Ok, so we load Vista ultimate on all the machines, microsoft virtual PC and linux under that... hrmm, you know if you then water cooled the whole thing you could use the steam produced to run a turbine and produce some of the power needed to run it.
It would be kinda like a perpetual motion machine, but the complete opposite:)
Hrmm, or throw pop-ups with frames from the video in question at 25/sec (UK is pal remember), no flash would be needed then and it would be more annoying than blink tags and flash combined!

Hrmm, correct me if I am wrong (usenet servers in aus are a little odd/different than US ones I think) but doesn't the news server only hold the data for like 30 days or so? So they do take the information down, within 30 days of being issued with a take down notice?

Speak for yourself, one of my ancestors was a document forger sent over on the first shipment, and I am damn proud to be descended from them (can you say, early software pirate):P
Problem is, most people who think the whole "swapping is bad" thing are windows users, an OS that still has a tendency to swap out the most interesting and useful things.
Swap is great for a server or workstation, once set on a single task it needs never do anything else till shut down, but for a windows PC that could at any time have anything run on it (not to mention a sub-standard disk cache system) having parts swapped out to make room for a disk cache that doesn't do a whole awful lot is less than optimal.
This is of course the point where you point out that converting all your junk to windows vista and training all your staff to use the new office 2007 "ribbon" is about the same cost as training them to use linux and OOo, the latter being a lot cheaper too:)
If you bothered to look (yeah, this may make you look more so), the meaning of "blank slate" is a double reference in the game, partly to humanity having the earth uh, conquered on us and us having to make our way in the universe and being able to put all pasts behind us, as well it refers to the "magic" system of Logos that the player mast collect and add to their tabula (which surprisingly enough, starts out empty!), unlocking abilities and powers for them.
In the game the Logos (runes effectively) are a language that an ancient race used to communicate near universally with any race (gotta admit, it is easy to pick-up, once you learn a bit).
This reference of course isn't accidental, Garriot comes across (from chatting in game and reading informal chats done with him) as a real geeks-geek, could he have picked up the phrase from Buffy the vampire slayer? Maybe. Would he have known about it before hand, more than likely. Will ask him next time he is in game:)
Oh and all that info above is available on their non-NDA part of the web site ^_^
Hehe, iDon't blame you, iUse a nokia, it works on any network (3g anyone?), plays video from ANY format (thank you CoreAVC), lets me make voip calls over my 802.11g wireless at home and just works:)
Maybe people need to pull their iThumbs out of their iArses and open their iEyes (that is the best one) at just how revolutionary *cough* copycat *cough* their phone really is.
And yes, symbian S60v3 makes loading new apps very easy, and it wont brick my phone.
Well, just don't update its firmware, then you will have all the same functionality as you currently hav... what? iTunes will stop working with an unpatched one (not truth, just a guess)? But surely you wouldn't have spent THAT much on a phone that is so locked down it HAS to use a specific application just to transfer data to it?/me hugs their nokia e65
Uh, downgrade rights have been available since vista launch, it IS still around for your laptop, so long as you own either vista business or ultimate you can "downgrade" (yeah, upgrade, I know) to xp pro or 2000 pro (you have to provide the disks and the cd key, its ok if they have been installed on another machine), you will need to phone activate though, especially if its an "in use" cd key you are using.
All this is not really news, except that the makers of these units are now starting to pull their heads out of their arses and actually do what the customer wants, not what they are told to want.
How the hell is this news, downgrade rights have been available for consumers of ultimate and business since launch, it is how they get so many corporate sales of vista (since they ignore the vista part and just load xp pro as always.
I had one of the senior MS sales people for Australia recommend for our store to buy a 1 user "mass license" and then use that for installing downgrade rights, this is an option that has been open to OEMers for quite a while, its just they are finally waking up and realising that not everyone wants the latest POS from Microsoft.
Bonus points if you hook a 108mb/s wireless lan adapter via USB and throw some large data files over it, watch your data speeds closely, and monitor system performance even closer.
Firewire (1394, ilink, DV port, whatever) really was the shit, not only fast, low overheads AND its a peer-2-peer setup, in a pinch you could daisy chain PCs with it for an impromptu 400mb/s lan.
Why didn't they just hang USB out to dry and get power into the eSATA spec and use that? At least then no extra chips would be needed on a mobo, external HDD would hookup with no loss in performance and we might finally see thumb drives that work natively with ANY os as... drives.
Well, see, thing is, the standard for digital audio for quite a while now, has been 16bit @ 44,100 hz stereo, leaving the average song (around 3:30 or so at a guess) at well over 50M...
Now all you people with your DVD-A and AC3 streamed audio have valid points too, but really, the standard used by CDs is in the majority./sarcasm off

There we go, fixed ^_^
Oh and am I the first to say "imagine a Beowulf cluster o".... nm, windows can't do that.

It was just a thought, happen to know what the time period requirements are for DMCA take downs?

Hrmm, angry you are...
I sense the AOL is strong in this one, yes?
Guess IRC and finally Gopher will be up next :/
Hehe, back-moderated some of your posts up informative and insightful ^_^
Keep making us laugh please.

Or maybe it is in reference to how our media and our government seem intent to worm their way up Americas arse hole...

Hey, that could be good, since it would be an "out of the box" test, it might even stop MS from having IE as part of the OS.
"where would you like to go tod..."
"ahh shit, its got smitfraud again"
I was referring to the cases, I swear, those O2 toasters are the greatest ^_^
And lets face it, a plastic faeces producing factory would make a more interesting product than SCO could.
Why? Is IRC.RIZON.COM so hard to type into an irc client?
Even the anime producers are happy fan-subbers get so many people hooked on a series.
Another advantage you get with the DVD versions, most of them still have the real audio track ^_^
Thats because SGI still have products worth buying ;)

Would be better over the 1/8th, since it would still be accelerating at the finish then.
If you race over the quarter, you would top out about 2/3 down it.
