A coworker had vonage...Almost got me to switch too, but then he started complaining about latency issues..etc.

I have had MCI "Neighborhood" program (http://www.theneighborhood.com) for almost a year now. $49 gets me unlimited local and long distance service. Sign up under the Blockbuster promotion and you get a certificate for free game or movie rental for every $25 (so I get 2 per month). I have never had a problem with the service and it is chock full of features including the ability to listen to voice mail over the Internet and getting alerted to my pager, cellphone and/or e-mail when someone leaves a message!

Hmmm. You better be careful about discussing batteries and satisfying someone. I thought this was a family site! =)

Bah. Went to stuntman-game.com and received a "your browser is no good" page. It's sad when sites won't let you in because of what they THINK your browser it capable of. I'm running mozilla with the crossover plugins. I can, well could view all content, assuming they let me in. Bad, bad Atari.

  10. EverQuest on Can You Suggest Any Non-Zero Sum Games? · · Score: 1

While not being totally "non-sum", it does provide a level of interaction and really is never ending. I love arcade games (especially the old favorites), but enjoy interacting with others to something simple as Tetrinet to Quake, to EverQuest. With EverQuest, you actually depend on other (real) people, and the more interaction you have, the better off you are!

  12. Getting ADSL in 3 weeks. on BellSouth denies ADSL for Linux users · · Score: 1

I had the same problem with my current (slowly degrading) cable-modem provider. When the tech came out, I had everything ready to go. I simply asked for the modem, and the IP/Gateway information. I turned on the monitor and he said "what is this". I said "It's Linux". He said "Windows 95/98 or NT is the only AUTHORIZED operating system". I told him not to worry, that he wouldn't have to install it. He stuck around while I plugged the modem in, and configured the IP and was amazed at the speed and really liked WindowMaker. I gave him the check for installation and a CheapBytes RH Linux 5.2 CD and told him to go home and install a REAL OS =)

Anyway, getting ADSL from BellSloth in 3 weeks. I am sure a similar situation will occur with the bell tech, although he will get RH 6.0 =)

  14. Anyone ever use Caldera? on Caldera OpenLinux Power Bundle · · Score: 1

I have been using Caldera for the last 4 months and really like it (except for the fact that it is Libc5).

The built-in Novell networking and Palm Pilot application and development tools are what really impressed me.

I would compare it to RH as far as ease of use. It is good for newbies since it has KDE pre-installed, although I use WindowMaker myslef (of course using 5.0 WITH KDE support)..Thanks WM!
