"Impacted"
Plot: In the year 2050 the Earth almost crashes into the Orion Nebula, only to be rescued from destruction by two nerdy radio astronomers from Parkes Observatory in the middle of nowhere in Australia, who, whilst trying to find a cure for constipation from eating too much McDongles(TM) Impact McBurglettes, find that by injecting massive amounts of First Fleet Enema into the Nebula they can cut a path through the Nebula. The romantic part of the movie is where the local district nurse shows up and a tense love triangle is set up between herself and the astronomers.. etc..etc
the brainless sheeple Agreed. But this article is similar to what was done to the UFO spotters. UFO spotting is much more about finding secret military instillations than finding aliens, but the Pod People are full of spooks pretending to be lunatics.
The war debate and so forth is much more about truth than about whether reds or blues are in power, but the disinformation machine seeks to change the agenda.
Well, it is actually, literally, nothing to see - robotlike insects flying near a big crowd and nobody took any pics? How better to discredit anti war protesters than to make them look like a bunch of hallucinating idiots.
The linked article does not support the sensationalist nonsense presented in the summary. Obviously another feeble attempt to discredit those who wish to discredit Mishter Presidient.
When I update my OS, all my other software is updated as well, so I'm always up-to-date with security patches for everything, with almost zero effort on my part. Case in point: My wife, who has no technical prowess whatsoever regarding computers, has Ubuntu installed on her Dell laptop. Previously it ran XP, during which time she was constantly asking me about which updates are OK and which aren't, having to fork out money for anti-virus programmes and the typical "my computer is slowing to a crawl" that a lot of people complain about after having a windows install for 6 months or so. `Then one day the WGA or whatever it is came along and invalidated our OEM installation of XP.
Since we installed Ubuntu, the only thing she has needed help for was finding appropriate software with Synaptic - mainly to save time, since she knows how to use the search function on it. She knows that all the updates are 'OK', and not a thing has gone wrong with her installation for over a year now. She is confident to take her laptop anywhere without needing to know if there is a "computer guru" around to help if something goes wrong.
Our time is worth more than just money. Time spent fixing a broken computer is time spent away from the kids. Ubuntu was free, but the profits from stability and usability over XP have been immeasurable for us.
Because if less of the force is absorbed by the vehicle *crumpling* more of the force of a collision would be transferred to the occupants. Well nobody was saying you should make a car out of 1 foot thick steel-strength plastic. Even steel crumples if it's thin enough. It's just a matter of appropriate design.
Spontaneous, yet organized brain activity has been observed without stimulation and even in humans under anesthesia. This may be so, but it has also been shown that all organized brain activity ceases once on becomes President.
Why do we always have to go to "It's light! It's strong! This will clearly help prevent foreigners from killing our troops!"? Exactly! It's equally important to prevent us from killing our own troops, right? And other people's too, for that matter.
Perhaps it's time to introduce a system of rating of article veracity on basis on levels of evidence which takes into account:
References & types of publications used
Corroborating articles
Witness accounts
A bit like what's used in medical and other scientific literature where, for example, a meta-analysis of trials rates higher than a single trial and so on, with expert opinion having the lowest rating.
These criminals are giving a "smarter" * use for the enormous potential that these hundred thousands of homogeneous (or similar enough) connected machines have than most companies out there does. It is time for 1) Microsoft and its users get their act straight and work on better security for they machines and 2) someone to realize the incredible potential of all this "dark" bandwidth and processing power and give it a good use. Criminals are showing it is possible, all it need is some legitimate application.
Yes, it's time the Empire of Nastiness started to use its powers for good instead of evil.
Harry Potter survived an electric shock to his wand recently after an unfortunate accident which occurred during an argument between himself and Hermione at the girl's toilets. Rumors are abounding as to the exact details of the incident, but it has been corroborated by the Ministry of Madness that a handheld PC running on high voltage cells was in the possession of Hermione at the time of the incident. Alternative accounts of the incident state that in fact Harry Potter was having a leak at the boys' toilets whilst holding hands with Hermione (hence 'hand held leak'), whereas others refer to Harry Potter misinterpreting Hermione's comment about his personal computer being rather small. "I am not pea sized!" he was quoted as saying, shortly before his wand exploded.
Harry is currently recovering in bed and is due to have laser removal of a jagged tattoo that has developed on his lower body.
Wine? Cool aid! And you forgot to mention the Microsoft brand chocolate FUD.
Mmm.. I love FUD. Especially with coffee... freshly roasted Java beans.. yum! - gotta love that Kaffeine. I like applets too - but if I have too many I start to feel a bit bloated.
Blogs are great for some stuff, but forums are just killing the tech magazines, and the special interest stuff.
So while blogs are eating tech media alive, forums prefer to have tech media medium rare topped with firewire sauce, with a side of tarballs and microchips, washed down with a glass of wine... or something like that.
I think the success Firefox is having at the moment will drive its development further. Because it's not a commercial product we're not going to get the IE experience where the lazy bastards never fix anything and just add features that are broken. There is a genuine drive to innovate and make something that withstands the scrutiny of the community.
Maybe it will pave the way for some proper competition like Opera and others, which are bound to win more market share as the firefox using public start to hear about other alternatives.
Personally though, I've found Firefox to have gotten better and better with time. It's gotten very stable and has plug ins which run well and reliably. It's definitely ready for prime time.
By referring to a file that was supposedly removed the Swedish police can say that they did their job correctly and remove the black mark they put next to The Pirate Bay's name without having to backtrack or publicly apologise in any way.
That's probably right, but perhaps there is a bit more to it. Perhaps it is in the interests of law enforcement agencies for there to be sites like The Pirate Bay in order to track, profile and investigate potential offenders. A bit like a 'raise the flag and shoot whoever salutes' trick. It wasn't, after all, their job to stop software piracy, copyright infringement or anything else other than child porn.
I would imagine it's actually rather difficult to infiltrate a group of individuals which does not meet in a public place, nor communicate using conventional methods. It's also difficult to form such a group without ever having communicated somewhere in public - but they'd do it if they were forced to. Therefore, it's not in their interests to push the activity too far underground.
Alexander Ratushnyak compressed the first 100,000,000 bytes of Wikipedia to a record-small 16,481,655 bytes (including decompression program), thereby not only winning the second payout of The Hutter Prize for Compression of Human Knowledge, but also bringing text compression within 1% of the threshold for artificial intelligence.
Could someone out there please explain how being able to compress text is equivalent to artificial intelligence?
Is this to suggest that the algorithm is able to learn, adapt and change enough to show evidence of intelligence?
Indeed. A lot of projects are going to be switching to GPLv3 from GPLv2 in the coming weeks and months, are we going to get an article for each one of these projects that change their status? Why is this news?
Could it be that Samba is a major interoperability tool for use with Windows, and as such it has an implact on interoperability with possibly non-GPLv3 distributions eg: Suse and other distros that have made deals with Microsoft.
In other words, if you want your Linux to work well with Windows (which in a big way means Samba), go for a GPLv3 version.

Maybe it took them so long because they had to bug-fix the patch, so the replacement vulnerability won't be so easy for non-spooks to detect.
Crikes, if they had MILFs to market servers, that's what I'd call a service!

EULA: By installing the software, you agree by the terms and conditions as laid out in this document.
The consumer opens the package to find no paperwork inside. The damn thing was written on a microdot!
Actually I think it has more to do with the fact that astronomers eat far too much McDonalds.
Pffffffffaarrrrrrttttt!

Could have been avoided if his mother had tied her tubes earlier.

Just an idea, anyway.

It's just a cheap Chinese imitation.
