Nope, in pro too. You have to uninstall or sign in to OneDrive to make it go away. The ad we are talking about is OneDrive nags you in file explorer if you dont have it setup/signed in. That is an unprecedented move for MS.
They absolutely can. We use GPU distortion correction to eliminate/reduce chromatic aberration in Virtual Reality sets, not to mention warping the image to fit the lens. The last gen of Nvidia cards came with a feature that allows all kinds of fun display warping effects. For example if you have 3 monitors, you can now adjust the perspective to be correct on each individual panel, allowing for a more immersive experience.
Yeah, i got the 'its politics/power' vibe when the Santa Monica PD set up a stop and started pulling over people on the beach sidewalk for riding these without a helmet. Generally no one cares what you're doing on the beach as long you aren't hurting anyone so them setting up a dragnet was weird. I didnt know about the buses, but that all adds up.
Its outright wrong to push public transport accessibility onto CLOSED platforms. Those users can use the goddamn browser on their device if needed, there is a reason we spent so much time perfecting it.. Allowing this transition to closed platforms is absolutely insane and it shocks me i have to explain this on slashdot. It creates a barrier to entry to the most vulnerable people. Before you could at least go to the Library to access it. You cant put public infrastructure onto closed platforms.
IN CA, Metrolink already has moved to apps or physical kiosks for payment only, cant do it over the web at all. Its absolutely disgusting. I had to call to find how much a monthly pass was between two points because they locked that info up in the app and removed it form the web. Public infrastructure should not be distributing exes ONLY to closed stores. There is absolutely no reason for public infrastructure to deploy apps to closed stores. We are on a terrible road.
Its already legal to ride e-bikes on sidewalks (where bikes are allowed). The thing that makes these run afoul of the law is that they dont have any pedals. Ebikes are required to have a functional pedal set. Without it, CA considers powered scooters to be a motorcycle.
Pointless. Phones are not anywhere near reliable or accurate enough to be used as a real emergency responder like this without some backup methods. You want crash detection with signaling, you buy a fucking dedicated beacon with satellite comms. I dont go out biking without actually communicating to another human my ride path and i inform them they are now my "Alert" contact for the duration of my ride. Even that has failed occasionally. Alert status is a hell of a lot more work than simply installing an app on your phone, its a process with many steps.
There is nothing 'antiquated' about Windows 7. Its a rock-solid OS and markedly different from its replacement, especially form a professional standpoint. Honestly, Microsoft should be forced to continue to update FOR AS LONG AS THEY HOLD THE COPYRIGHT ON IT.
So you honestly think that getting software from only on place is the best possible future? Android NEEDS to get programs from places other than google. Why are you cheering this crap on. The faster we break people's complete dependance on Google Play, the better off we will all be.
" Prices for things are set by what the market will bear, not how much it cost to produce"
When every human on Earth is fed, clothed, sheltered, educated and entertained, THEN you can have this. Until such a time as that, capitalism in this form is absolutely immoral. Price should ALWAYS be tied to cost to produce or all we have is a world constantly looking to fuck each other over. We would get a hell of a lot farther if we put at least some controls on greed.
>Though parts of them may be unenforcable, try copying Microsoft Office and distributing it and then telling Microsoft and see how far it gets you in court.
You do NOT need two-way comms to use GPS. Its trivial to store a map and then have the GPS receiver plug in dots on the map, all done locally. There is zero NEED to have location tracking on at all times.
>. Google Maps has to request maps from your current location
You can store maps for offline use, everything to make GPS and maps functional can be done without continuously tracking the user.
This was the final straw, but a huge part of my decision is that they refuse to allow any UI controls on the service for the user to arrange and set the UI and choices they want.. Its become TV 2.0. "You get what we want you to see"
My heart wants to agree with you, but my head knows better. You cant control where the people go, and the underlying layer of the internet is intact. I could set up direct comms to your LAN right now, trivially.

Oculus is building its standalone 'Santa Cruz' model to have built-in SLAM, using 4 cameras. Microsoft uses a decent 2-camera implementation of it on its 'Mixed Reality' sets. The tracking is astonishingly good for a two camera solution, the only real weakness being the controllers esp. hand presence..
The solutions you come up for each discipline will generally help the other.
To be fair, Microsoft is offering engineering support to help any program that works on Win 7 to work on Win 10.

You can disable all of that. I dont allow windows to message me, at all.

Having the sum total of mankind's knowledge in your pocket is a heady drug.

The problem is Android apps expect Chrome. Amazon cant show me where my driver is on my phone because i have Firefox as default.

Users really really need to get software from places other than google.

This is a 'Eugenic' view of life. My purpose is not to serve society.

You are describing copyright law, not a EULA.

No sympathy for scum like this.

On slashdot 'unlock' means root.

What you are referring to is called SLAM.

Not by me or to my standards, and you have provided no links or other data to backup your statement.
