    Hyperbole doesn't help inspire change.
    Rising sea levels will not kill millions of people. It may displace Millions of people but not kill them.
    Climate change isn't the fault of any one group, but a collective issue of the world. Nuclear isn't without its trade offs as well. And requires a long term commitment in managing Radioactive waste. Such as commitment that we as a society may not be able to keep, a few generations of politicians looking the other way. War, Natural disaster. Can easily cause the population to forget about the problem beneath their feet. As it will take thousands of years for it to go away. It would be like us treating pollution that cavemen started just so they could cook meat the way they liked it.

  3. YouTube, or nearly any Social Media.
    Being Art and how and why you ingest it is a personal thing, means you will never really get from any particular source good suggestions.

    Sometimes you want a dumb action flick, just to relax, you don't want a social commentary on why the movie is so bad, because the horse drawn carriage caught on fire when it crashed.

    Sometimes you want something smart, but what people recommend for it, movies that just may be too dull, or what is smart for them is cliche to you.

    Social Media, tends to work better because you relate to people who are similar mindset you are in.

    If all the other states are doing it, it isn't so bad, but if you are out of sync with the other states, makes interstate commerce a bit more challenging.

    False information is far more interesting then the truth, that is why it spreads so easily.

    Real life, has layers of boring complexities, where they are trade offs that need to be accounted for, and resources that may be better spent elsewhere.

    Machines are good in the fact that they don't have self preservation instincts. We humans will work on a problem until we are tired from it, or have something more important come up, and distract us. The computer can work on a problem, and burn itself out if necessary. So other then specialized wiring to do fast mathematics. In terms of AI problem solving, humans are faster in general, but we get tired of working on a complex problem, while the computer may not handle such info as fast, but will stay on it fully focused until it is done, and if distracted it doesn't need to back track.

    And I thought my gut instinct to the article was right leaning.
    That poor people make poor money choices, so giving medicaid patients (given to struggling people) they will spend more on things that do not have a long term value, trinkets that will give an immediate satisfaction, vs long term pleasure. Is this a gross stereotype? Yes, yes it is. However it is a normal trend that could be taken advantage of. Because on the more altruistic view of this. These people may not be able to have ready transport to the city for shopping, or to the local Bigbox Mart, and products such as cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products are often not covered by welfare programs. So services such as free shipping of such products is probably a strong benefit.

    Unfortunately science reporting is normally really bad.
    They call a Hypothesis a theory. They call a Theory hard fact or a law. And a scientific law is something that somehow can be broken.

    In studying the nutrition of eggs. There was a hypothesis that the cholesterol in eggs were linked to cholesterol in the arteries. So initial steps in the research would probably be lets feed a human/human analog an all egg diet, and measure there cholesterol. So the initial research of an All egg diet can lead to heart problems is a valid study. However this isn't a recommendation that eggs are unhealthy, because it was a controlled study and there are other factors involved too. Most people will eat other foods that can counter act the negative effect of eggs, plus you get the other nutrients in eggs which are helpful.

    The problem is bitcoins are too expensive and currently too volatile to actually spend for products. The price needs to go back down to the $100.00 mark. And stay consistent with its growth more or less in tune with inflation. So people are not going crazy to mine for it, and are not hording their coins, but spending and trading them for goods and services, like they were intended for.

    Where Apps can be downloaded and Rendered on the fly, using some sort of interpreted language, that is platform independent, with open specifications.
    Where development can happen on any PC, and testing is primary about testing it on the given screen sizes.

    These user conferences are not about software, it is about bigwigs to go and make contacts. While us working folks, can get our work done uninterrupted.

    The last time I been to one of these, I had more interest looking at the other vendors booths to see what they are doing and where the market is shifting. The actual speeches and stuff, were just a wast of time.

    There are ways to get the best of both worlds with Linux and Virtualization windows, or Wine. It really depends on which system you do your pirmary work, and which system, you are good with running in a slower mode.

    A Chromebook, is more of a mobile device in a Laptop frame. Today when someone buys a Personal Computing Device, they have options now, for a cheap chrome book or a tablet. Good for most peoples daily activities. Or to get a Full fledged PC/Laptop where they are expecting to be able to do more with the expensive hardware.

    So the slow speed, of an over engineered OS combined with the limited functionality of a mobile Cloud OS.

    That reminds me of Microsoft .NET implementation
    The speed of Java with the Platform Independence of making it in Visual Basic.

    I think it is because they weren't around when Microsoft actually done an Embrace, Extend and Extinguish.
    Tools like Lotus 123 (Spreadsheet), Word Perfect (Word Processor), Fox Pro (Database Language), Which were big names that kept MS-DOS and the PC Compatible going. These tools were needed for Microsoft success. So they had embraced them, Working closely with them to make sure they could take new features the OS provided (and for Fox Pro, Microsoft even purchased it, and kept it up to date for about a decade). However they were working on their own version of these products, Excel, Word and Access originally was the cheap-o product that can be added onto a PC. Where the professionals would get the real software. However this put MS in a position where they are getting people using their products, where they can improve it to be competitive, Then just give their once allies the boot, by providing them with poor libraries, while the Microsoft products had a more direct communication with the system, making them run faster and with new features, not available via the normal API. Giving them a full advantage.

    Microsoft isn't doing any of this with Linux at the moment. Linux for Windows isn't a key feature for Microsoft Success nor is Linux dependent to Microsoft for its success.

    Also being that Linux Subsystem on Windows, isn't turned on by default and takes effort to get it going, with it acting more like a Linux distribution in a virtual box. I don't see this as Part of the EEE strategy. It is more of a plug a hole so people just don't uninstall windows to use Linux primarily strategy.
    Linux has been doing fine without Microsoft, it isn't like Lotus 123, or Word Perfect which business required Microsoft to play nice with them. Linux being its own OS, can run just fine without Microsoft. Microsoft needs LSW more then Linux needs it.

    I am a proponent on Innocent until proven guilty. And living a life not worried that the state will find a way to arrest you or fine you for every lapse in judgement.

    Because the issue are often far more complex. So the car tells you the road is icy, but where is it icy? So you may had been checking on your right side for ice, while your car hit the Ice on your left side, causing you to spin because you were breaking trying to look for the ice.

    Now if the police came, and saw the car saying it was icy, you could be ticketed for not doing enough or not the right thing. Vs. if you didn't know about the Ice, and you didn't cause any damage, then you will probably be let off, with a warning to remember it is slick out there.

    Draconian approach to laws, normally keep the honest people afraid. Vs. trying to prevent people from doing such an act.

  22. The problem isn't social networks, but foreign actors who abuse their flaws.

    Lets use social media to setup a Protest against Policy X and try to get all the people who are fervently against it to show up. At the same time with a different login name setup a Protest in the same spot strongly supporting Policy X get as many people fervently for it to show up too. If they are lucky it will cause violence. The country doesn't care about Policy X, only that it is contentious and easy to manipulate people to go out and be fervent on their cause.

    Moderate views are getting tuned out, because the extreme voices are being picked up and amplified.

    Lets go to Teenagers eating Tide Pods. They are old enough to know better, however their persona is to be the person who goes to the extreme, because this causes them to get attention. So to show how brave and extreme they are they will put Tide pods in their mouth. We have seen this behavior in the past before social media, with kids drinking until wasted and proudly state how wasted they were the previous night.

    Being now there is an audience for your view point, whatever one it is to be. If you go Extreme you will get a solidify audience. While a moderate response, will get a tepid response, because people will need to parse out for themselves what they like and don't like about a particular view point, and cannot fall back on a binary, they are with more or they arn't

    I was thinking more about stay straight for 30 miles. Then turn right you have reached your destination.

    Turn signals are to tell people what you are going to be doing with your car. Vs telling where you car wants to be. Also this could give confusing information if the car says turn right and you decide to ignore that particular GPS request so the onlookers don't know if you just didn't use your turn signal, or you are going straight.

    Interesting idea in theory,
    However the car is broadcasting data to the public, that an individual may not want to share. Lets say it is linked to the GPS and shows where to turn, for the most part that will be great, because it is like an enhanced reality display, except for the fact everyone else knows where you are going.

    Or if you see the warning displayed and you failed to take the accurate action leaving to a traffic ticket, because you don't have the excuse you didn't know about the road condition.

  25. I wouldn't say respectful. I am willing to be cynical, and say the Researcher tried to slander Uber (because we are suppose to hate Uber) and Uber called them out on it. Chances are Uber was like, your numbers do not match to what we have, I recommend that you recalculate your numbers and apologize, Because we can eat you alive in court.
