Has anyone had problems with updating 10.2.8? i can't confirm it, but I've read some comment at versiontracker.com that say after running the update kernel panics started happening. One even claims he had to reinstall his system.

I have been reluctant to install the updates because of this. Has anyone else heard/had this problem?

Yes, and as with the use of a trojan horse as a virus or at Troy the attack was a suprise. In this case, Steve Jobs and Apple openly say that the reason for iTMS is to sell iPods.

    From http://www.urbandictionary.com:

A virus-like program that pretends to be something else in order to get into the system.

From _The Iliad_, by famous dead poet Homer, when the Ithacans gained victory by hiding in a huge wood horse so they could get into Troy.

Please explain the accuracy (or, inaccuracy I should say) of the "iTMS = trojan" analogy, it's the second time I've seen it today. Apple is using a product to help the sales of another product. End of story.

  16. Miles Kimball on Retired Microsoft Operating Systems Still Popular · · Score: 1

Miles Kimball is a fairly large catalogue company based here. I work as an intern in the IT department and was rather surprised when I first discovered that pretty much every machine in the company was running W2k or older. A very large bulk is running Win98 and this is mainly because a lot of the old old applications used for shipping, receiving, label printing, etc would only run on the older machines. Although, this is all changing as we are rolling out all new (Dell) systems with XP. And it's been quite a hassle tracking down the proper patches and updates to get certain old software running.

Kind of off-topic, but another interesting point about the rollouts is that half of them seem to come with Sun Java and another half Microsoft VM. This has turned into a HUGE hassle as the Miles' main accounting and employee tracking software only works with MSVM. Fun stuff I tell ya :\

News flash: When you buy at the mall, the arist gets just as much, if not less of a percentage. At least Apple tells you the business model and where money guys, I'd like to see the RIAA make that information easily accessible.

Apple is doing it's best to try to wake the RIAA up to the new age, and some back scracthing will have to take place before any proress is made.

If you want a better deal, buy indie. Goto a show and hand your hard earned dollars directly to the hard working artitsts doing what they love. Cut out the middle man.

That's rather irrelevant. If you don't trust /. why do you bother using it at all? And since you do but seem to dislike it so much, why do you question its standards? And, of course, why trust any online store more than any other? Feel free the void the last question if you do a solid week of background checking before making any online purchases.

There is no reason for /. not to tie posts as Anonymous Coward to accounts. The poster is still "anonymous" to those reading the post. And just because they are tied to accounts does mean they are tied directly to posts that /. developers can see. For all you know the post is simply checked when submitted and then accredited to the account, but may very well not be recorded beyond that.
