I own legitimate copies of Civilization 4, but I have to install a crack so I can play it without the CD in the drive. Its not just the inconvenience of putting the CD in the drive but it is also wear and tear on my paid copy. As a paying customer I am being punished with DRM, and have to turn to 'pirating' tactics to enjoy my game without destroying it.
Who is going to bother hacking an O/S no one uses? This is the same reason Macs are more secure, there is less payout in hacking into it as there are far less people using them.
I cancelled my cable TV and kept my cable internet, and I still receive just over a dozen TV channels (including about 4 HD channels) over my 'internet only' cable line. Your mileage may vary depending on your cable company.
New games from 2007:
#1 "Civilizations IV: Beyond The Sword" - Massive expansion may as well be Civ 4.5, excellent features
#2 "Half Life 2: Episode 2" - Even though portal was more original and the first level of Ep2 was kind of boring, I had a great time with this and the final battle was worth the price of admission.
#3 "Portal" - Awesome atmosphere, excellent design, short but sweet
#4 "Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance" - nothing much new here, but this expansion revived SC for me.
#5 "Super Mario Galaxies" - This could have easily been #1 for me, but I didnt actually get a chance to play it that much
Old games I'm still playing:
#1 "Counter Strike: Source" - I've played this more than any other older game
#2 " Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines" - Hadn't played since early 2006, and jumped right back in
#3 "Gameboy version of Tetris" - I dug out my old Super Nintendo and Super Gameboy cartridge and played the hell out of this
#4 "Rainbow Six 3: RavenShield" - Terrorist hunt with friends on a lan game still is fun
#5 "Mario Kart 64" - fun.
Sounds like that shelter would be a great place to do some LAN gaming. Hell I would endure my house burning down for some great LAN gaming in the fire shelter! Fire oh noes! Team Fortress 2 all day and night for a month... YEAH!!
Its only a matter of time before major celestial objects are re-named after corporate brands and entities. Saturn is the only planet that keeps its original name, however (TM) is apendid to the planet's name just so people know they cannot use the name without permission.
Southern Bell, McDonald's, Vagisil, Entertainment Tonight, Michelin, Jack In The Box, Saturn(TM), United Parcel Service, Nike, Pepsi
I already have a DS as I mentioned in my original post, and I have done custom stuff on that as well with a programable GBA cart... and it wasnt as good as the PSP with custom firmware. I would go blind watching a movie on the DS... I think I will hang on to the DS in case any future games catch my interest, but seriously nothing beats a customized PSP, it can emulate virtually anything, including NES, SNES, GBA, and even DS emulation is in the works.
I bought a DS and a PSP both when they first came out. I will agree that with standard firmware the DS is better than the PSP, but with custom firmware, the PSP is much, much more interesting.
I am not a Sony fanboy (I dont like sony's in your face attitude or business practices), in fact quite the oposite I am a huge Nintendo fan, I have owned every Nintendo system (except the virtual boy), going back to the 'game and watch' and 'table top arcade' games (I had Donkey Kong).
In my opinion the PSP is just a better piece of hardware. I suggest picking up a PSP cheap from eBay, from all those that are rushing to sell their PSP to play brain age, put custom firmware on it, get an $80 4GB memory card, and enjoy all the endless homebrew apps.
1st problem: Developer and/or Publisher fail to commit to the series over the long haul, for example Ritual entertainment was sold off before a second episode of SIN could be made, its a shame to because the first episode was pretty good in my opinion. I basically feel ripped off that I paid for SIN: Emergence, and will never get to complete the full game.
2nd problem: Episodic games are not being delivered in a timely manner. If I am going to pay a premium for continous episodes... I want one every 6 months or less. If the developers can't release an episode every 6 months or less, just make a regular non-episodic game.
If you have cable internet and cable tv, just cancel your cable tv and you will likely still get 6 or 7 of your main network chanels. I'm fine with the 3 (or 4 if you count fox) networks... I dont need the food channel or CNN... the 6, and 11 oclock news is good enough. Any other crazy specialty shows you might like can be found on the internet, through your fancy high speed cable internet.
I for one welcome our current overlords in the whitehouse. I am 100% backing the doctorines and policies of our current leaders in office, of whatever country I happen to be in at the moment. I despise all for which their political opponents stand for. My ideaoligies only change when crossing borders, or after elections/coup.:D
AI might not be designed from scratch at all... but as an emulation of the physical human brain, but with machine speed, memory, and storage capacity. If this is the way singularity happens, for better or for worse we will have to deal with machines that have feelings.
Left 4 Dead FTW. Best co-op experience ever... best game of 2008.

I for one bow down to our new Orange Box overlords.

If you want to boycott Chinese products all together, head to the nearest forest, take off all your clothes, and live like Tarzan in the wilderness.

Now I can prove mathematically that there is a version of the universe where I scored with that hot supermodel!

Damn you beat me to the punch... I was thinking the same thing.
Two words... DEATH STAR! :D
