A gig? Where have you been? My Gmail storage limit is currently 2869 MB, and tomorrow it'll be even higher. That's all beside the point, though. I love Gates-bashing as much as the next guy, but Microsoft is offering a site designed specifically for web storage. Using Gmail for file storage, last time I checked, was neither supported or even condoned -- hence the reason you need third party apps to do it.
A much better comparison would be to AOL's online storage service, as mentioned in the article.
Isn't the moon getting smacked around by asteroids on a fairly regular basis (hence all those impact craters)? How long is a "permanent" installation really going to last? I know I must be missing something... Right?
Green Goblin threw her from great heights
I couldn't save her, not with all my spider might
Now my darling Gwen is dead
And when there's green before me, all I see is red
That is an awesome idea! I, too, think that a single CAD button is ridiculous. Isn't the whole point of using those particular keys that you can't hit it by accident? Having that functionality in a single button seems as silly as having the power switch off if you double tap the space bar...
Notice how this 22-month old child can play a vigorous match of Wii Tennis and not smash the TV with the Wiimote? And he's not even using the wrist strap. We should all keep the link to this video handy for when people complain about how the Wiimote is impossible to keep a grip on while playing.
Yeah. Sometimes I can get it okay. But I have to pronounce the words in what feels to me an unnatural way. I just use the test selection cheat and play my favourite tests instead. The Voice Calculation exercise seems to work much better -- the main problem I have with that one is simply answering a problem before the game is ready for it. Although, sometimes I give an incorrect answer and it assumes I meant something else and gives it to me anyways. Apparently, "one" and "seven" are indistinguishable...
I think the microphone works best for games where all it needs to recognize is the player blowing into it or making a simple sound.
1. I agree the mic is annoying ("@#!* you Kawashima, I said BLUE!"), but I doubt it's going anywhere.
2. Yes. I never had an original DS, but those buttons are way too freakin' small.
3. If they added a second DS slot (which I would love), it would probably go up top. They will never get rid of the GBA slot because -- contrary to your belief -- that slot is very useful. The GBA has a huge library of games that ALL work on the DS. Perhaps more importantly, there are many DS games where you get extra functionality if you have the right GBA cart inserted. One word: Pokémon. They would never get away with taking away the ability to import all your creatures from the previous games -- the franchise is way too popular.
4. I agree, keep it simple. But a browser, appointment book, notepad, etc. all seem entirely feasible (I'm less convinced about all the media capabilities people are talking about; I agree they should just get a PSP if they want that). I doubt any of these changes will come for the current generation, but I would be very surprised if they weren't a part of the DS2.
I either bus or walk everywhere I go. I don't pay too much attention to what others are doing on the bus, though. I'm usually busy playing my DS. There could very well be more PSP players out there now and I just haven't noticed them. Like I said, I plan to join their ranks when I have the cash on me, but I will likely still play the DS too. As other people have noted, they both have strengths and weaknesses for particular game types and genres.
Really? Wow... Here in Ottawa, I've only ever seen three people playing PSPs, and out of all my friends and acquaintances, there's only one that I know of that owns one. I've probably seen at least 5-6 times as many DSes out there, and six of my close friends own one. For what it's worth, I'm 31 and my friends range in age from early 20s to early 30s.
I'm actually considering getting a PSP. I think it's a beautiful system, it was just out of my price range when I was shopping for a handheld. Now that you can pick up a used PSP for about the same price as a new DS ($150 Canadian), it's looking more attractive to me. I won't be ditching my DS any time soon, though.
Oh, I'm definitely looking forward to it. I have no intention to buy any of the next-gen systems any time soon, but I already have the DS and I could care less about graphics, so long as I can understand what I'm looking at. My only concern right now is how much game they can fit on a DS cart. I've seen developers of much less ambitious games complain about the cart sizes. Rocket Slime was cute, but over quickly and had no lasting replay value for me. DQ Monsters: Joker looks pretty snazzy, although I've only seen screenshots and no videos yet. I'm waiting for some English-language reviews to surface. I'm crossing my fingers that Squeenix continues the increased GBA and DS lovin' it's been showing recently for a while.
How funny, then, that Dragon Quest IX is coming out on the DS. It'll be interesting to see how it does with the system's graphical limitations compared to the game's predecessors. And yes, to those doubters out there, this is going to be the DQIX, as in it's not planned for any other systems and it is officially the next installment in the series.
This is in no way new technology. Neurofeedback has been studied since the twenties. I studied this about 10 years ago, and my professor was active in the field, so I got to learn about all kinds of cool stuff they were doing. Basically (probably starting around the 70s or 80s), researchers could wire you up to an EEG biofeedback machine and put you in front of a monitor with several bars or other graphics on it. They would then tell you something like, "Make the third bar grow higher." This would be done by, for example, increasing your brain's beta waves, but you had to figure out on your own how to do that by concentrating until the screen did what you wanted it to do. For children, they made it into a game: A plane is flying along the horizon and you need to make it rise and fall to avoid obstacles. Some very cool stuff with fantastic real world applications: Teaching epileptics how to alter teir brain wave patterns to stop a seizure before it starts, methods of fighting depression without drugs, etc. the list goes on.
It's fascinating stuff, and definitely recommended reading if you can find any material on it.
The game has been out since late September in Japan. I've seen several hands-on reviews that make mention of the voice chat function. I'm too lazy to check, but it was probably mentioned in previews as well. This is old, old news.
Hahahahahaha! If the game sells well. Pokemon is a proven franchise and the arrival of the next iteration on DS has been highly anticipated. Even used copies of the old GBA titles (when you can find them) are often sold for higher than their original retail price.
Well, there are headset microphones available for the DS. Perhaps voice chat will only be possible with DS-Wii interconnectivity. Then again, doesn't the Wii have all kinds of input options? Couldn't they just release a USB microphone?
...
EDIT: A quick Google check tells me there is a Wii microphone coming out in the near future. That answers that question.
Where did you get that there'll be no voice chat? They say the first game to use the service will be Pokemon Battle Revolution... and I know for a fact that the new DS Pokemon games (which are compatible with the Wii title) do have voice chat. It would be kinda weird if the DS title had voice chat but the Wii one had more limited interactivity.
Articles like this make me uneasy fnord. I think they're lying to us fnord, and subliminal advertisements really do exist fnord, they just want to throw us off the trail fnord so they can continue lying to us fnord.
You can't trust anyone fnord.
If you've ever seen any of the figurines that they've been churning out for Spore, those are done with an in-house 3D printer. They sometimes send figures to people of the creatures they designed in the Creature Editor at their trade show appearances.
From everything I've read about Sonic's coming debut on the Wii, it's finally a 3D Sonic that captures the essence of the 2D classics. He's essentially on rails, goes unbelievably fast non-stop, and collects as many rings as he can. Sounds good to me.

That's the best Russian reversal I've seen on Slashdot yet! Very nice.

On second viewing, I think you're right. I didn't realize the straps were so freakin' long.
Are there any pictures of this thing actually open? "Million dollar laptop created... here are some pictures of a nondescript rectangular thing."

Hmmm... My thoughts on your list are as follows:

2. Yes. I never had an original DS, but those buttons are way too freakin' small.

One can be married with children and still be a basement-dwelling reject. You'd just be a basement-dwelling reject with more background noise.

If they can fix orbiting satellites easily now, we're at most 5 years away from "Pimp my Geosynchronously Orbiting Ride."
