  2. I think for a lot of people who feel in general powerless find some comfort that they were able to make actions positive or negative that got some notice. "I was able to stop the Airport alone with my skills" probably gives the person a false sense of empowerment.
It is a lot like graffiti from kids, they just like seeing a mark, that everyone sees and knows, "I was the one that put it there"

The average voting American citizen has the equivalent of the 8th grade education. (they may have a higher degree in actuality, but after 8th grade, most students start to diverge and focus on their specialties).

So think about your political knowledge back in 8th grade, you have a general idea on how the US government power is distributed, what the elected officials in general do. But most of your view on politics is based on your Family, friends, church and neighbors.
Myself I grew up near a blue state capital (most of my friends and neighbors where State Employees and very Democrat), but my family is very republican. So I grew up with conflicting messages, probably why I am a moderate today, because I can understand the points made and realize the other side isn't the evil monster as partisans tend to express.

So what did the Russians hackers do that meddled in the elections? Realizing the general naivete of the population, they were able to find what topic they feel strongly about (not overly political), find a group of people with an opposing idea. Befriend both sides and radicalize them, so topics like police shooting unarmed minorities, because they assume they are dangerous because of their looks, becomes political. And they are painted as only caring for the minority and not the general population. While the other side is painted as racist.

So now we have Hillary Clinton who was a public servant vs Donald Trump, who was a boastful personality. Your Russian Friends who are now influencing you and your feelings and pushing your view on topics to the extreme, have now either turned you in a loud mouth radical, or seeing the other side (mainly Clinton) as the enemy.

I heard a lot of Trump Voters who voted for him, not because they liked Trump, but because they were afraid of Clinton, because to them the Clinton Supporters seemed like crazed LiBeRaLs who wanted to bankrupt the country with all their welfare, and because of e-Mails which in the grand scheme of things was just stupid. While Trump with Russian Facebook influence was moderated down, and outraged was calmed, to well he will change after becoming president.

If the Russian Trolls were saying they were Russians pushing a political agenda in America it wouldn't be so bad, as people would take it as such. But they pretend to be peoples friends, and are US Citizens like them. Just to influence the elections and the government.

  5. I think the Copyright time should be more reasonable amount of time (under 50 years) But, especially today content can so easily be copied exactly without any loss of quality. Yet people who spend Weeks, Months, Years of their lives not getting paid to make the work, in hopes it can get published and finally get paid, is a large risk on their part. Then to have it finally get popular but being published and sold by the company without paying you back, because there isn't any copyright.

Copyrights are a good thing, however as times change the law, fair use classification, penalties, and enforcement needs to be better managed.
As it is nearly impossible to not commit copyright violation today, and the fines are still based on people who had enough money to buy a printing press and make book copies. Vs tools that even in people in poverty have at hand.

  6. The other problem is that after 96 years (because these Copyrights expire in 2019) that nearly 5 generations have passed. So assuming you were just splitting it with your family, with each generation having 2 kids on average you will be splitting the royalties 16 ways, with media which is old and not so popular anymore. So it just gets more complex then what the IP is valued. Sure most of this stuff is actually owned by the company, but still the cost of enforcing and protecting it will get to a point it is no longer worth it.

  7. I think the congress has bigger fish to fry then copyright expansion. Being that 96 year old copyright works will be released.
Even for the media companies, these 90+ year IP that they own, pails to the threat that streaming and the internet has. Being that the populations average Nostalgia age starts at around 8-21 where new media heavily influences their place in society. There are very few people alive who hold a special place in their heart for these works, who would pay for them anyways. Putting them in the public domain, is probably best for the company, as it is probably more expensive to hold on and protect the IP then it is to let it go.

I have a Mortgage on my house, over time my house is worth more then the cost of mortgage. So if I sell the house, I get all my money back plus extra. However I need the Mortgage because I didn't have the money to pay for it upfront. So I am currently living in a budget defecate, however I am better off from it, then if I were paying rent.

Now what I fear is a lot of the US Defecate spending is not going to net benefit growth. Such as the latest round of Tax Cuts, without spending cuts. The Extra Money in everyone paycheck may not drive the economy up to pay for its losses, combined with cutting services that may be needed for the next recession.

Either you have a first come first serve, or a rule that you cannot take the same days off every week. Or make sure there is enough coverage every day, by other means.

A student asked me if I had a calculator.
Thinking that he wanted a TI-96 Graphing calculator (because many of the math classes were centered around that calculator) I had to tell me I didn't have one.
He was a bit perplex and a bit desperate, because it will take him a lot longer to work out his assignment.
I asked him what he needed a calculator for.
"You know, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and diving"
I then asked why didn't he use the calculator app on the PC.
    He didn't know about that.
So I showed him the app. which blew his mind.
Also on a side note, he was working an assignment on an Application Called Maple. Which is a rather advance Math application where it could just as easily handle the simple math problems by typing the formula into the command line and hitting enter.
So I showed him that too, but that just pushed him over the edge.

However he isn't wrong, the US has been complacent in investing into itself. Defecate spending isn't a bad thing, if the money is being put into US services that that will pay for it self later on. However our taxes go mostly to the Military first, and what is left will get the crumbs. This creates a lot of holes in our safety net. This will prevent people from trying to take a risk and start a new business, get up and move to a different state or city to get a new job, being afraid to switch jobs even ones you hate, because you need the medical insurance.

The conservative faction of the US calls such services as un-american, because that is what the Communist do. However a Democratic Republic with a Capitalist economy can have these support services as well too. The Communist also drink Vodka, so do Capitalist.

Being integrated in the OS, meant the browsers components started up when you booted the OS, and took less foot print, because it was used for other components, (such as the file browser). Active X was faster then Java Applets, because they only ran on Windows so it was just running the application, with the browser replacing window frame.

Back when PCs were just breaching 200mhz, and 16megabytes of RAM was considered a common amount. Waiting about a minute to load up a browser was common. Did anyone seem to get this was from a Microsoft Intern who was complaining about this?
Unless Intern now means something different today. But usually the Intern is the college student who is doing work that the Jr. Developers pawn off on them because the work is too humdrum for them.

I expect what was happening was Google You Tube service supported a feature, that wasn't in Edge. So someone task the Intern to put that fix into the code to make it work, probably due to it being a simple fix and most likely from an oversight or a misinterpretation on how the implementation of the standard suppose to work. However being an Intern, it probably took him more work and effort then he expected because it was more complex then most college programming assignments, and to hear that Google has it working fine for Chome, came up with perception that Google Did this feature to break Edge.

As I stated in the earlier post on this topic, Microsoft IE/Edge team isn't use having to fix their browser due to its past dominance in the field, where they implement the standards their own way, and the developers had to write their code to work on the browser despite what the standards were. Being that Microsoft lost so much ground in the Browser dominance they are probably a bit bitter that they are playing second fiddle to Google and under pressure that they are no longer #1

We have these problems that shouldn't be ignored, however people don't want to hear about the side effects that can happen from their view. However we need to fully understand these complex problems to help work out a solution. I doubt for problems so large and complex there are going to be many Win-Win solutions. However we can get a Win and a mitigated lost where the value of the win is greater then the lost. But we can't just discredit the people who will be effected by such a solution.
Lets say we switch for our morning coffee Styrofoam cup, to a paper cup, much greener solution, but the coffee cools down quicker, and it is hot to hold the cup. So lets add that corrugated ring to make the cup easier to hold. We still get a greener solution, and we lost a cup that will keep coffee hotter for longer, but at least we solved the too hot to hold. So it is a mitigated lost, also being that most people will drink their coffee before it gets too cold anyways and the difference between the two will effect a smaller number of people. It isn't a Win-Win but we looked at the solutions and found that there were flaws, some being more serious then others, so we fixed what we can to accommodate the losses, and we end up with a net benefit solution.
