So, this whole thing is publicity for the church. They just got information about Mormonism to be actively sought out by thousands, and what those thousands found isn't bad at all.

I have a 12 minute drive to work. Assuming I don't change the speed I drive at, tomorrows drive will also be 12 minutes. Now, there are certainly things that could change that, a flat tire, an accident or construction blocking my normal route, that sort of thing, but it would be crazy for me to expect that the commute that takes me 12 minutes is going to suddenly take 10 or 15 for no apparent reason.

Clearly not to all of them, just like how not every two bit burglar ends up at Masterlock. Abagnale was on the run for years, held a number of jobs that folks hold in the highest esteem as far as knowledge and ability are concerned, escaped from prison by posing as a prison inspector and walking out, escaped an FBI sting by asking for directions, and, personal chutzpah aside, invented a never-before seen method of check fraud. He may have been caught, but he's not stupid, and he's the right type of guy to give this kind of opportunity.

I'm sorry, my post didn't include the word "should". Yes, lots of people should know what to look for to catch check fraud or counterfeit money. My question was who -does- know, and the answer is the criminals for whom getting it right wasn't the difference between passing and failing a test, it was the difference between freedom and prison.

Also, I think you're missing a critical point of the whole "shows with an education veneer". Kids will end up learning from them anyways. Dense and boring is going to teach them less than fluff-filled and interesting. Make it fun, and the kids will seek out education on their own, which is good, because you're not always going to be there to answer questions.

The difference is that you know who's sending junk mail. If people send junk mail, and put a false return address on the envelope, it's mail fraud, and the penalties for this many counts of mail fraud would be way worse than just 9 years in prison. If I want to send out thousands of e-mails from my e-mail address, that's not against the law, as I understand it.
