    Leaving the idea of God out of it, as it will just lead to circular logic.
    Many of the older religions. Come from observing a world where there are things that cannot be explained, and attempt to make sense of them.
    Radical upper official in the Egyptian Government, realizes he is adopted from a slave blood line and decides to free his people. He got lucky by not killing everyone in the attempt, comes up with some rules to follow to help them not kill themselves further, There is the start of a religion.
    An unremarkable poor boy born in Bethlehem. Stirred up some trouble for the roman empire, and as well whistled blown corruption within his own people, gained a lot of following, and found his philosophy enlightening. There start a new religion.

    Now these have stories about super natural abilities given to these people, some made up, others exaggerated, some the same as your average carnival magician, some can be shown possible modern science, and some with pure luck. That usually reinforces the idea of a supreme being giving the religion its blessings.

    The issue that really should be brought up, debating the science vs. non-science it talking to a deaf ear...
    However I think the debate should go more towards the direction.
    These Major Christian churches, do not have an issue on evolution, and do not support teaching creationism in Science Classes. So why are you pushing your little minority sect of Christianity on the rest of the population.
    If you don't want separation of church and state, then realize your particular sect doesn't coincide with the general belief of the country.

    Oddly enough most members don't realize that their church actually supports real science.

    Perhaps not for bones, but you can make custom sized casts, that are lighter than plaster. Custom sized tools for surgery. Heck just be able to have a supply of medical equipment in storage so you don't need a huge inventory, allowing smaller surgical areas.

    I don't see a WWIII senerio with North Korea. If they actually get able to make a nuke and deploy it. They will probably hit Sourth Korea which is bad. However the SC and its mutual defense treaties will just kill them even with conventional warfare, because they will not be able to make more nuke and deploy them soon after that.

    China is the wild card... However I don't seem them getting too involved with this if the attack was unprovoked.

    I am fine with cloning. Now heck even for food. Meat is meat. Still I think it is cheaper to take a male pig and a female pig and just raise them the old way and get just as good results for cheaper.

    If you have issues with cloning then you probably should have issues with identical twins.

    Get off you Pot Smoking Democrats are always right and republicans are always wrong close mindedness.

    The previous Space exploration was a direct cause from WWII rocketry, mostly used to try to bomb the US.
    Computers made were used to calculate projectile trajectories.
    GPS was used to track and guide troops.
    The Internet/Arpanet was used as a network that could withstand a nuclear attack.
    Then we have Jet aircraft...
    A ton of stuff that we use daily is from original military application.
    The military pays the R&D bills, and if you are a scientist you should jump right on that. And sleep soundly knowing that you improving science for the future generation.

    Get off the 1960's hippy nonsense of the Military wants to destroy the world, it is the civilian government who does that, the military just makes sure if they are told to they do it the most effective way possible.

    What I expect is closer to the truth.
    Those Republican run districts are also districts that have a lower population/density (Republican tend to flourish in more rural areas. Where there is less need for government services except for farm subsidies which most republicans push). Meaning having a DMV office in such an area is expensive to maintain. Because you still need a minimum staff and building costs. So those DMV could be closed to save money, meaning a smaller portion of the population will be inconvenienced a bit more, but saved tax payer money.

    I think the real issue now is digging to figure out what level involvement That Gov. Chris Christie had in this.

    Being that this isn't a normal process of closing lanes for a study, you may expect some people, stopping and saying what why and perhaps ask for higher authority on if this is really what they want to do.

    Now could Christie be responsible? Maybe, maybe not. It is not too hard to think some political suck ups on his team, more then happy to do the Dirty Work, even if he never really wanted it, and took his off handed comment as a means to be ambitious and push. Being if it actually worked to his advantage he would get the praises.

    That said, Christie may have ordered the closings and tried hard to cover his tracks. However I don't see this as too possible, just because closing the bridge, a border crossing from NY to his own state, it would cause people to be more angry at the Governor then some unknown Mayer.

    But these are intercontinental missiles.
    Much of the R&D of these new designs can be used by the space agencies.
    a Mach 10 missile that can launch from the US and hit any where in the world in minutes... Could mean a faster way to launch rockets into space and achieve faster space speeds, meaning you could take a year off from the trip to Mars.

    R&D is a good thing, even if its intentions are not noble, but we expand our knowledge, and hopefully the good uses will outweigh the bad uses in time.

    Yes, because the quality of the person is based on their manners at the movies.

    After RTFA there seems to be some confusion about the theater actually allowing texting.

    Still You don't shoot a person, you go the the manager and ask them to be removed. Or better yet, as Texting in the movie really isn't that distracting, ignore it, and try in enjoy yourself.

    Back in the 1980's there was much more interest towards programming.
    It was a topic taught in Elementary Schools, the general conception was the future of computing is where everyone will program the computer to their needs, they never really though about having a large supply of existing application to pick and choose from.

    I am not surprised about this fact, it if people are to read code like any other language it would be considered as silly showing wrong code, as it is for an actor to talk in a garbled tongue and pretend to be a french man.

    However things have changed, most people don't read code, and the code they show on the screens are just to make it look complicated, and usually only show for a few seconds, too short for even good coders to go back and say oh this code does this. Usually in that period of time, I may be able to get the language, they are using, or the OS. But for the most part I turn myself off and focus on the plot, not the detail on what is on the screen.

    All fine and good, until you go to your next platform.
    Java is nice in although your UI get kinda antiquated, the program will run on Windows, Linux, OS X and some other. So if you have a major upgrade to your OS and it still supports Java, chances are your App will still run.
    Unlike say going from Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit. Where you old app written back for Windows 98 will no longer run.

    So what can you program in that those execs will give you a green light for? I mean they really don't make good decisions off of their choices. They really just pick what they think they like.

    PHP/Python/Ruby etc... It is those nasty open source freeware programs that may be out of style in a few year, we don't want to use those. (and they don't seem to have those mythical enterprise features that they want, but yet never tell us what they are)
    C/C++ Too cumbersome to code in, doesn't allow for Rapid Development
    C#/VB.NET Well they are fine for little apps, we want something a little more heavy duty. Sometimes you will get a better debate about needing a more scailable servers then what Microsoft can provide.
    COBOL/FORTRAN/FoxPro etc... These old languages.

    Unfortunately Java, even with its security problems is seen as the best enterprise choice, because Companies thinks for some ungodly stupid reason that Enterprise software is some how good.

    Umm... I don't think Boycott is what you think it is.
    You really don't need to be justified to boycott a product/company. You can do it whenever you really want.

    Besides no matter how bad Oracle gets, if your Boss says use this Oracle product or your fired, then you will probably be a little less outraged.

    Now this if proven true in court, could be justifiable for Oracle workers to unionize and strike.

    I have no issues with Windows 8, as I have a laptop with a touch screen on it, and it makes it rather nice to use after I got use to it... However the PC market, is moving away from what Microsoft can provide.
    Personal Computing is going to the smart phones and tablets. We have Android and iOS which are specialized for this. Windows is trying to be a compromise between the two, normally this isn't too bad, however PC makers are not really jumping on the bandwagon with touch displays as fast as Microsoft though. Why because PC manufacturers are not selling like they use to, because average Joe home user doesn't need one anymore.

    Now the PC is becoming a workstation for professionals. That means we need an OS built for this new needs. GNU/Linux UI's do have some advantage in this, however there is still too much Server OS, in its design. Windows has too much Personal Computer. We need an OS that is designed for modern usages, where it is about productivity and performance, and away from cute and friendly.

    Well lets look at an other way.

    Person who does malicious (It is wrong, they knew it was wrong, that choose to do the wrong) attacks, brings harm to society, and if they get off too easy they will just keep doing it again.

    Person who is negligent (It was wrong, they didn't really think about), brings harm to society, however often they will learn their lesson with a smaller punishment, and be more productive in the future.

    You must not have seen the flame wars about religion from atheists. They speak in as much zeal and conviction as any other religious zealot.
    The main issue that prevents major atrocities caused by atheist, is that they are still a minority, with converts going in and out all the time. As well as the religious zealots have been for centuries calling them the Bad Guys anyways. So they need to prove to society that they aren't as evil as society says. After that hapends they will become just as horrible as the rest of the human race.

    You will only know if you are on the wrong side of history after it has happened.
    Things change that causes history and views to change. Some things that we see as common today will be abhorrent, while things that our current set of morals seem taboo will be common and well accepted.

    Eugenics was popular back at the turn of last century, it wasn't seemed as a tyrannical action, but the betterment of man kind... However over time people realized it is preventing free will. And Hitler is probably the cause, as the Nazi took this idea to the extreme. If it wen't for an evil group of people, showing how bad it could get, eugenics may still be popular today. Reducing over population, cutting down on poverty, and many illnesses. Our culture would be conditioned as to not see this as a violation of our rights, as it is for the greater good.
    However what things do we do today for the greater good will be seen as horrible in the future? Abortion? Death Penalty? Drugs for ADHD? FOSS?
    One major screw-up, or success could change the public perception.
