What are you talking about, it's very expensive to fix. First you have to pay for the code updates, that's going to be a million, take a year, and be delivered late. Then, you have to do a mass software update, that's going to be another 10 million. Then lastly, the most expensive part, a "hardware update" issuing new cards to be compliant with the new standard to match. I don't even want to dream how much that would cost.

And what Java v. C++ isn't the war of the languages?
Learn C++ || Java > C# > dogshit > VB just matters what you want and what you are ready to give. I've been in Java webdev crap for 5x years and I'll tell you it's a great language but there is a point where manual control; even to this day; would be nice. Oh wait java has that what am I saying.
I wish I had mod points, I don't care if you are AC this is most likely the actual reason. But people seem too short sighted and think it's a cultural thing.
How did you take that as "getting in someones face". He merely replied to a comment with an explanation. His post was informative "This is what I've tried, would you have other suggestions" and "thanks for the suggestion". So I guess what would help him out the most is what part did you particullarly find offending?
GDP: Gross Domestic Product, otherwise known as GDI: Gross Domestic Income is 14.33trillion dollars. Our DEBT is 11 Trillion, if you clicked either of those links (atleast the first one) you would see that you are flat out wrong.
Though it would appear in the CIA world factbook (link above):
Debt - external:
$12.25 trillion (30 June 2007)
Also, why yes I do understand we have trillions in programs, if we were to devote 100% of our income to paying down our obligations to others those programs (which give money to US citizens) would be paid back. I gave you a link with our total obligations.
So again, do you know what you are talking about you very snide individual.

See, here is the problem, a select few care but to most it's a mention on the news and a move on. Not until someone is in need of Health Care, or they lose there job to the economy do they really care. It can be broken down to this very simple statement: "Does it affect me?" ? "I care!" : "Oh that sucks/is nice"; (For those who don't understand a ternary expression first is true, second is false to the question prior to the question mark). Now I may be making an over bearing generalization, but most people either A) Know someone who has consumed cannabis or B) Have done it themselves. Being so this is an issue that affects most Americans, and so you have it, it is probably accurate.
To respond to the "younger generation" comment, I have a question for you: A) How old are you, B) Have you ever smoked pot, B-a) Have you ever known someone who has smoked pot, and C) If you could ask about it's status of legalization, would you? Answer truly, don't just answer "No" so that you can be a real winner at the interwebs.
Disclaimer: My argument is totally destroyed by people who actually buy into common propaganda.
I've run into similar problems as you; they really don't seem to be teaching anything practical for the business world. They cover a lot of theory, which is great in academia, but in reality I need you to quickly and cleanly make me a loop that iterates through a group and retrieves my data. Though, on-topic, working as a consultant with one of the major firms, my experience: Those who were hired as "American consultants" from Georgia Tech, MIT, etc can't do the basics and spend way too much time on trying to recreate the wheel. Those from India, well it's a pot shot, 3 out of 4 of them don't do programming and they demand way more breaks; that forth one carries the weight of the rest of the team but often still puts out unmanageable code and requires me spending evening hours cleaning up to work out a few bugs and do a serious overhaul for future maintainability.
So really it's a pot shot on either group, one group can do the basics, and one group can clean up the other group. The only thing I have to say about Americans; and really I think this is a cross-cultural problem; is they are willing to learn more oft then not. I spent 2 months in Hydrabad trying to teach a group of Indians one took the rest blew me off.
No real way to hide that damn box though; I don't need it; and if I choose "Low Bandwidth" it makes it stretch across the top. Annoying as hell, lucky for me I'm doing something right because slashdot seems to run just fine for me except when posting a comment.
I have to agree, headphones are my salvation, but still I'm better at getting work done between 5 and 10 (with g. I can churn a weeks worth of code in those 5 hours. I'd happily work till 9am to 10pm Monday-Wednesday and take the other days off in a week.
then they remember it's Louisiana. This needs to be Federal! We need a treaty ratified just like the Kyoto protocol. Wait shit we wrote that and didn't sign it. hmmm... suggestions welcome!
Actually, you are wrong, typically if the seniority is there what the company is running is probably implemented by them. Now say if it's a person with 20 years of experience in C++ vs a person with 3 years experience in Java EE and the Senior is trying to get a job as a web programmer why should he get a job.
Another thing, College's teach in a very academic way, almost all of the fresh grads I've had working under me (note I only have 5 years) seem to fail at the basics and the basic understanding of the concept of KISS. I do not have time for you to reinvent the wheel, nor the cost center to pay you to do so. Just use the freaking quicksort and get it over with.
After two years of experience a College Grad seems to get on the right track, but in two years of experience most programmers are either out of the field because they are useless or the skills are obtained.

Thank you for posting that link, I just sat down and read it and I must say "it was quite a great story".
Thanks!
Oh what...the...fuck....
I work with the data from the Texas HHS. Are you fucking kidding me, 13.5 bill and this is the best they can do?!
*fumes and debates dropping the whole database*

You know, this would be a fantastic way to troll someone.
I see you hunter2'ing all around the place.

Do you even know what you are talking about? Supposed if we gave 100% of our profits to the US Gov it would take 1 year to pay off and build a nice reservoir for our gov. $14.29 trillion (2008 est.) https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/US.html to 11trillion http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
It's been proven in countless studies that sleep deprivation and driving is more dangerous then drunk driving.

I don't see the correlation.
