  1. Sorry for this... on Underground App Store Courts the Jailbroken · · Score: 1

I know, it's bad to reply to oneself. I just wanted to add that when I look at that 1984 ad, I can't help but imagine all these people marching as being Apple fans following the voice of the company, telling them they are one people, one will, one resolve, one cause, that they shall prevail, etc.

I know this can be applied to any fanatics, but in this case the irony is too much.

Wow, I'm honestly surprised. I was explaining that to a friend two days ago. I'm happy I'm not the only one who can see it. Also, it's hilarious and sad at the same time to see people buy anything made by Apple because it's "Apple". This was parodied here: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1811646 and what makes it funny is that you're never told what it does.

A peer reviewed journal doesn't tell you that the article has real unfalsified results. The job of the journal is to see if the methodology is serious. So, if you fake your results and have a very well thought out methodology, you can be published. The burden of double checking the results is given to the readers, other scientists who would like to disprove the claims. That costs money and time so most people don't do it. They prefer to publish new discoveries instead.

The goal of marketing is not to sell you something you don't need. The goal of marketing is to sell you something that you didn't know existed and that will help you. So by seing a lot of ads, you might discover that you need more products to make your life easier. On the other hand, if you make the choice to disconect from all that, you can continue to manage your problems with what you already have and keep more money in your pockets (or invest ore money).

    Date: 1858

1 : the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
2 : material (as books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
3 : the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction

Nudity is not pornography and pornography does not require nudity.

Oh, I do agree that the graphics are not necessary, but people need them for some strange reason. It's the same thing with movies. People will want to watch the movie version of a book instead of reading it, even though the book has more details. Also, people will rent the latest remake instead of watching the old black and white classics.

  10. Yes and no... on A History of Early Text Adventure Games · · Score: 5, Informative

Back in the days, and I don't speak from experience, computers were not for everyone so the market was different. Today, most gamers don't have the patience to read a book, even less to think while doing so like you do in an interactive fiction game. Actually, the whole society is like that. So, shiny graphics ARE important today. I showed some Infocom games to some friends since I thought text adventures were a nice idea and when they saw there was no graphics they simply shrugged them off. Well, one did try Zork, and after a few minutes, he thanked me for showing him something he didn't know and never touched these kind of games after that.

Like Roberta Williams said in 1999:

Back when I got started, which sounds like ancient history, back then the demographics of people who were into computer games, was totally different, in my opinion, than they are today. Back then, computers were more expensive, which made them more exclusive to people who were maybe at a certain income level, or education level. So the people that played computer games 15 years ago were that type of person. They probably didn't watch television as much, and the instant gratification era hadn't quite grown the way it has lately. I think in the last 5 or 6 years, the demographics have really changed, now this is my opinion, because computers are less expensive so more people can afford them. More "average" people now feel they should own one.
