RE: the gov't being the taskmaster, I sure have never really heard much from them that would cause me to say "Yes Master!", but honestly, the internet does not need the UN, or any international body in control, infact it needs nobody in control, it has been operated just fine for years with very little control, except that over addressing so we can all get along and talk to each other.
print the files to tiff format, then extract the text and metadata, and toss that into a searchable database, and then keep the orig file around for good measure

I was in Boone, NC today, and stopped by the local wally world with my better half. While we were at the register, we noticed the "server" room. The gear looked like a bunch of old cisco hubs/low end 1u switches, five or six OLD compaq servers. The servers nor the room were well maintained, We could see tons of dust on the equipment, and the cealing tiles which were also very low... infact, It looked like the room's cealing was just less then 8 feet and they had two 7 foot telco racks. The wiring was just a MESS. Maybe my time spent wiring datacenters has caused a neat and tidy wiring OCD, but damn that room was nasty, with old nasty gear. Hell, those compaqs looked like the stuff compaq was putting out in the mid 90s....
Ewww.. thats ATM... ewwww... I'd hope the theifs would have been smart enough to take Serial DS-3 linecards and not ATM.... eww ATM... ewww.. must go clean self... feel dirty.

Postgres seriously lacks decent replication. MySQL has kick ass replication.
One important thing to keep ups batteries with a nice long life is good enviromental control. Regulated Humidity, and tempature helps ensure that you battery lasts longer. We have a 35KVA APC unit... APC came out and checked the unit, and after three years, they said our batteries are quite good, but they expect us to have to replace them in 6-18 months. Neat Huh?!?
At my last job, we had four 500KVA units... Yes.. 500 KVA... They were powerware units... They were in fairly good condion except for the batteries. The batteries were in bad condition, and the reason why, the facilities manager forced us to only run one CRAC unit in that room... when the room required three to stay under 70 degrees... so... at the top of the room.. it was 85 degrees... at the ground floor, it was about 75.
The big difference was regulation of the enviroment... When the enviroment is properly regulated, it works well.
Next, they will outlaw Crypto... Phun! Then, according to their master plan, EVERYBODY will be a fellon because nearly all computers use crypto... ooh.. lets just ban math so people won't even be able to understand crypto. Sweet... roll back the clocks, its time to set the time to the year 1984.
