Team Viewer 5 does this. You send the person a link, or verbally tell them the URL over the phone. It downloads an EXE file, they run it. The program gives them some numbers they read off to you, and you connect using those numbers. Done! I use it a lot for helping friends/family.

I got a bunch of horrified responses, but mostly people caught on. Flash forward 2 years. We merged our Active Directory domain with out head office, and the password requirements shot up (not as much as I said in my e-mail, but more then users were used to). Also we all got ID/swipe cards, although as of yet we don't use them for anything other then looking pretty.

Rogers has already announced everyone with one of these handsets will be getting one month of free data service. However, I don't think it's right Rogers has cutoff our data in order to force us to update. I have a rooted magic running a 1.6 rom which is immune to this 911 problem. They want me to reflash back to their 1.5rom, which co-incidentally they loaded a new SPL into that is currently unbreakable, so we can't even flash back to another rom after. Brief history: -Rogers announces there is a critical problem with 911 on dream and magic phones. The issue is related to GPS trying to send your location when you call 911. -Rogers advises customers to disable GPS until they issue a fix. -Rogers releases a new ROM that fixes the issue, they say if you don't update to it within a day or so, your internet access will be cut off (this also allows 911 calls to go through since it can't try to transmit your location)

One massive improvement Vista made to file copying over XP, is in relation to the prompting. In XP, if you start a file copy, say it's 20 gigs and thousands of files. You start it, and walk away as it will take a couple hours. You come back two hours later to see it as 3% done, with a prompt asking you something. FAIL. On Vista/7, with the same scenario, you come back to a prompt, but it's at 97% complete, because it did everything that didn't conflict first, and then prompted you at the end for the conflicts. WIN.

The first line of this summary is quite wrong. Intel has LOTS of Core2Duo's that do not support Intel VT. A quick look through their processor matrix will confirm this. Still, it's common practise for laptop manufacturers to disable things like VT on their consumer models. My Toshiba satellite has it disabled (not changeable in BIOS), but the pro version of it (same mainboard and cpu) has the option. I'm sure there is some way to get it working via a hex editor or something, but then we're into voiding warranties (if the bios gets fubared).

Agreed, this is a non issue, or at worst, a very tiny issue. If they have prexisting hardware or software glitches, it might blue screen on them. For the 90% of consumers who would never run chkdsk, and who don't have more then one parition, this is a complete non-issue.

I never had video card issues with D3 either. not sure if I am in the minority or what, but it ran great on both my Voodoo3 and later ATI video cards, I think I ran it in D3d mode after I upgraded past the Voodoo3. I'm a little confused. I have a htpc/media center, and when I get a movie that has been compresed into multi-part rar files, I simply extract it to it's original file. If you have WinRar installed it's a simple right click, and pick extract here or extract to subfolder. One click, seems pretty simple. I fail to see how this is a critical feature to add to VLC. It seems simple to me to just setup something to automatically extract the rar's if you are too lazy to do that single click yourself. Of course I can't speak for everyones situation, there might be situations where this isn't possible, but to be it just seems like bloat.

My office is the exchange office, and I've got about 15% of our 60 users switched to Google Apps. So far our biggest issue is contacts. There is no good way to do shared address lists (at least in the education edition). Since google doesn't have any good tools to help with outlook, we're using a 3rd party tool called oggsync. It allows us to sync contacts and calendars with outlook. A good chunck of our users will want to keep using outlook because they are so used to it, and some are on planes so often they will want offline access to compose messages. oggsync, and the other 3rd party programs currently can't do multiple contact lists though, they just lump everyone together which is a pain. online games use very little bandwidth to start with. even VOIP isn't using anywhere near the capacity of your connection, so you'd never get flagged. This will only affect those transfering large amounts of data, continuously. Things like torrents, streaming video, running servers (which violates your TOS anyway). Even when you are affected, your internet connection doesn't suddenly drop to some horribly slow speed. Your data will simply be given an importance of say 3 ouf of 5, instead of the normal 5 out of 5. So now, if Comcasts local node is so overloaded it has to decide which packet to route first, it will pick someone elses, and yours will be delayed a fraction of a second. This will repeatedly go on until there is no longer a bandwitch shortage. If this system is implemented properly, you'll notice almost zero difference in your connection when it happens.
