..is somehow 5x faster in their example than running the same ruby script on Ruby1.8 as a shell script on the commandline. Their example is incredibly simple, but I am still surprised that it wasn't 5x slower. I boggled at that too, but I simply thought I misunderstood the article (English isn't my native language.) I keep hearing that Ruby's interpreter is rubbish, but I had no idea it could be beaten by a JavaScript implementation running a Ruby interpreter. That's like WINE running Windows programs faster than XP.
So in this idealized state of yours I can feel free to kill as many people as I like if I don't subscribe to not-killing-people laws? Okily dokily. Sounds like fun. Oh, and drunk driving sounds like fun too.
Just a nitpick, but the Swedes have something like 5 nuclear power plants, providing 50% of the country's power. I have no idea where you get your "facts" from.
I suspect this is just an implementation of ICAO standards. I find it extremely funny that every time the TSA does something, the reaction is "lol stupid security officers."
I don't understand how people get "100+ day uptimes" on Windows boxen. Don't you have to reboot practically every Tuesday? Or are you just not patching your system?
Ever since Symbian 9.1 (or S60 v3 in Nokia-speak) signing of applications has been mandatory and it also broke compatibility with previous versions. You can always self-sign your application, but to do anything actually interesting like access any files or use the network connection, you have to get your application signed by a Test House (and possibly the cell phone manufacturer.) To get your software signed for free, you have to jump a lot of hoops, and if you're developing commercial software you have to shell out cash for the signature.
I don't know how the system works in the US of A (at least that's where I'm guessing you're from), but at least over here in Finland (and the EU in general) crime prevention is pretty high on the priority list, and there's even an EU and UN-run Institution for Crime Prevention and Control (logically abbreviated as HEUNI.) The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (a.k.a. KRP) together with the Security Police (or SUPO) even have an extensive "intel" network (yes yes, sounds very "In Soviet Russia, you serve the Police" but trust me, it's not) that they use to prevent criminal activities. I'm willing to bet crime prevention is a large factor in American police work as well. Just because you never see it happen doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
"Care to cite some sources[...]? Got some sources?" Ahh yes, demanding for sources, the last refuge in a debate when you've run out of sensible arguments. Where's your source on the reason for the (current) Iraq war?
Your statement is true for very small values of "for years." ASLR has been on by default since 2.6.20 which was released in February of... 2007. So yes, the feature has been implemented for a while, but the question is, how many people actually used it before 2.6.20 came out?
And if you also accept that knowledge is power, you'll get even more interesting results:
If knowledge = power, then knowledge = work/time. Since time = money, it follows that knowledge = work/money. This also means that money = work/knowledge. As knowledge approaches zero, money will approach infinity meaning the less you know the more money you'll get.
God willing, we will prevail, in peace and freedom from fear, and in true health, through the purity and essence of our natural fluids. God bless you all.
Ron Paul, is that you?
You're saying "any of you" like you're not registered here too.
It has nothing to do with DRM, and it *is* just a bug. A serious one at that, but a bug nonetheless. It's not like they intentionally broke anything.

Personally, I wouldn't want to die of a broken pelvis.

May be bullshit? Really, Captain Obvious?

Let me guess, you never went to school in the first place.

How is that NOT hostile?

Yes, let's get the US government in on this, they'll surely fix it.

Hippocracy? Is that the system of government where horses are the ruling class?
Be very, very scared when someone from IBM calls you and says that they have an offer you can't refuse.

I'd suggest GNI as in "GNI's Not ISO."
Oh you mean like this?

Or could it be that the update was designed to break modded phones, not the other way around?
