    I predict that eventually Wine will provide an alternate upgrade path to DX10 for people who don't want Vista. I could be wrong, but I really like the idea of being right. To be clear, I'm talking about people upgrading from XP to Linux, not running Wine in Cygwin on XP.

    Its going to take them a while to get the kinks out. Not to mention its going to be slower and some hardware might not have drivers. Besides DX10 I dont know why id buy this. And this PC isnt going to be able to run DX10.

    Directx 10. They could have put out an XP version. (of course that doesnt sell CDs) You will need DX10 for upcoming games. Security updates (there still must be holes). Besides that I say wait as long as you can.

    Lightfleet is doing the opposite: using lenses to spread out laser beams and bounce the light off a mirror to send data around a system.

    Sounds fragile, and expensive.

    Though if they could somehow manipulate the dna to create brainless bodies, those could be used as warming bags. You would put a few of them here and there in your home to heat it up. They would be connected to a food and waste facility. And with an intact immune-system and other body functions they would be maintainance free.

    You couldnt give that away in Siberia.

    Legality aside, they must know they will never eliminate this utility. DVD Decrypter is still easy enough to find. And that is something a lot of people might be interested in compared to the number of people who actually own a HD Disc.

    Although... a terrorist would probably be using money that hasn't been in wide circulation - perhaps we could spot them by seeing if too much money any individual is carrying is devoid of drugs.

    An OS should be first and foremost both secure and fast. It should have a very small footprint and...

    It should but does one modern OS have this? Unfortunately Microsoft seems to think bigger, and slower is better. I used 98 for as long as I could. I think ill do the same with XP.

    (Democracy and Republic different forms of gov't? No corruption in a Democracy? etc., etc.)

    Actually we are a Republic not a Democracy. Also, the separation of Church and State and other laws are to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority.
