The smaller form factor isn't good because I have to move my monitor a lot, it is good because I have more keyboard room on my ridiculously undersized desk.
"If they weren't very careful in choosing which components they open sourced, they'd be in danger of enabling a superior competitor."
*THIS* is why I hate monopolies. Imagine what amazing OS's we would have by now if they could run window's binarys. If Windows had to compete based on quality and not on "It was always there before"...
Our computers would be smaller, faster, cheaper, and more powerful.
Imagine that ubuntu released a version without a media player, a version with LAMP installed, a version without compiz, etc, and called each one "Ubuntu 8.10 basic", "Ubuntu 8.10 standard" "Ubuntu 8.10 special super", and the like.
In my opinion, this would be silly, and I would make fun of this.
The PS3 can now play most AVI, MPEG, MP4, WMV, etc without issue, and without being converted. Its not 100%, you can get most of your library on the PS3 without conversion now... and if DivX gets mkv support, so will the PS3.
No, it *is* accident proof. They just didn't tell you all the extra features they built in.
For example, the car will not move. At All. Secondly, the mounted turret will shoot everyone who approaches the vehicle. Third, the missile launcher destroys any other vehicles approaching/avoiding you.
Finally, If all that fails, the car kills you on purpose.
When McCain was having a down to the nail fight against Ron Paul, where they had to go down to Guam and fight it out, and the dramatic twist with Ron Paul fighting to get back the votes he lost when he ran against the rules in that state after agreeing not to, I was totally thinking that McCain should have gotten more coverage.
I mean really, When McCain went around the world and got hundreds of thousands of people cheering for America, people who months ago were cursing us, How could we have not covered that?
Stupid Obama, he only got media coverage for those couple of months toward the end when he picked that retarded running mate at the last second to try and get the discouraged McCain supporters for Ron Paul. I mean, that was low! And the running mate was horrible! Was already being investigated twice for missusing power!
...
All joking aside, Obama's campaign race was better than half the tv shows in the last couple of years. McCain spent the first half already ready and hoping that Obama would get kicked/muddied by Hillary. He spent the second half going from town halls and supper marts to high schools and so forth.
I mean, how could we *not* have 30 stories of "McCain did nothing special today" when you have the campaign of the first woman trying to become President and first black man trying to become president? Isn't it far more important that this old guy get full coverage of his visits to the House of Sausage? Or his brutal attacks on other people's characters, and their friends, and people they sat near, and people who they visted?
Yeah, but most people don't even need fast dial up for the amount they do online.
Give all of those "Login, check email, login tomorrow" users free internet, and the only people left with these asshole IP companies will be us real users.
^_^ THEN the IP companies will have to start treating us like we matter, instead of just disconnecting our service if we complain/try to use our service/whatever.
Not to mention, these areas with one provider will actually have competition for the first time.
And if you think you will get *any* change from an old man who has been in Office 30 years and only agrees with Bush *MORE* as it gets closer to election, I think you are misguided.
Recent Examples:
360 had a massive failure rate initially, and even though it has been brought back in line, will continue to carry the public image of "Shoddy", "Cheap", etc.
Vista had driver issues, and the DRM was annoying until they got it all smoothed out... they also had networking issues due to strange audio issues. However, even though they have fixed most of that, they are still suffering.
The PS3 came out with a massive price and a low number of games... and even though the games have massively increased, and (Until the most recent 360 price drop) cost about the same as a 360, people still think of it as the "expensive" console.
I won't stray into the election, but there is bad publicity on both sides there as well.
extensions in my experience, often don't and can easily be incompatible with each other.
They normally "don't work" only if they are incompatible with each other. If you have 3 programs designed to give you mouse gestures, I would expect issues as well honestly.
Firefox 3 crashes about 12 times a week according to the logs
That is not normal. Backup your bookmarks, etc, and remake your profile (Move it to your desktop so Firefox thinks you don't have one). Firefox 3 has never crashed for me with one exception: The Flash plugin (on linux). >.
install an extension to get close button on each tab.
That is there by default on every fresh install of Firefox 3.
Your problems seem to be that you have redundant/old plugins... so lets try an experiment. Go to the following web site, and download firefox 3 portable.
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
Install it to your desktop (Or thumb drive, or whatever), and then see whether or not it has the functionality you want *before* adding plugins.
I say we get rid of all mailing lists, and use RSS feeds.
Instant updates for all clients, anyone who doesn't want to hear about it anymore just has to delete their bookmark... and it never gets flagged as false positive.
I think this deserves the "Suddenoutbreakofcommonsense" tag!
I mean, *not* charging thousands of dollars for each song? Brilliant!

Half of the spam I get on my gmail account that actually gets past the filter is in some language other than English... in fact its almost always in Cyrillic as well.
Give me a damn drop down that says "I speak English, anything not in English is not to me".
Won't solve their outgoing problem, but adding "this is my language" support would be a big help on the incoming, at least with my spam patterns.
Create a filter that targets messages containing non-english letters, and then marks as spam.
From the link: "Her outfit also annoyed some who felt that it was an attempt by the show's creators to make her sexually appealing to male viewers, without any storyline purpose."

"Bill Gates smoothly made sure his company won the monopoly, but even without the man, a different software company would have won it."
Even if the results would have been the same, that does not mean we have to like the person responsible.
This is the man who made computers widespread (Thanks!) and made using dirty tricks to keep competition down a company standard (Bastard!).

"One need only look at the number of posts that simply say "wooosh" to back this up."
Silly, everyone knows that when they post "Wooosh" you have to start the wave... duh.
Well, this obviously means they should make more technology porn sites.
They better share this important info immediately!
The PS3 can now play most AVI, MPEG, MP4, WMV, etc without issue, and without being converted. Its not 100%, you can get most of your library on the PS3 without conversion now... and if DivX gets mkv support, so will the PS3.
Or did he write his password on a post it note and stick it to his monitor?
Or does he use the same password for everything, and they just hacked his email account instead?
No, it *is* accident proof.

See? No accidents.
"... doesn't want Obama to get rid of it and divert the money to the black hole known as the education budget."
I thought they would jump at the chance to explore a black hole...
Somehow I feel that buying exclusives and preventing competition is far worse than denying access to some of your movies.
Hell, it probably would have been *easier* to make a PS3 interface, since it comes with a web browser and flash9 support.
My annoyance aside, I have no doubt if/when Netflix creates a PS3 interface, MS will influence some content to not play there.
On a side note, you noticed the "Order Dominioes from your TIVO" stuff? I am going to go ahead and predict a version of that for both the 360 and ps3.
I know!

"But you can't expect an average user to grapple with trying to hunt down extensions, just to replicate what'll be standard behaviour in IE."
Go to "Tools", "Addons", and "Get Addons". It suggests various extensions, and lets you search/install them from within the browser.
It is far easier than what it used to be, and if you don't find what you need you have a link that takes you to the right page at the bottom.
^_^ Its just like having a mini-repository like Aptitude... and it is a big step forward in my opinion.
I own windows MCE, which I used for a long time... then I moved to some other options (Mythtv was one)...
But now, I just have my torrent program auto download my programs with rss feeds from tvrss and mininova.
No commercials, and I can even get HD versions of most of em if I bothered.
