Most Slashdotters have a very critical view on technology (Too critical in my opinion), and if this technology hasn't been completed by their own camp it is considered a threat. Or if some popular person in their camp does some crazy rant they will overnight change their own opinion and go with them. I like to look at the Negativity towards cloud computing... Before RMS rant on how bad it was, Slashdot had an on average positive attitude towards it, then right after RMS rant Slashdot switched almost overnight to hating it as it was pure evil.
Slashdotters overall hate corporations unless somehow they are in their camp. Google is hit or miss, IBM Slashdoters love, Microsoft can do no good.
Apple fixed a bug in their code... It is a good thing! Less bugs and security holes in a product makes it better... Unless you are just pining on having Apple fail miserably you should be happy it is fixed.

Also as a person who never really excelled at school. The problem with a lot of schooling is the fact most of the testing is based on memorization. Math been taught by telling the kid to remember the formula vs. Trying to teach them how the formula was approached. Which is interesting because I have talked to a lot of people who Say I HATE math and I cant do it and the only math class I did well was when they actually did proofs. Perhaps because my minor was focused in Discrete mathematics but I think understanding how math works is more important then going threw the motions to solve the answer.

What we really need to do is find the average of our use and calculate the amount of variance our usage has, then convert that into a standard deviation and get something that can handle 2 Standard Deviations faster then the average... That that should be good.

Failure to do so may cause other OS's to become more popular then you have wasted your time and resources on that choice. But if you defend it and keep it going then your choice was valid and good and you didn't wast your life on your OS choice.
The same with religion, Religions that expand by converting adults are often have members with more Zeal then people who grew up with a Religion because that was what their family practiced. Or with someone who decided to become an Atheist, they will often be more hateful towards people who believe in religion.

So depending on how the numbers work out you could see that that DVD mailing past a particular size will not scale well and become unprofitable at the current rate.
When they switch to streaming the problem still exists however a human can normally manage 25-100 computers which allows the business to grow with less bureaucratic problems.

We often forget about the power of Good Enough when you compare it against excellent. When we make decisions to buy x over y. We usually have a feature count, vs. feature quality. Especially if the matching features are good enough per match. The iPhone out Featured the Blackberry. Blackberry had some features superior (Really nice keyboard, battery life for example) to the iPhones but... the iPhone was good enough to make such a feature superiority a minor detail. Then after you get the market share and you become a leader, then you will need to be either a Lot Better (bigger feature count of good enough or better) or a lot cheaper where you feel that you got a better deal.
I often don't have respect for many "charitable organizations" as many of them are ineffective and are usually just some sounding board for a group of peoples political beliefs, and do a small set of actual good work so they can get funding, so they can make a living (Often a very wealthy one) being self righteous.
However the Gate Foundation I do have respect, They do things the right way, They figure were can I put money that will have the most benefit, and make logical decisions. For example they made some people quite angry when their researched showed that Teachers without Masters degree taught students just as well as ones with them. So the Gates Foundation will not wast their money trying to get teachers with Master Degrees, and that schools are wasting their money forcing their teachers to get master degrees.

Windows ME compared to Windows 7, The stability of the internet. Do you remember the hit and miss of dialup? Even the countless disconnect problems with Cable or you ISP. Things have gotten a lot better. We should look forward, to new and better things.
Yes these numbers make knowing the version you are using useless. There is one thing to get rid of minor version numbers but to skip randomly is just STUPID. Just stop giving numbers. And we just have Firefox, no numbers, if it is out of date we will never know and will be happy in our ignorance.
Do you think the main purpose of the open source community is to provide tools for megacorporations? What about Mom and Pop Shops? (1-25 employees) What about small businesses? (25-100 employees) What about medium sized businesses? (100-1000 employees) What about Large businesses? (1000-10000 employees) How about Not For Profit? How about Government? How about Military? How about Education? I could see all these groups being politically offended using such tools with names like that. The only group with a Naming Scheme like that would be the lone hacker in their parents basement.
Most use of computing (especially software development) is done by organizations often to manage For-Profit or Cost Saving activities, by people who are paid to do the work.
