Whether you like or loathe sony, there is no denying the PS3 is an incredible piece of hardware. While its market positioning may not be the best (gaming console trying to be high end home theater jack of all trades), it is an outstandingly well engineered home entertainment device. Anyone that dares say its overpriced has no concept of value and cannot see the whole picture. Its high price is very well justified by its much broader level of functionality compared to the competition. Game politics aside, the machine itself is killer.
Disclaimer: I own all 4 modern gaming systems, I regularly compare 360 to PS3 to PC on dual 24" 1980x1200 monitors, please save us some time dont attempt to undermine my credibility or call me a fanboy in this instance.
Monetization usually is followed by lawsuits to protect said monetization effort. "O you are working on a mod for our game? Looks great, now cease and desist while we take your idea for free and sue you for using our IP in a way that displeases us(doesnt make us money)."
Do you really want a game developer thinking "How can i put in the least amount of content possible to shift X amount of units and then 'monetize' my installed base by selling them content that should have been included in the first place or offering in game advantages?"
The difference is integrity. The game companies are going to sell every last bit of it. You cannot make a game, and then offer cash advantages and maintain your integrity. At least in my eyes and wallet.
This is exactly why my PS3 gets far more use then my 360. I get so annoyed by MS and their "You have to charge for ANY DLC, and WE(MS) set the prices"
PS3 wins on so many fronts. Ability to add user made content for free (UTIII allows any mods), KB/mouse supported (MS refuses to allow mouse moving), free online gaming forever, ability to use ANY standard 2.5" sata drive, built in wireless vs a $100 (i could kick them for this one) wifi adapter, ability to use MANY types of steering wheels, not just the horrible MS one. Alot of people point to LIVE as being great but I jsut dont see how its leaps and bounds over the free PS3 multiplayer. I get on, i shoot people, i log off. I dont feel like im missing anything that LIVE offers(except the absence of a retarded 12 year old screaming in my ear).
Harming another individual simply for fun is evil. Physically and mentally abusing your wife is evil.
Those are good examples of evil, not copyright infringement.
You do know that quote came from Stan Lee directly right and was used in several instances in his comics, not just spidey? Its not quoting a movie, but a sentiment from a man who has spent his life weighing good vs. evil in MANY MANY contexts. I think it is a qualified statement from an educated and well thought out perspective. You cannot deny the truth in it.
I think your definition of 'truly evil' is a bit skewed. There is nothing 'truly' evil about making a buck on the back of someone else. Immoral, wrong, parasitic, all those things yes, but not 'evil'
While I agree you should get paid, I dont agree that the only way to see your work is to be paid. What if i want to lend it to my friend, would you be mad at that too? I get why you want to be paid, what i dont get is why you feel slighted if someone who would have NEVER bought your product, uses it anyways? What have you lost? And also jsut as important, what have you gained? (word of mouth, loyalty, possibility of purchasing future releases)
Seriously? I didnt even finish Halo 3. I got to the impossible flood levels, you know the ones where you have to jsut run through... after about 10 tries of attempting to kill everything then realizing most people have to just run through, I ejected the disk, chucked it across the room and laid a curse upon Bungie/MS.
Not necessarily. These commercials represent PANIC at MS. Panic leads to change. Not always good change, but any change out of MS right now would be great. I am still waiting for them to drop the price on Vista, a big sign of weakness.
Number one answer off the top of my head is, to ensure the survival of the human race. We live in a single completely connected and integrated biosphere. One big enough space rock or virulent enough virus and we all die. Mars can be the insurance policy for the human race.
Ahhh good to know, I was just going to play it again from the beginning with my 360 copy. I assumed that the overheat bug was a form of game degradation copy protection that was tried a few years back. I had heard alot of noise about the Mass Effect DRM, but didnt really look into it (like I am w/ Spore, fuck EA and shame on Will Wright for allowing it). Anyways, thx for the info, saves me from having to play renegade over again.
The fixed executables dont always work. There is one that makes it impossible to use the navigation screen. And another that causes my weapons to overheat and stay overheated for the remainder of the final fight with Saren.
Disclaimer: I own Mass Effect for 360, but never got around to playing it, so i pirated the PC version. Sue me.
Copyright infringement needs some defending. Companies fight over the bottom line only, while the customers are saddled with morals. Its sad that companies can twist the law anyway they choose, but when an individual does it, its bad. Whats that old saying "Kill one man, and you are a murderer. Kill millions of men, and you are a conqueror. Kill them all, and you are a god"
Its called a government limited monopoly. ATT has paid the US (taxpayers) to license the use of the public airwaves. How can ATT expect to make use of said investment if every joe-six pack believes he has some right to something his government already sold (licensed). ATT bought and paid for use of those airwaves, legally. Just because that money didnt arrive directly in your bank account doesnt make ATTs investment any less real.
Im not saying its right, or I agree, but its the reality of the situation.
It does NOT cost $20,000 to send a few megabytes of data on a network in use by millions. No telecomm bill for a single, consumer grade line should be allowed to be billed at that rate.

I paid $25 to transfer a character, am i bad?

Monoprice also sells a cable for approx. $12 that connects to all 3 modern consoles (PS3, 360 and Wii) with component connections
SO $120 in halo games + (2) $50/year Live accounts will make it fun? Or did you mean split screen, which was fun back in the 90s.......

The reason being is that copyright law was setup to fight off larger scale pirate operations, back when reproducing material was alot harder.

Its pronounced as 'litch', I have mod points and I wasted the opportunity to mod in this thread to tell you that.
Its not right for the owners to try to deprive me right of first sale.

I downloaded my game patch for Mass Effect from GAmecopyworld......

Thats why accounts are usually separated into consumer and business class plans...

Hiring a lawyer should not be the normal part of signing a consumer grade phone contract. A house is another league altogether.
