    IIRC, the clock bug affected only Windows 95 and Windows 98 OSR1. Windows 2000 was never affected.

    That is not the case. It is certainly *a* priority. It simply isn't "the most urgent" priority. Moreover, ensuring that Linux, for example, is easily usable by persons with disabilities is so far down *my* priorities list as to barely rate a mention.

    The attacker in this scenario can gain physical access to the computer(s) that are doing the crypto work. For him a more efficient process might look like this: (snip)

    You could get a lot more efficient than that.

    1. Group the stored messages by senders/recipients
    2. Select one (or several) PGP user to go after
    3. Visit the subject, inform him that his mother/wife/daughter is in custody, and that The Boys are going to work on her in five minutes
    4. ...
    5. Decrypt all of his past, present and future messages.

    Once your secrets get to a certain level of desirability, the strength of your crypto is never the weakest link.

    Well, it's not really a very good comparison because Apple is primarily a hardware company, or complete solutions if you will.

    Maybe you missed the last financial statement, but Apple is now an MP3-PLAYER COMPANY. The majority of Apple's revenue comes from Ipod sales.

    Yes, but the point is the government organization receiving these reports is HOMELAND SECURITY. In other words, that which everyone predicted has happened. Homeland Security is now handling day-to-day law enforcement -- but, unlike, say, your local PD or the FBI, Homeland Security doesn't answer to anyone. Homeland Security can literally do ANYTHING and you have no recourse.

    I've worked for operators in three different countries, and the only time I've ever heard a phone referred to as a "cell phone" was when talking to someone in or from the USA.
