One of the new laptops with fingerprint reader, set a bios password with the fingerprint reader, then disable it in the bios and restart... Even the manufacturer was amazed this was possible, and offered my customer a new laptop due to it being the first he had seen of it.
Speaking as one person (not US tho) who does this kind of work...
NO you never "put some data on a customers computer", you never test a burner and its software by just checking the hardware, you never "go looking through peoples files... just for the hell of it".
Usually I grab a few gig of files from the "Windows" folder, which, once the burn is tested as successful, said disk is destroyed (not just binned, i peel the backing off it and break it).
Giving me your computer to fix software problems (burner install requires software work) is giving me permission to access your data for the purposes of making said repair. As a microsoft cert installer (and we are a member of the MS partener program) we have the right to make copies of windows files for internal use, so thats how I test them, an easier way is to use the customers data, as they have the rights in regard to that.
Lay off the guys, they did their job AND their duty to the letter of the law, you should be thanking them not looking for a which to burn.
Oh, and as for external testing programs, yeah knoppix will test the drive, but if their copy of nero is fubar they will be in the next day talking to your manager about having you sacked;)
Well, to be honest, as a computer retailer, this thing had me thinking at first, but reading the fine print (you have to run the spyware on your box for 3 months, then get a free toy) showed some downsides, like americans only, and a complete inability to exploit it for fun and... yeah profit:) (its not a bad word, really)
And yes, they will be the first against the wall when the revolution starts (apology mr adams).
As it stands the Terrorists out there are winning the so-called war, because they have convinced your government to turn the US into exactly what the Terrorists claimed it was in the first place.
And I wonder how long its going to take for someone with a voice over there to actually realize this? Or if by then it will be too late?
Ok, so these first, well designed from top notch materials, ones are fairly safe.
What happens when companies start mass-producing these, ala lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries. How much more dense is the stored power in these if something cheap breaks and decides to let it out...
The real question is why, why does our CPU have to be able to address the entire vid memory as real memory? Why not make a block device of it? Oh wait, its windows....
Same sort of problem as if a computer OEM doesn't give you the Microsoft EULA to peruse before running the pc for the first time.
Btw OEM can actually bypass all that and just present the box ready to roll, they just have to put a sticker with about 20 lines of legalese on the invoice and get you to sign it (stating that you will read the EULA prior to operation), but I am guessing said e-tailer didn't do anything remotely like this.
Probably because these are not "top of its range" chips, they are bottom of the range ones, wait for jan/feb (well maybe April the way they are going) for the high end parts.
Ok, I can deal with it taking a few pages, and you wanting a few ad hits, but only taking up half of my screen width, and then only using 1/3 of the remainder for text broken by seemingly useless photos... not going to bother.
Oh, I found a great way :)

Well, at least they are getting good at "power cycling the server" :P
.... war....
Wtf is supposed to be legal about it, you think dumping napalm on the iraq soldiers made them happy?
Why the fuck don't you just annex the damn thing, you invaded, you won, now you get your spoils of war.
Hrmm, I read all I could right upto the part where I had to digitally sign that I was 18 years+ and a US citizen... thats when I closed the site :)
Pfft, thats nothing, try one of these
Never has one sign that is technically correct confused so many before, than the hook turn (note, left side driving here, 's what makes it so fun).

Yup, if you install your free office 2007 under xp, you will have to worry about xp stuff.
;)
They are not going to increase XP market share without someone holding a gun to their head
Or if your data is that confidential, hit it with a sledge hammer and get a different brand?
And I wonder how long its going to take for someone with a voice over there to actually realize this? Or if by then it will be too late?
WHOOOOSSHHHHH :P

So, can I take one on a plane?

E65 actually, N95s lesser known little cousin.
:)
Slide phone, 802.11b/g (have got a SMB client on it), 2mp camera and with coreAVC will play any type of video no probs.
Yeah I could have spent an extra $200-300AU on the N95, but really didn't need to
Then sue the person who sold it to you, duh.
:)

*sigh* another reason to love my nokia
Cons: memory usage...
:)
As another news site points out and microsoft themselves agree, Vista, on a per box basis, uses more memory to boot than a supercomputer...

Oh and don't look at the disk space requirements, they are truly frightening

Any smart phone + CoreAVC == porn anywhere already, why do I need a... oh, MORE porn. I get it now, or at least I will get it
E-ink is static, there is no refresh until one is required.

It puts the sensual back in non-consensual.
Too much explosm
"I saw his body thrashing 'round
:P
I saw his pulse going down
I saw him in convulsive throws
I said, "I'll have one of those!"
I'm on the drug... that killed River Phoenix."
This is serious, mum
Ok, what the hell are you on? Oh right, the beads...
Yeah, but MS Vista is the biggest joke around, it can save the day!
