The problem was it got way too political. Popular links were all about these crazy "Tea Party Proportion" anti President Bush Links. This attracted the general dumb masses who will follow or reject the idea based squarely on the political party the presents it.
My father is like this. I love him dearly however we have different approached to politics... I remember in the Mid-1990's my father was saying to me... The Problem with health care is that we need to incorporate a systems like we have to cars in New York State. Everyone needs to mandated to have Health Insurance, This way we can reduce the cost as everyone will be insured. The people who say they don't want to join in, well they have to or pay a fine. (For this was the Republican Plan of the time, the Democrats opposed this as policy based on lobbying from the big health insurance companies) Now almost 20 years later. The democrats propose and pass that plan. But because it was the democrats who did it, his views are dead against it. Using every argument that he rejected 20 years ago. Now Dig attracted the same type of people only it was for the liberals. And Liberals are actually just as bad, When the next Republican president wins, we will see Leftist radical behavior worse then the Tea Party. When they get a democratic president after that they the Right wing will become even more nuts... Unless we find a way to fix this...
This is the part I am having a hard time grasping. We are replacing "Pay Phones" with "Free Wi-Fi"
Now back in the days Pay Phones were popular as you put a quarter in and you can talk, people didn't have Cell Phones, however they had Home Phones which were cheaper then using Pay Phones... Pay Phones were good money, and people used them not to save money, but because they were convenient. Cell Phones are more convenient so they replaced Pay Phones. Now we are getting Free Wi-Fi? What is going to stop people and business from using the public Wi-Fi vs getting their own? Do you really want everyone in 100 meters to be using the same Wi-Fi? Where nearby homes and offices will be using it all the time too.
Or you could let Apple know, keep it quite for a reasonable amount of time before you broadcast it. You know give them time to fix the problem, without letting everyone know to exasperate the problem, so Apple is forced to do a quick fix, where they could have done a better fix to the problem.
What this guy is doing is Showboating to show how cool he is, without any concern about the people general security.
But we want Microsoft to be EVIL and Blundering. As we giggle in glee of all of Microsoft Mistakes knowing these are mistakes of Pure Evil. While we use our own Pure OS, which by the nature of the fact that we chose to run it, is Good and infallible (unless it in some ways have been corrupted), but would be quickly purified by the forces of good. While the same problem by Microsoft is part of a devious plot to keep its corruption to an all time high.
After every bug in my project you post a press release, discrediting the person who found the bug as some subversive agent, and explaining its uses of the bug in a positive light.
After the press release is done, I like to go into a dark room with a rocking chair, plug my ears and go LA LA LA really loudly until someone else says there is an other bug.
It is increasing difficult to do when we live in a world in order us to survive we need to work between the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm and a healthy sleep time of 10:00 pm - 6:00 am Where from 6:00 am - 8:00 am we need time to prepare and travel to work and returning from work and finish dinner at around 7:00 pm leaving us 3 hours. of time a day to actually do something towards the betterment of man kind.
Back in them olden day. We didn't have woman rights. They were expected to get married have kids, and do what the husband said. While not trying to sound like a male pig. This old way didn't have the same problems we have today.
There was always someone around to offer their time in non-profitable jobs. Watching someones kids, sure that is easy, need help with something you have a hand. In essence 1/2 of the population was in a position where they can perform charity (or just helping out others) They wouldn't normally file for diverse, because they are dependent on each other. So in an area where the Father is around, and so is the mother, and the Father brings in the money, while the Mother supports the family and community with her time.
America and Japan, are two very different countries, with a much different culture. While we have similarities, there are also big differences.
For example back when I was a Kid, in Boy Scouts I was Hiking in New Mexico (Philmont a big Boy Scout Camp, where people come from around the world) There was a Japanese Troop that was taking a similar route that we had, and we met up from time to time. At the Trading Posts there was what was called a Swap Box. Where after we get our Rations of food (usually for 2 or 3 days) we can go threw them, drop food we didn't like, and pickup food that we did like. We actually loved it when the Japanese troop was there the same day. They would trade Oat Meal Packets which we really liked, with some energy bars we found to be disgusting. Because Americans Like Sweet food more then Japanese do.
Ok you got a few of the "Door Knocker Religions", out there who will give you a hard time, they will also give you hard time if you don't follow the same religion they do, even if you are still a religious person... These Religions are not the majority.
A Pedophile is a person who had done an action. A religion is a group of people with a belief. Often Pedophiles are people with a mental illness, they don't do it because they think it is the right thing to do, but because there is something wrong with them.
Actually if you want to help your filter even better you should actually recruit Pedophiles (Who have the problem, but want to help block the damage) to help find ways to block sites.
Break Even doesn't equal sum(part) Break Even = Sum(Parts)+(Labor Rate+Benifits)/(Number of units)+(Total R&D costs)/Projected Unit sales+(Facility Costs)...
At $151.75 of parts and selling for 199 actually shows a really good work flow process.
Back during 1990's.COM boom a lot of companies didn't really understand the full cost on how to run a business, The consumers got flooded with a lot of inexpensive stuff (Which seems good) but then the companies shortly went out of business. Leaving us with cheap products that have no future. Or services that we enjoyed that went away, or have quickly gotten very expensive.
The problem with US trains for passengers is the size of the US and the population density. That means a lot of people want to get to point B but point B may be very disperse. I take Amtrak to get to Boston or NYC from Albany. Because these big cities have a robust internal mass transit system. If I lived in Boston and took the train to Albany. (the train station is actually across the hudson river in Rensselaer. ) I would need to find some way to get around. Rent a car or take a bus. Because of this I might as well drive up.
We tried to out law alcohol in the 1920's because it was bad for you. However it was to ingrained in our culture. We are putting more restrictions and tax levies on tobacco. We are trying to get people to quit.
So the argument that pot is no worse then smoking or drinking, or that it is less harmful. Isn't much of an excuse to legalize it. We have been trying to illegalize tobacco and alcohol for a while.
The ISP wanted to offer parental controls (You know, offering something like Dans Guardian as a service), they are trying to make their product useful, so they are asking a bunch of different groups, for feedback.
Religious groups, were invited, they didn't barge in. When you are making a tool for parental controls, you need a good diversity of ideas so you can make good decisions.
Stop Hating Religions because you just don't follow them.
If you do everything your selfs. you often get in the issue where you find behind other newer technology. You have a product that does what you want it to do. Vs. a product that does what you want it to do an more... So it urges you to add that little extra to do the little more.
You see a lot of this mindset on Slashdot a lot of the time. Why would I ever need such a device my Old device works fine... After they get the device they find that those extra features actually become useful, and are unwilling to go back.
I actually think that is the case. Blackberry had 2 things going for it. 1. A really good keyboard. I never owned a Blackberry, however I was handed on a after I had an iPhone, and I found that keyboard was really nice to use... Better then other phones with a physical keyboard, or good touch screen keyboard....
2. A secure method of sending emails and other messages.
Now #2 became more of a liability then an asset, because these portable computers that happen to have phone features, supported standard secure ways to transfer data. And you could choose Wi-Fi or your Data Plan. Then what really hurt was the random Outages at RIM that left customers messageless.
For #1 They still have a good keyboard... They started to push phones without it, and failed (Because not getting a keyboard is a step back). And the phones with it, caused you to have less screen real estate making it harder to make mobile sites that work for iPhone and Blackberry. While we loved the keyboard, we found that we read more then what we typed. Having a good keyboard that takes up half your phone, isn't an efficient use of the device.
That limitation isn't normally you key bottle neck in typing. Well yes it is technically, but you are assuming that we type a maximum speed all the time.
However we are more limited in our ability to process the thought. The Double letters doesn't really reduce our speed down too much, and if we do type too fast where that is an issue. We actually get the Computer version of jamming hammers, of jsut wriittng to fsat and yoru letters jstu dotn coem out in order. We actually tend to space ourselves a bit about the same length as doing a double letter just so all our letters come out in order.
21.0.1180.15 beta-m for me... I am even trying the Beta version, I just upgrade a minute ago too...
The difference between Google and Firefox. Is that Google was designed in an environment that correctly supports this version number. There is no In your face, the new version is out. They are spots for very minor patch levels.
What Firefox did was lame, they just kinda blindly copied what Google did because they thought it was cool. Now people don't know how far behind they are in versions, because every minor fix is a major version number.
However, the problem was as people learned how to use QWERTY keyboards, their typing speed increased to a point where it doesn't matter how the keys are located. Typing speed remains nearly unaffected, just as long as people know where the keys are.
For a successful consumer device. 1. It needs to be easy to use. Making a program that is easy to use, isn't a technical challenge it is understanding the person and how they will use the product. It is very humbling being on a team making a user friendly product. Because you don't always get your way, and the Tech people don't have much to say. Most Open Source projects don't have the end user interaction to tell you know your idea is completely idiotic, just do it this simple way. Secondly the GNU Model of making a living off of free software doesn't work well with Easy to use software. If it is very easy to use, you are not going to charge for consulting fees.
2. The product needs to be reliable. Open Source Developers make a lot of Rock solid applications. However the Open Nature is to give them more access then less, it is better to have them make a mistake then preventing them excelling. However in a world of Viral Reviews, where you can have someone who has abused the product then rant on how bad it was after he had abused the product, go viral and prevent you from selling an actually good product, you can't allow easy alterations. People are actually smart, however most are inexperienced. As a kid I had to rebuild my OS and all my apps every month or so, because I would mess with settings until the OS became unusable, or just got to a state of no return. For a device such as a Table or a Phone, where you are selling them cheap, and one idiot can make your product look like it was designed by a bunch of monkeys. You need to be sure everything is locked down.
3. Consumer Device must be cheap. You are always competing against price with these devices. R&D of a new product isn't cheap. If you release your code too soon, you will have a bunch of clones in your space, you have taken your Idea's and are able sell their product for cheaper, because you did the R&D for them.
4. The device needs to be new. You got 1 perhaps 2 years to sell a product before it becomes a dinosaur. People will be using the product for perhaps 4 years. Too keep development time at the correct pace, it is often better for you hire developers to do the work, then hire some, and hope for a rag tag team of volunteers to help out. While this in itself doesn't preclude product from being Open Source it does however, gives the company hiring the developers, intensives to hold on to their IP, unlike other projects where you have a team of community developers and closing the source is much more of a complicated process.
There are a lot of people out there. A lot of them who are overall a benefit to society, however there is a fair number of people who has not developed the "Super Ego" so they when they see the purse in the convertible, they don't think. That isn't mine, so I should leave it alone, besides I know how I would feel if someone took my money. They think more of the lines, look at that Rube, she left her money wide open, she deserves to get it stolen, if it isn't by me, then by someone else, and I really would like the money for myself.
It really depends on what you want. Apple Computers are not overpriced! There is a limited selection of Apple computers. So you may not get what you are looking for.
Take an Apple Computer. Go to Dell, or HP, or Lenovo. Try to find the closest model that matches the Apple computer. Match the specs up... All the specs, if you can, none of this we don't need this feature idea (If apples keyboard glows find the upgrade to make the PC keyboard glow.) You will find that their price is about the same as the Apple computers price +/- $100.00
Apple computers do not cost much more then any other Name Brand PC. That said. Apple has a limited amount of models. So chances are you can find a PC that matches your needs and budget much better, because you can make other trade-offs. You can not bother with the Back Lit keyboard, you don't need to get the video camera, You can get the model that is 1/2 inch thicker or 1/2 a pound heavier. So you can get the faster CPU or more Memory, for less cost.
The problem was it got way too political. Popular links were all about these crazy "Tea Party Proportion" anti President Bush Links. This attracted the general dumb masses who will follow or reject the idea based squarely on the political party the presents it.
