You are playing a semantics game, nothing more. Do you feel better about yourself now? Reuse and Recycle are mostly interchangeable in the context we are discussing.
I have both a large screen and a projector, and while hi-def is nice, I grew up with tube TVs watching WKRP and Good Times. I dont NEED a source to be HD to enjoy it. Anything 480p or more is quite adequate for universal viewing. True HD is a merely one point in the spectrum of video, not the ultimate goal of all video. You will bankrupt yourself in the pursuit of perfect picture (apologies to Eisenhower)
Aviation GPS systems cost thousands of dollars to CERTIFY. The electronics are not that inherently different, its the total assemblage and testing that really sets it apart, not expensive physical hardware.
To extend your analogy, Lightsqured is licensed to emit a penlight sized beam into the patio. This is what they paid for and there was NO ambiguity about it. They knew exactly what they were buying. Lightsquared wants to use giant floodlights instead and ruin the party for everyone. The plain fact is, Lightsquared was never invited to this particular patio party in the first place, they are trying to crash.
If your first example is referring to the McDonads hot coffee case, it was proven in court that McDs kept the coffee at UNSAFE temperatures to maintain flavor. McDonalds was ultimately found 80% culpable, and the lady 20%. I really love the McDs case, it shows people's ignorance and willingness to believe hyperbole.
Your analogy based on physical properties is jsut plain wrong. Unathorized penetrating of the firewall is jsut like smashing a window. Its broken, and now someone has to come reglaze it properly. Or would your solution be to say well it was glass, someone would have broken it anyways, so why should the criminal have to pay for its repair?
TO me, the best of both worlds is an ipad with BT keyboard and VMWare View. I have no need to lug a laptop when i can thin client almost as effectively. Why bother carrying/digging out my laptop when i can be looking at a windows desktop in less then 10 seconds?
Because specialized labor to fix the problem costs nothing, amirite? Labor costs money. The labor to fix this kind of problem is close to or above the 6 figure/year range.
Causing a full security review after a known penetration costs REAL WORLD MONEY. You have to pay people for the expense of figuring out what happened. It is interesting that you disregard this aspect of the problem entirely. He had no business being there, flat out. There is no inherent right to crack other people's property. I find nothing wrong in the law saying 'thou shalt not penetrate others network without explicit permission or authority.' This person had neither.
Given the current political climate, do you REALLY think that is a wise avenue to be pursuing in 'public'?. O i see by your username that you have no common sense, continue
I totally disagree. As long as Im not passing fake notes as currency, it shouldnt be illegal to reproduce them. The crime should be USING THEM, not printing them.
Hes fucking right. The lassez-faire attitude about this on slashdot is pretty disgusting. This level of collusion between the govt and business to stop counterfeiting (which is not worth spying on every printer) is an abomination and lays the groundwork for much worse. Im sorry you dont have the imagination to see the end game to this.
This is the biggest reason i dont even look at AMD anymore. My Intel i5 is almost completely silent with a stock cooler and is fast as hell. The computer before this had a H50 hydro coller and after i realized how quiet the i5 was i didnt even bother putting the H50 on. An equivalent AMD would be hotter, require more power, slower and make more fan noise.
I play video games every day, most notably TF2 currently. I also played WoW (raided Vanilla to Tier 11) for years and before that all the way back to Atari 2600 and Pong, , Zork,MUDs. I owned a full size stand-up operational Asteroids arcade game in my bedroom from the 4th to tenth grades. I bought it for $100 after the great video game crash of '82, sold it for an order of magnitude more years years later. I own every modern console, all day-one release purchases.
If you had noted my careful use of the term 'REQUIRE', you might not have responded. Playing video games does not REQUIRE concentration. I can happily and mindlessly run around 2fort in TF2 with my pyro mostly on autopilot and have a blast (no pun intended). You took my statement as an affront to gamers, when instead i was pointing out there are levels to immersion. Please keep in mind how this all relates to the poster i responded to.
In SOME places, not MOST.
You are assuming there is gravity....

Because downloading a 200 MB DRIVER/BLOATWARE package from HP is a MUCH better solution......
Yet sales is allowed to chest thump to their heart's content. It sucks being both mission critical and a revenue sink.
The lack of USB 3.0 would be more tolerable if we had affordable Thunderbolt HDD enclosures.
and as the decibels of this disenchanting discourse continue to dampen the day......

I cant get more then 30MB/s out of USB 2.0, ever. Hell my NAS over gigabit is faster then USB 2.0

"If you do not have a signed contract with the company you can and SHOULD be prosecuted." FTFY

We are now at the "to bake a cake from scratch, one first invent the universe" stage of the argument.

Xbox doesnt require concentration. Its an escape for most, not work.
