How do you count downloads on bittorrent? At best, you can get a sketchy number of peers and seeds but how does that translate to actual downloads?
Also, how do those download numbers stack up against actual sales? Is there a method to determine what portion of these downloads represent actual loss for the companies (copies that were only pirated) versus what is essentially pre-sale test drives?
Even though I've barely played many of the games in the last couple and I don't even know if the games this time are PPC compatible.
By the way, I am currently offering a good home to any wayward or orphaned Intel Macs. You will receive no actual money but you will know that your machine is in the hands of people who love it dearly and will not sell its internal parts for scrap.
I'm currently reading The Net Delusion, which pretty much postulates that a lot of the noise in government and the media about the power of the internet for change is pretty much driven by a very outdated set of assumptions that date back to the end of the Cold War.
I imagine that this fits the kind of thinking going on here, although it does seem interesting that most of the targets of these attacks are American or corporate allies.
I am certainly glad that here in the United States of America, blessed by God and common sense, that we will never experience a tragedy of this magnitude. Thanks to our sensible legislators and their neverending compassion for the people whose livelihood depends on the exploration, excavation, processing, shipping, and selling of fossil fuels, we will never have to see one of these "bullet" trains derail in this country! Our citizens will remain safe! Why, the very name of these things, a "bullet" train, brings to mind only the horror and tragedy of random school violence. Not, of course, that this has anything to do with the abundance of firearms in our nation, no, but the analogy is still valid.
These trains must be banned. We need a constitutional amendment to prevent this sort of thing from ever happening here.
Were your science-fiction books not also "mass produced by large corporations with vested interests and that manipulate and actively suppress fact"? Could they possibly be publishing fiction with themes that reinforce the same sort of effect you find reprehensible in the media?
Sci-fi has a long history of being written by reactionary, patriarchal, authoritarian people, you know.
Facebook may have controls over your privacy, but they aren't very well documented. I know someone who hates FB who activated an account just to check out an event that was not available unless logged in. They set their account up and tried to make the privacy controls as strict as possible.
After being logged in once, they started noticing that sites with facebook sidebars were starting to show images from other fourms that he'd browsed. Apparently, just closing a browser tab doesn't sever the connection with facebook. You stay logged in and FB follows you where you click. Where's the switch for that behavior? Is it completely unreasonable for someone to not want their entire browsing history to be seen by a company? Should we just blindly accept the end of privacy and be happy because we have Angry Birds and Foursquare?
Again, there's no point in fearing an Orwellian society when you've already bought into the Huxleyan one.
Still, I am increasingly annoyed with Apple (and the rest of the computing world, I guess). I never bought 10.5 because I was either broke or lazy (depends on which year it came out).
Now, when I might actually want to upgrade, I'm not even sure where I could find a legitimate copy of 10.5. And, unless I'm just missing something, I won't even be able to get applications from Apple pretty soon, as they are moving to the MacAppStore thing and so older users will just be shut out. We won't even talk about how the new Firefox is not even for 10.5 and up, but also for Intel machines. What the hell? Will I just be unable to even browse the net with this machine next year?
It's not even like M$, who at least put out these notices, "Hey, dimwits, we won't support you in three years". They just reinvent the damn wheel every six to nine months and up yours if you can't keep up.
I think I missed the intel switch by about six months, as it was.
I don't even think those are real monkeys. They look entirely too...well groomed.
I'm just glad I'm not the only person to think that the Daily Fail is making it up.
As I posted above, it's not exactly a public place and there is (IIRC) a limited expectation of privacy *within the store itself*, however anyone outside the store could take pictures of the people inside and that would be acceptable./I should really take a refresher course in media law. it's been over a decade.

...if it goes into an infinite loop while trying to rescue another piece of code?
If judges could pass summary judgment for civil damages in a case like this?
Or, better, when someone's released from a 20 year stint in prison after the DNA proves they didn't do it?
I'm mostly referring to the headline stating it is the "first" but I would also argue that the "known" is not implicit.
That's quite a passionate and protracted argument. I think you covered all the angles.
Well, you should be.
Seriously.
The real question is how the hell do you manage that many servers? How do you even name them
1hahaha ....

900000 servers! Hahahaha!

It's possible that they are tossing the police ringers.
Probably the cold weather just led to a lot more cuddling. And, naturally the cuddling led to a lot more - you know - whoopee.
So, apparently sex is good for your brain.

This American Life gives me hives.
We won't all one day drive our Sony to the Sony to pick up more Sony?
He overpaid.
I thought was explained when it said he went to Best Buy.

The Doctor will create a ganger of himself and figure out how to break the link between Amy and her avatar!
I'll pass that on. Gracias.
Mods, take note - that's a helpful post.
Even it is that benign, I still find it creepy.

OK, I thought I was going completely stupid.

I thought 10.5 could run on PPC. All I know is, I can't buy a new printer for this damn thing without an OS upgrade and, frankly, that's stupid.
