It's an elegant way to ignore all comments with trait 'a' (disagree with the desired outcome), by selectively excluding comments with trait 'b' (not written by a lawyer). That the traits have strong presentation-correlation is 'purely accidental.'
this isn't an open vote. It's a deliberative process that weighs a lot of different factors to create policy that balances the interests of big business
Next time you're on a grocery run, at the checkout, offer a 50% bonus to the store. Despite that they don't 'require' this, a failure to do so might mean that you are showing lack of appreciation for the organisation which is responsible in part for your nourishment. What? Don't want to? Only want to pay the actual bill? Well then....
Then, according to your own (extremely faulty) logic, there's no reason for hostility, as a worthless amount of tax is lost.
On the other hand, it makes a difference to the person being taxed.
It is every citizen's responsibility to pay as little tax as possible, without straying outside the rules. After all, we have zero oversight on how these tax <generalized currency unit>s are spent.
But Tim Cook said "we comply not only with every law, but the spirit of the law". Here, laws were changed to try to force Apple to pay more tax, and all they did was went and found another loophole instead. Thus, they didn't comply with "the spirit" at all. Apple said that their tax bill didn't go down for all this, but they didn't say it went up either.
With a context consisting solely of the above paragraph, I would disagree with your conclusion. If laws were changed to specifically target Apple (is this even legal?), iFruit *have* responded in spirit by taking steps to avoid these targeted 'rules'. The spirit being one of a thinly-veiled 'screw you.'
Turns out, telling people how to live and ruining lives because of possession of certain plants is mighty expensive
Governments should lead by example. Unless the message is that citizens should interfere in everyone's business, attempt to control all resources using force, etc. etc. etc.., you're doing it wrong.

This is your boss. I would rather not see your unshaven sullen face and crumpled closing that was cast-off by a hobo sometimes during 80s, however I have to drag myself to the office like you every day just to make sure you don't slack all day. You can't be trusted to work on your own, that why you have to sit in traffic every day.
Another of your employees here.
If you did all the work you took the financial credit for, you wouldn't be in this difficult predicament.
Once workers could communicate with their colleagues through instant messages and video chat, he reasoned, there would be little coherent purpose to trudge long distances to work side by side in centrally located office spaces.
Prescience fail. All those seats aren't going to warm themselves ^_^
The lack of understanding of many emoticons without prior exposure or explanation I thought was a well understood problem. Did we really need a study to tell us this?
You're right, dammit!
I propose a study to determine which studies are necessary.
So, the the meta-story here is: noone knows anything worth writing about? Glad this was covered so well.

Free market in action?
We are agreed.
So, about five years?
Charlton Heston, is that you?
Uhh, who? You mean public employees serving the citizens?
Stock value goes to zero :/
They are on /. to the extent that it's challenging to find the actual discussion.
the phrase least likely to appear when there is certainty.
Not creepy at all.

As government concentrate wealth and power, they are a natural target for subversion.
Want to get ahead in a new market? Persuade your local government official to introduce a new compliance rule which drives customers to your door.
We are on sale by government to anyone with money.

'Long lunch' ?
How is this any different to the office? (maybe with the exception of daycare.)
