The past had plenty of movies that were terrible. We just forget about them because, well, because they're forgettable. It's not like every movie was The Godfather or Pulp Fiction or whatever movie you have in your top 5. 99% of them sucked, in every decade. Memory wipes out the bad ones and reminds you of the good ones.
If I want a great story, I'll read a book. Sure, some movies have both - great acting/visuals AND a great story, but those are rare, and always have been. Given the choice between one or the other, I'll take the Force Awakens over the acting mess that was the prequels. I'm in that theater for 2 hours to be entertained. The god-awful acting and dialogue in those three prequels took me right out of the story anyway. I found myself not caring about any of it. At least this new one kept me interested. That's more than 90% of all new releases are able to accomplish. I'll take it.
The difference is, he came to read a discussion about Star Wars, and saw some asshole saying he'll only watch the new movie so that he can complain about it. He didn't come in here specifically to comment on what a huge douchebag you are (nor did I), but after reading that comment, it's the appropriate response to let you know what a douchebag you are. After all, there's a small chance we might help you realize why you have no friends.
That's where your attempt to project your own loser behavior onto him falls apart.
Syria's military is a joke compared to that of the USA, and the rebels still can't win their rebellion. Just because some third-world shithole rebellion results in a change in government, you think that's applicable here? "It's not the same ballpark, it's not the same league, it's not even the same fuckin' sport."
I actually served in the military, unlike you, so I'll take a stab at this one: because that's the oath that every volunteer takes when they enter. Despite what you think about how they vote, our military is, in fact, for the most part very professional and officers and enlisted alike take their jobs very seriously, including that whole thing about following orders, the chain of command, and that chain ending with the president.
Your fantasy about the military opposing a Democratic president is a product of a mind twisted by right-wing blogs and fed its own opinions in an endless echo chamber. The real military is quite different, I assure you.
The US military, or at least a sizable number of them, would likely have sympathy for a rebellion against tyranny.
You have no idea what you're talking about, and obviously never served in the US military. As a former member, allow me to inform you: the vast majority of military officers AND enlisted are very pro-law-and-order, and don't take their oath to carry out orders lightly. You're living in the same delirious world as those idiots in Oregon - the "once the rebellion starts, the masses will join us!" fantasy.
Depends what you mean by the best. They're the best at giving people unhealthy fast food and plastic junk made in China at the lowest price possible. That's why demand is so high. So while you could argue with his premise, your comeback is actually not that logical.
I needed my car's airbag the most that one time it went off when I was in an accident.
So what was your one time you needed your gun the most? That time you were fantasizing about shooting a home invader dead, or that time you were fantasizing about stopping a mass murderer in the mall?
I loved buying Maxell XL-IIS blanks. That being said, I can't see buying and making tapes today. It'd be like buying an old Polaroid camera... oh wait I did that
Oh right, only "liberals" are against IS. And when you switched to Trump, it's the "Western establishment", because you know that conservatives are also against Trump.
If you're going to spout nonsense in your political tangents, at least try to be consistent.
Welcome to the modern face of "social justice" where if they don't get what they want, they'll make shit up or attack people.
The "modern face"? When in history has there not been an organization that made shit up or attacked people in order to get what they want?
Of course, you're not just using this as a pretext to attack your favorite boogeyman of the moment, the mythical "social justice warrior", are you? Because that would be stupid.
I served 8 years in my nation's armed forces, asshole. Not that you're reading this, but I wanted to illustrate for anyone else who might be: those who talk about "the freedom that some of us are willing to fight for" never fought for fucking anything. Because I don't know a single person I served with that would ever utter that stupid cliche. We all know better.
Gary Webb: committed suicide, conspiracy theorists believe he was killed in retribution for suggesting the CIA had a hand in the crack-cocaine trade in LA. Of course, he was "killed" 8 years after the entire story had faded into obscurity, partly because Webb had made a lot of it up.
Thomas Drake: whistleblower, reportedly an inspiration to Edward Snowden. Still alive, still talking about his case and what went down. Hardly silenced by any stretch of the word's definition. If anything, an example that works against your crackpot theory, not for it.
After reading up on those two, I really don't care to waste time on the other two. You're a nut. That's it.
This person did something illegal, the car did was it was programmed to do, and they got caught. Show me an example, real-world, where a car calls the authorities and the person is unjustly imprisoned as a result.
It's complete hyperbole to call this "If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear". It's not the same thing at all.
Here's the real problem. Hit-and-run drivers *should* be caught and prosecuted, but I don't like any of the automated ways to do this. And, to be honest, I also don't like many of the manual ways to do this.
So, in effect, you just said that although they should be prosecuted, you don't want them to be, most of the time. Unless they turn themselves in, I guess.

It's you and every other person that thinks things should just stay the same as they were when you were in the prime of your life.
Come to think of it, there's probably millions of you guys, but fortunately you're all more than halfway done with your lifespan.

How do you figure? Any armed rebellion would be swiftly crushed, thus cementing the politicians' hold on power.
The US military, or at least a sizable number of them, would likely have sympathy for a rebellion against tyranny.

You could be dead tomorrow, and the US government will still be here. Who's right now?
Depends what you mean by the best. They're the best at giving people unhealthy fast food and plastic junk made in China at the lowest price possible. That's why demand is so high. So while you could argue with his premise, your comeback is actually not that logical.
yeah, like I figured, only in your fantasies of using your gun to be a superhero. here's a news flash - it's never gonna happen.
I needed my car's airbag the most that one time it went off when I was in an accident.

It'd be great if commenters would just fill the top of these comments with how great the other services are.
How great is it that they spelled it wrong but got the letter count of the correct spelling?
I loved buying Maxell XL-IIS blanks. That being said, I can't see buying and making tapes today. It'd be like buying an old Polaroid camera... oh wait I did that
Nice work!
Maybe I am just being grinchy,
"maybe"?
Nice reliable sources you've got there.
