There's no excuse for not using suspects fingerprints in this way, so long as they have legally obtained a search warrant. It's certainly no different than breaking a lock to enter someone's home. I believe this is mostly going to affect poorly educated criminals like drug dealers, petty thieves, and such. Anyone with half a brain would not rely on a simple phone lock to encrypt their data in the first place. It's so trivial to do, those who don't really must be the worst, most obnoxious criminals out there.

Twitter was already way behind technologically when it launched, and now is just a joke. SMS is dead. The notion of these arbitrary character limitations make no sense in 2016. I hope more than anything to see Twitter go bankrupt very soon. The fact that so-called "journalists" treat Twitter as an actual source of news is downright shameful. Our technology has advanced so far beyond this that there is absolutely no excuse for it in this day and age.
This, exactly this! Yes, as others have pointed out, there's a lot of shitty code produced by Western programmers, but the amount produced by Indian programmers is a much higher percentage. Perhaps it's because of the extreme pressure they're under to work quickly. Oh, and forget about testing... Unit testing, functional testing...nope. Just get it out the door!
The dollar sign comes *before* the number. That is the difference you get with a native English-speaking developer. That's not always required, but you have *no* idea the extent to which people complain about you guys and your incompetence when it comes to language. You're definitely good for fulfilling certain specific tasks...busywork, mostly. You just have to be explicitly directed like a little puppy, told every specific thing to do and how to do it. No ability to think on your own. If that's the kind of life you want to lead, then congratulations!
I fail to see how one user's discovery of a little network utility in their proprietary operating system of choice is really worthy of being on the front page of Slashdot... If this were a Mac-centric blog, then I suppose I could understand it, but not here...

This is what your company deserves for using proprietary, closed-source software with restrictive licenses. I wish this would help ruin more companies so that more people would hear the story of how disgusting the for-profit software industry really is, and choose to use Free Software.

Don't most people take Algebra II in Junior High? I skipped it entirely myself... What level of maths do most U.S. high schools require? If it's not even Algebra II then I would say that's yet another sign of how pathetic the U.S. education system has become. Personally, I found Calculus to be one of the most beneficial, eye-opening maths classes I had in high school and think every student should be required to complete it. It can be used in so many different scenarios and yet still most people graduate from high school thinking all but basic math is useless!
If the music companies don't provide it, then I will get it elsewhere. If they don't get with the program and offer a permanent license to full-quality audio, that is not my problem. I agree with OP--there is no excuse for mp3s in this day and age!

Then again, this is the U.S. we're talking about, where the government had to pay people just so that they wouldn't lose their precious TV when switching to digital.

I realize most people are thinking the same thing, but it needs to be said... What were the creators of this site thinking, using Flash? It just makes no sense to me. Was there no thought put into it at all? Are there actually Linux users/advocates out there who do not hate Flash?
In my opinion, being Linux-friendly *cannot* exclude being Open-Source and GPL-friendly, as these are really the heart and soul of Linux. Releasing a free *license* is not like releasing the source code. This should not be applauded.
I'm glad I don't work in your office, or have to pay the software bill every couple years MS decides to release a new version merely to read all the proprietary formats. Seriously--working in that kind of environment would be so miserable.
You don't think that people who are residents only of the U.S. exist? Do you think the entire American continent (North and South) is like one country? Do you realize that outside of the U.S. and Canada, everyone else on this continent thinks it is ONE continent called America, not two separate ones? You could also compare it to the phrase "British accent" which is entirely meaningless, considering the wide variation in accents between Scotland, England, Wales, etc. If you can find a Scot who is actually proud to be British (hard to find, I realize!), I could see them being quite offended at people calling an English accent "British" as if it represented the entire country.
Similarly, an "American Accent" is Spanish-speaking accent, as that is the language spoken by the majority of Americans, though I could imagine a few people in the U.S. who wouldn't be happy about this.
The traditional TV networks, recording companies, movie producers, etc. are *never* going to give up their business model. EVER. They are dinosaurs and simply will not change. It's futile to think that they will. The only option is for them to go out of business. They will, of course, but it's going to be a long wait, unfortunately. They will continue to fight us at every turn, but eventually, they will be gone. Until then, our job is to hang in there, continue to support independent projects, use torrents so that they lose advertising revenue, and teach as many people as we know to do the same.
