Back at that time I was still dual-booting, and used to code in the IDE of Turbo C and DOS edit... mc's editor was the closest match.
In 2006 I forced myself to use vim during one month. There were some things that I fell in love with, but overall I didn't like the experience. So I just made a plugin for gedit with everything I liked in vim, and that's what I've been using since (now with Pluma, because gedit3 broke compatibility).
You misunderstood me. I used slackware until 2000, when a friend suggested to me to try Debian, which he had installed in a computer of our lab. The first thing I tried was to edit a configuration file using midnight commander (mc -e), which was not installed by default. I pointed to the screen and made a face implying "is this what you call a decent OS?", but he said "wait", and typed the magic words "apt-get install mc".
From that moment on, I would never use an OS without package manager again... at least not by my own volition.
I used slackware from 97 to 2000 -- too long ago -- so I was curious about the state of package management:
One of the major complaints by new users is the fact that Slackware does not automatically track dependencies and install dependencies when you install a file. To many this may seem like a negative mark against Slackware, but I prefer to know exactly what is installed on my system and what it is for.
So, no, thanks. I'll stay with my Debian based distros. Which btw I know exactly what is installed... I'm not sure why one would assume automatic dependency installation imply the dependencies are installed secretly.:p
I'm pretty sure it tastes much worse in America. To blather America is the bastion of freedom and human rights, just to later be proven war criminals* and torturers, with complete disregard for its own constitution and international laws, and clearly going in the way to a police state.
And just to be clear, I'm talking about the American *government* (yeah, your employer, cold fjord), not the American population, which unfortunately stays mostly anesthetized through all these wrongdoings.
* e.g. in the Collateral Murder video, or the recently atoned Vietnam war files
That's great! Now the other states can copy the site! Ah, wait, I forgot... you people pay for the software but you don't own it. Yes, Free Software is for communists.
[...] there is an important place for execution in the criminal justice system.
If the criminal justice system was actually fair, I (perhaps) wouldn't disagree. But when you have bankers that screwed the lives of millions of people going free, while a poor woman gets a life sentence because she was at the wrong place, at the wrong time (during a drug deal), with the wrong people, and said people decide to incriminate her... then I don't think I can trust the life of my fellow earthlings to the system.
I'm against capital punishment because of all the innocent people that were (and continue to be) wrongfully sentenced and murdered by the state. But that aside, I can't see any advantage on using chemicals to kill a person, instead of a bullet shot into the head. The cost is ridiculously smaller, and there is no pain involved. Just have a standard designed machine for holding the subject and the gun, with calibration and testing before the actual execution... boom, done.
I came to ask that, there must surely be some more 3DTV owners here. I'm interested to hear not only about movies, but about games and other interactive media. Does anybody here have used Blender (or Maya / whatever) with a 3DTV / monitor?
Hmmm, several posts, yet no mention of UDT so far. It would be nice if the benchmark included it.
"FUD" implies that I was intentionally spreading misinformation, which was not the case, so please tone down. Btw, have you read my comment above?

mc was installed by default, and in 2000 there was nothing resembling "slackpkg". But nice to know it exists now!

Whoooosh!
why does Ubuntu not come with a screensaver?
Settings > Brightness & Lock > Turn screen off when inactive for ...
Ah, you want something that show you ponies, rainbows and stuff? I don't know, never felt the need for it.
Show me one example of anyone anywhere controlling anything without using their mind.

The movie was a patchwork of Asimov themes. It was one rare instance where I preferred the movie to the book.
What I wish with all my heart is that they don't screw the Foundation series.
Joke? Are you Mr. Bean?
And that's why politicians care about protests if they are huge enough
No, they don't. Not anymore. Not until you get money out of politics. http://www.wolf-pac.com/
I'm one of those bleeding heart feminists.
You don't have to be a feminist to have empathy for your fellow human beings, whichever gender they are.

Any nation that has long winters with brutal, cold weather
But.. but.. Fox News told us that Germany has much more sun exposure than America!
Thank you all, fuckers, for the increase of latency in my networked games.
Do not confuse pessimism with realism.
It all depends on the quality of the existing code base. More often than not, it's better to start from scratch.

I don't understand why you were modded down.

Bullshit system that needs to be outlawed.
