You're absolutely correct when talking about management versus engineering. Management wins, and so does shiny. Just look at the Nexus One. It's THE Google phone, but you get terrible customer support.
But besides that, your concept of reality is skewed.
I've been a customer of AT&T since the "AT&T wireless" days (pre AT&T, pre "cingular", etc.) and I can count the number of dropped calls on one hand. I currently have an original iPhone, jailbroken/unlocked, on a very old AT&T Wireless account. $30/month for a regional plan = awesome (as is having one device to surf the web where I can get Wifi, play games, listen to music, and make phone calls.)
Your wireless account has nothing to do with network quality. Secondly, you have illegally voided your contract, ruling you out from any legitimate apples to apples comparison.
Living in New England, I also haven't heard many complaints from 3G iPhone users. Seems to be mostly NYC where people are screaming (yes kids, NY and NYC are not "New England.")
So you're saying that between New England and NYC, your user report has been that more people that you have seen have been complaining in NYC than New England. Again, not a great statistical analysis which networks truly need.
I've personally had issues between the 3G and EDGE call drops, often getting 5 calls a day dropped in Atlanta, GA. Leaving it on EDGE mode, I waited a year until I was in San Jose, CA. There I replaced my iPhone (even after my warranty expired, no strings attached) and haven't had issues with 3G since.
It just so happened those "bunch" of people were the ones that launched the balloons and just all happened to be eating at Olive Garden afterwards....:)
I love the argument of "hurting the eyelines of the cities". Yeah, now that you can see the mountains right next to your city, instead of just hazy smog, you actually have something to complain about. Me? I think those wind turbines are sexy as hell and show progress in this day and age. Progress is power. Well done gapagos, well done.
Seriously, when will we realize that the best User Interface is a 3D environment individuals can navigate as easily as the world around us. Just make a quake, darkforces, or HL mod, pull in dynamic data that any web interface can provide, and have the guns change variables in a fun interactive way. Fine fine, use more recent games or engines, but you get my point?
I believe that's the point. Courts are fed up with this. There needs to be a new system for IPR, this is just their way of saying "You deal with it, you caused it".
Sure, it makes sense. Make it such a PR issue that everyone and their grandmother is concerned with security so that they use Tor. It's simply an arms race.
You're taking the comic literally. It happens for higher ups that are suppose to listen and care as well. It's a rant about government and the entire process in general.
I think the point of his argument is they don't listen. That by proving something wrong with their system doesn't fix their system, it gets you arrested (or without batteries to use a laptop on airlines).
Sucks for those new mac owners, without removable batteries.
I'd like to see sources on your markup price comparison. It's an interesting topic. But if you buy a game at Target for $50 on a 50% markup, then that means that the publisher sees 33$, not 25$. 25-50$ is a 100% markup.
Yeah, but that's Windows 7 Professional, not Ultimate.
Did you actually get a CD mailed to you? Last I checked they still charge a small fee for burning, mailing, and all the paperwork trouble for them. I know they let you download it for free... See the above parents for arguments about all that.
I think the correct term is "desktop replacement". It's a really nice job, but seriously? Sometimes things were not meant to be ported. What's the use of 1080p on a 17" screen? Somehow "stereo" just wasn't what the TruHD format had in mind...
You're the first person to address the real issue he's talking about and not the simple example of leaving a computer unlocked.
Think of a remote connection to Remote Desktop for Windows. When does the server know when to sever the connection? Is it after some time delay of minimal activity? If it's left authenticated for time X, and the ability for the traffic to be hijacked is Y, are X and Y proportional?
It's not as simple as I walk away from a physical machine anymore. My favorite is when an application doesn't close when you press the X in windows (upper right) or OS X (upper left). It's connections are still left open, leaving authentication on opening the application worthless.
How does this education in a company differ from the home? Payment? Fire them if they're not secure? They've tried that, it's called government. We all see how well thatworks out.
If you want to be 100% secure, higher smart people and shut off your internet pipe.
Update, 9/20/2009: Other researchers have recently discovered a vulnerability in our original Vanish research prototype. Their work shows that the Vuze DHT on which we built the original prototype did not provide sufficient security properties, and that there are therefore attacks that can capture Vanish keys.
We released a revised prototype on September 20, 2009. This revised prototype, which distributes keys across both the Vuze DHT and OpenDHT, invalidates this attack. In addition, we are working to further strengthen Vanish from two angles: (1) by hardening the underlying DHT for Vanish-like purposes and (2) by modifying applications to make more intelligent use of DHTs. Please see our new technical report for additional information about the currently known attacks and our defenses.
Due to the complexity of the systems we are relying upon, we would like to strengthen our advice that users should be cautious if they want to use Vanish. At this point, Vanish should only be used for experimental purposes. We do encourage researchers, however, to analyze it and improve upon it.
About time someone in government considers education as important as military "defense" and scientific breakthroughs.

How can you have business without politics?
It just so happened those "bunch" of people were the ones that launched the balloons and just all happened to be eating at Olive Garden afterwards.... :)
Irony posters (humans) have a slow response time. Better to cache than not receive.
And here I was going to make a snide comment about FOX news, but you just went for all of media. Well played good sir, well played.
Chicago is notorious for mob crimes. Only makes logic hollywood sense to start big brother there, where the FBI was focused in the 1920s...
He just want to get people riled up and attract as much attention to himself as possible.
That's his job. That's all that FOX news does. That's what most "news media" does these days. Sadly, they use their skills at the detriment to us all.

they're waiting for a reason. Tell me the target market for "it's just awesome." and "why not?"
Until we see an intergalactic threat, I doubt we'll see the kind of R&D needed to really accomplish this.

Yeah, because proving a court's rulings inconsistent is the best way to win in the real world. See here for another example.

Maybe they should have mimicked hornets instead of yellow jackets...
Check out the 2nd video on TFA. It takes 20 seconds for a CT Scan to process the body!
Sure you need some high end equipment, but to not disturb the body and do something extremely close to a full autopsy? A master card says, priceless.
I wonder if this counts as desecration of the body? Think Orthodox Judaism or Islamic Funerals, which need to take place ASAP.
Collins said, 'I found a nice lawyer guy at Warners, very apologetic, promised to get it sorted, but all these months later it isn't.'
It appears that MySpace wasn't even contacted...

Now 99.999%? That's a different story.
