Perhaps this will be the Ubuntu install were I have no problems like everyone else claims. Every freaking version I try installing I always seem to run into issues, and not of them are easy fixes. Oh you want native resolution fine but you will need to give up GNOME, Unless you want to install it via TAR Balls. Oh you want sound sure... But this only worked in some apps. Oh what is the fix for that. Go into you etc file and add some cryptic commands that are not in any man page.
But if say there are problems with Ubuntu and there are things that OS X or Windows handles a lot better. Be prepared for a fight and everyone calling you an idiot.
You mean all Political Parties Try to do this. Don't let your personal favor to an other political party make you think that you are not getting brainwashed too.
These are situations that are not really a problem just a bad choice on your part...
As technology goes out of date there is often a grace period where you can Upgrade/Convert your data... You shouldn't rationally expect to keep that system running in full production for ever there is a point where you need to upgrade.
Now if you are a collector then yes you will need a store of replacement parts to keep it going. That is what classic car collectors do.
So if you are in the situation that you need to replace a part for a product that you need to use. Then it is your/your companies own damn fault for not upgrading in a rather generous window that they have.
Star Trek 2 Was design to redeem itself from Star Trek the Motion Picture. But trek was on its path of loosing popularity... Unfortunately the made the movie too good and people wanted more.
Star Trek 6 Was because the Cast was getting too old, They were acting Old in Star Trek 2 but by Star Trek 6 they were really showing their age. (Star Trek 7 the search for Kirks Teeth) As well many of the characters were kinda dying.
Star Trek Reboot, Really kept it going they just made it a way to have a new younger cast to continue on, So it would be safe to say Spock is retiring...
Also of note around the time the 1280x1024 monitors came out OS's began to natively support Anti-Alias there displays of fonts and even do so when they scale images down. Back in the old days it took way to long to render Anti-Aliasing so we needed higher resolution for better graphics. Is there a need for higher resolution monitors... Yes. I have some 300 DPI Photoshop files that I would love to see at native resolution full page. However for most cases it isn't much of a hinderance... Also duel display is much more common today. We don't need 1 big monitor to rule them all we have 2 or 3 small ones and it is common now... Back in the old days having 2 displays was reserved for the geekiest of the geekiest and was usually for having graphics on one display and text on the other.
In short the Resolution War is like the MHZ/GHZ war it has came to a point where it is good enough for most people. So they will sell for m
Putting your cynicism aside. Small companies offer more flexibility and can operate at lower budgets then larger companies. When you get larger there are so many people you need to manage that you need more people to manage the programmers, then you need people to manage the managers, As it grows further you get more and more layers. So in terms of personnel large companies spend a lot of money on Human Resources. Where the people who actually do the work seem almost the same amount as their bosses. However also when companies grow they have some cost saving ability too as well they can sell more product. So a small company can sell a product with 30% profit and do well. A larger company has smaller profit per unit. Unless they can make the product of a different set of quality or market it in a way that people are willing to pay the premium.
Which is my point... Apple doesn't seem like it is going to undercut the competition in price. So they are not price gouging or being anti-competitive.
Exactly it is not like they are going to do that much difference. Ok they will probably save like 20% off the cost of the CPU. Then pass a 10% cost savings to the customer, however there are other devices that run on thinner margins then Apple does so I don't see apple undercutting the competition in price. Apple doesn't work that way. By owning Arm is puts apple in a position if their mobile devices stay a great success they win. If the competitor takes over but still uses their processors Apple still wins, although as not as much. But it is a case where they can mitigate their risks. Also if they can push R&D to make the chip to fit what they want all the better.
Just as our TV shows being broadcasts into space by the time they leave the solar system there is so much interference of background noise there is no statical way to differentiate it. The Narrow one may be better however... It will need to be pointed directly at us. Which would be silly just because we are sun is so boring and so many others that look like it that there is a near 0 chance that they will send a signal.
I think there people are kinda in the Hey I got something for nothing mindset. And just want to brag about it, so they feel like they are special. I don't use add blocking myself perhaps just because the sites I go too are rather respectful of the add, heck I have the option to turn off adds in Slashdot (Good Karma bonus or something) and I don't really use it much because slashdot adds arn't that bad. I do install add block on my wife's netbook because the adds really hinder the system performance. But oddly enough adds have help keep the internet relatively free for most users. If you remember back in the BBS days for any BBS that had more then say 2 nodes or was very well maintained (in essence costing more to operate then on a normal hobby budget) they were paid boards or sections where you need to pay for more access. I remember paying $20 a month for a BBS that allowed you to send internet email, and browse gopher and download from FTP, as well it had a lot multi-player games (doors) and Muds and about 20 nodes so they were in action... The SysOp spent a lot of time and needed the money not for profit but to break even.
As Web Pages have taken over the BBS. Back in the 1990's they needed to figure out how to make money off of their sights. They are offering a service to people but do they have people pay to view the site or bare threw and add. They chose the latter and I think the web is better off because of that fact. This silly utopian vision of people spending their lives to make a website great with no payments or getting paid by some anonymous source to keep it going is a pipe dream. We don't live in a perfect world and we need to choose what trade off do you want to take.
Oh I can't afford it so Ill take it because I want it. Is still wrong.
If you can't afford it and you want it you have options... 1. Find a way to get more money. 2. Save your money by giving up something else you want. 3. Don't get it.
Out of those thousand files how many would have bought CDs for if you couldn't get those files. Your argument is like if you shop lift a store you should only be responsible for the at cost value of the product.
Now your argument would be better if you were getting songs that you couldn't get elsewhere legally. Kinda like the Abandon-ware issue. At least if you want the material that is the only method you can get it.
Like why they were taken down... Blogs taken down because of slander or libel. Add taken off because of false advertising Search terms that are using in pedophile.
I would like to see why they were down more then how much was taken down. I want to know what is being censored not how much we are censoring it.
I think it is more to the problem. That someone who steals $1000 worth of phone service will get in just as much trouble for a guy who scammed people out of millions of dollars. At least for the hacking bit. Hacking really isn't in one box of evil. Some are equivalent of shoplifting and others are like bank robbery.
Probably but it is another charge to add to the list of charges they performed. Or if they were found innocent of everything else there is still a charge against them.
You are making the assumption that the part that does the rendering of the SMS calls and formatting were part of the same group that takes the SMS and call the function. You assume that this was in the specs for people to follow. And no one brought it up because they though the other team has the problem fixed. And the they had a timeline where they could make this issues for all systems...
If supply goes up and demand stays the same prices will go down. If demand goes up and supply stays the same prices will rise. What happened was the economy dropped so they lowered their supply otherwise what could happen is the Supply/Demand curve would fall under making profit. Now as we recover demand is rising again but they are unsure about the longterm projections so they are keeping supply still low for a while.
This isn't necessarily greed unless they are bean counters. Sure you may make more per unit but if you sell more units for less then you can make more money.
The cows are going to eat and walk anyways... Might as well make the cow more efficient. There is a lot of energy wasted anyways might as well capture some if it and convert it to a more useful form.
1. You can find your own altitude where you are not by an other driver. 2. You can fly in a straight direction not on roads. 3. Fast drivers or Slow drivers and avoid each other better as they can go around them in many different ways.
That is kinda a good point... But I think it is a difference in attitudes too. Back in them Good Old Days. During the tech boom CS grads were treaded like Gods and got the huge salaries and perks for stupid jobs. We were meant to believe that we could do anything. We can run a company better then an MBA we could do it all... Then the bubble popped, we realized that we sucked at business (Yep I guess selling the product less then what it cost for us to make it was a bad idea) Also that 100+k a year Microsoft Front Page developer had to come to the understanding that he really isn't worth that much... From being a wealthy job went straight down to a middle class job.
New developers who do this and study this do it because I like the topic, not because it will make them rich or make them seem like they are the super intelligent person. Now the down side of that is we feel self conscious about taking on something big. Where before it would be self empowering, Hey I am a god, Ill prove it by tackling 4 millions of lines of code and fix the problem.
1. You actually found these jokes funny in the first place.
2. You impression of the humor changes just because you learned about the guys religious/political stance.
3. You even care what his religious/political stance of an actor is?
You are one really petty person.

Yea 2 heads both plotting to kill all the normals who only have 1.

Politicians... Don't they already have a spare face?

I would say Number 5.

You do realize clothing designers rummage threw the trash to make popular whatever statistics show that people throw out in a significant amount.

It depends... If what you are working really interests you 90 hours is really easy. Most of our jobs are not so exciting that we can handle it.
yes but what is the delta between stamping a 4 core and a 6 core?
Probably but it is another charge to add to the list of charges they performed. Or if they were found innocent of everything else there is still a charge against them.

In many ways 3 dimensions is actually easer.
1. You can find your own altitude where you are not by an other driver.
2. You can fly in a straight direction not on roads.
