn't sure if its worth it. I guess its not.
I was reading that there are 2 quality-levels of HDMI cable, all the specs say is that the more expensive one handles higher resolution video (but doesn't say a resolution). Any idea about this?
The RSS plugin for Trillian has been doing this for years. It only pops something up when there's a new piece of news (and appears as a different colour in the list for the first minute of it being 'new').
Where I did my undergrad, they decided one day to replace all the 'ball mice' with optical mice to prevent the mouse balls from going missing or being stolen. They made the bad choice of going with MS mice. 2 Days later, half the mice in the room didn't work because they were overheating!
Painful if you want to switch from channel 1 to channel 74
Use the down button:) its only a single channel away.
(bah, mod me down if you want, the parent could have been more specific and said "painful if you want to quickly switch between far-away channels")
I have an HDTV and use Video on Demand, hardly close to HDTV quality, and not even close to DVD quality. The system as is requires a lot of bandwidth as you could have a million customers all wanting to watch 20 different shows, and each at a different spot. I think the quality may even be lower than regular digital TV.
For now, I generally stick to watching movies on the HDTV channels or on DVD. Those of you who have seen HDTV will vouch that there is a huge difference between DVD and HDTV quality picture.
(Has anyone actually tested those new DVD players that upsample the video to 1080i? Does that really improve the picture quality over the TV doing its own internal upsampling?)
If the crater does provide a natural, wind-driven car wash then Opportunity's days as a clean machine could be at an end. On 12 December, it drove out of the crater to explore the terrain beyond. "If in three or four months Opportunity is still operating and hasn't had another power boost that would suggest the crater was the key," Erickson says.
At least assuming that the crater is the martian car wash.
If this is the case, the rover can always go back to the crater for a wash and recharge, full service station.
You know, I've always wondered why there are car washes at gas stations. The gas stations actually evolved from the car washes. The rover goes to clean itself and gets 'recharged' in the process.
Not necessarily, you can write on the label side, as long as you don't go too deep into that side. No reason why writing with a laser would hurt any more, as long as it doesn't burn too deep.
I think the CD format requires the reflective layer be a certain distance from the laser.
(For those who don't know, contrary to popular belief, the reflective layer is actually on the side we write on with markers, pens, etc. Not the face-down side, and not in the middle; so don't worry so much about scratching the side that goes face in the drive, you should be more worried about scratching the side that has the label)
Putting another layer into CD's would require another ~2mm of plastic on the other side, making CDs much thicker and no longer fitting the CD standard.
(everybody's used to them being safe as phone lines)
Actually, phone lines can give you quite a shock if you touch them while a phone is ringing. (I'm not sure on current, but) the ring signal is given by a total potential difference of 96V across the 2 wires (+48 and -48). I believe regular usage signal is 24V; but I'm not sure on this, because I did an experiment and turned a phone into a portable tone generator by connecting a 9V battery to where the RJ11 plugs in.
Is that link that says 'here' to microsoft.com correct? It points to something for Windows NT4.0 w/SP4

Try it with DVD's, you may get closer to 500GB and 40 pounds.
Is this slight difference worth the added cost of the cable? (Keep in mind, HDMI cables are more expensive than DVI - 2x to 4x the cost).

You won't see any video improvement between HDMI and DVI as its the same protocol.
What I've been wondering for a while is if HDMI (or DVI) will give me any improvement over component video cables for HiDef 1080i TV.
Anyone know?

Why's this moderated as "Funny"? It's a true story!
But in Canada, it is my understanding that P2P is legal, as long as you don't publically "advertise" free music. Can anyone clarify?

Isn't that what Novell or SCO did with DR-DOS, to sue Microsoft for not allowing DR-DOS to run Windows 3.x?
Has anyone tried creating 6 e-mail accounts for you and your 5 'friends'?
I have seen plenty of brand new floppies with data written to them sit on shelves for a year and not be readable anymore.
Actually, the parent post is correct wrt the # of pixels, its not exactly telling the whole story.
DVD is 480p 720x480 progressive scan.
Most HDTV's are only capable of 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced); although there is a 1080p standard, I have yet to see TVs supporting it.
So actually the calculation should be
720x480 vs 1920x1080/2 (for 2 scans per image), which is actually 3 times the # of pixels per second.

It works over the ICQ and AIM protocols and called "SecureIM". It may work over Y! as well.. I can't recall.
Doesn't frost imply water? (or some other type of liquid that gets frozen?)

Good thing this is an EVEN number. Otherwise, I might be a little concerned.
