In a CPU/GPU package the odds of JUST the GPU failing are pretty small. Plus you save alot of money/space/power by not having to make a whole new PCB board for the GPU.
So why is it that my PSP can function while storing everything on the memory stick? Also your argument leaves out PSP GO, with 16 GB of internal memory that will show up as a mass storage device. Please explain why PSP can do it and Apple cant? Why cant apple put the OS on the device in roughly the same way Sony handled the PSP? The short answer THEY DONT WANT TO. Dont come to me and say its impossible becasue its not. It was a design decision from the beginning.
Not trying to be down on you, but the word 'magically' is out of place in a discussion about the fundamentals of the cosmos. The reality of the universe is FAR more interesting then any 'magic'
It was NOT a practical necessity. Why is it that EVERYONE ELSE can do it but Apple? My PSP presents as a mass storage device when i set it in usb mode and it has a standalone smart OS too..
I read up on some 2k forum devs saying that the GFW activation limit is 15+, and you can get it reset easily. Securom only does a disc check. I'm not playing devil's advocate, jsut saying they seemed to have relaxed the DRM a bit this time around.
I think the point hes making is why arent we seeing this on the hardware level? A large spinning disk plus a reasonable SSD (5-10 GB) module sounds like a great compromise for the near term future.

I kept hoping that there would be some star systems that you could only reach once you upgraded fuel. I was disappointed.
Xbox is FAR more profitable then Wii overall. Wii owners attach rate is horrible, not to mention the Live Marketplacestore does alot more volume. Wii is popular and made a slight profit on every unit sold, but they arent generating the long tail cash like the LIVE is.
The game is broadcast FREE OF CHARGE over the air, all claims to who/what/when/where/how it can be viewed should be moot. ANYONE with the capable hardware can watch it, for free. For the NFL to say we can restrict what you do with it regarding receiving the LIVE signal and displaying it is utterly retarded (in the context we are referring to). You broadcast it in the clear, you should lose ALL claims of control during the live broadcast itself. Timeshifting etc are other arguments, lets stay focused on the live 'party' context.
All of that is fine. It still doesnt change the fact that it is infinitely easier IN THE PRACTICAL WORLD, to maintain and use a dual boot/disk system if you want to play the newest games, rather then trying to shoehorn it into a platform that isnt supported. If you dont want to dual boot, use a removable tray option, this isnt an insane idea. Its fine if you want to use linux for gaming, but please dont ask game companies to waste dev time on your niche market. I love OSS, i love the idea of it, but i also realize there will always be commercial software.
You'll muck around in a text file for 3 hours to fix something in linux but god forbid you reboot and run another OS just for gaming.
Ill never understand this. If you are technical enough to install and run Linux and use wine, then you are most certainly technical enough to install a windows partition to play games on. Hell, get a removable drive and just swap disks. Its not freaking hard, why do Linux people have to make it hard? Its like saying "instead of buying an xbox im gonna run it via somewhat functional emulators on PC, and then bitch becasue its not commercially supported." You have the hardware that is capable of doing it, did you forget that you can change things up to get optimal results? I'm no fan of DRM, but i really wish the linux gaming nerds would STFU and get with the program if they want to play the newest/popular games.
Thats fine for a consumer level, single-purpose device (that can handle many formats, physical and for lack of a better term 'digital') A computer UI is a much different beast used for FAR more intricate uses.
Not only that Apple has the fucking gall to want you to buy their product if you want to get fullscreen. Not to mention it likes to take over ALL video. I finally gave up after years of installing and uninstalling it and now i just do without quicklime. Its jsut not worth it to see a trailer or something. I hate fucking quicktime and their bullshit decisions instead of just being a decent media player.
One thing id like to add, especially to your first point is the accompanying sound they add to each fingerprint miss and pretty much any time there is motion in the UI. Your computer UI would be intolerable if it made sounds with the frequency (no pun intended) that movie UIs do.

Voodoo2 had pass through too. Voodoo 2 SLI + S3 Virge VGA w/ passthourghs = wiring nightmare in the back of the case.
Cellphones in that range typically cost $500.00 or more before subsidy.
So you are saying my Harmon/Kardon receiver is now classified with the low grade Sony's becasue i happened to get it for $100 off at best buy?
By free DLC do you mean little bits like armor or maybe a room? Yeah, great value there......

Its ironic that we use the term Heisenberg to denote uncertainty, considering how very right he was.

It still might. Apple is treading into dirty water here.

Space and time are one. The more accurately we can measure time, the more accurately we can measure space.
Just wanted to add that The Man From Earth is available on Netflix streaming and disc.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity

Pretty sure hes not counting Nemesis, which was just terrible.
Late 70's Friebird/Trans Am had a huge motor in it and was slow as hell. Big engine doesn't always equal big usable power.
