Ha, I assumed when I read the headline that Wal*Mart had started a MySpace clone for the child labor and slave labor that makes all their crap. I was close, it's for the children that BUY their crap.
Rememeber our slogan, "Made for children by children."
Yes. Skype is one of the most sneaky and well disgused protocols ever.
Mainly becasue they "borrow" (no such thing as stealing on/.) massive amounts of bandwitdth from the people unfortunate enough to meet the *.edu criteria to be a supernode.
Botnet designers have nothing on Skype, except alot to learn.
"Console companies have gone ot such great lengths to make sure their API is so specific that we have to spend a year porting from one console to another, that we'll just come up with a way to make it all never change."
At least half the design time of a console these days is making sure it's HARD to port games to another console, so that it will be an exclusive title, and they can make more money.
I fyou think Microsoft hates things like OpenGL, you've never seen the fires of hell hatered that people like Sony, Nintendo etc have for anything that makes game development easier.
It's more of a cult really, where the leaders take 10% in ebay and paypal fees.
They show their "conventions" on CNBC sometimes. 1000's of middle aged, overweight women (and some men). Sadly, the thought that poped into my head was "wow, that crowd makes a Star Trek convention look like 90210."
If any other organization was taking 10% of your income, they'd be called the mob, and arrested for shaking down merchants:)
Don't fool yourself. It's just a way for Google to own anything their employees do in their off-hours. 80% of a 50 hour week is still 40 hours, and you get the other 148 hours for free.
Other companies just put it in the employment agreement, but Google makes people feel good about signing over their soul.
I've said it before, if you aren't a 14 year old or a pedophile, why the hell would you want to be on a site like myspace, a site full of 14 year old and pedophiles.
Anyone else should have grown up by now, and have better things to do, like talk to your kids and keep them off sites like myspace!
Last I checked, 1GB was about the smallest line you can still lease in most of the world. In some places that's being rolled out to homes. But this is America, so WOW THAT'S FAST.
But still, pretty funny unless you're stuck in 1993.
Considering the insane rates they charge for ads, I'm sure their fees will be just as "evil" as PayPals. And that's all merchants _should_ really care about.
Oh, and the fact that if you DON'T pay Google, you'll get zero visitors. Becasue of course, ads and fake sites are the first 3 pages.
Now every laptop from every manufacturer has battery problems.
The MacBook didn't have them for a month because it was new. That's all.
Who makes these crappy batteries (China obviously) any why do companies keep buying them? And is it the slave labor, or the childrens small hands that makes the quality so low?
Looks to me like a web browser, with extentions for all the things people who think the world cares what they say and have an ego so big it needs a 2.0 need in a browser - blogs and photos.
But seriously, anything that keeps teens out of the real world where they would be destroying things or taking jobs away from hard working illegal aliens, I'm 100% behind!

Yeap, there you have the cause... MySQL.
When they start training people to develop web applications using a DATABSAE, then they will know how to use all those things you mentioned.
MySQL 5 is the first version even "close" to a database.
Virtualzation is now the "killer app"... for the rootkit/spyware/zombie crowd.
So your first hit is likely to be your last.

We had the little turtle robot back when I learned LOGO.
;)
In 1981...
Coming soon to people outside Minnesota? Guess some places are just ahead of the rest of the world

Sadly, Google has taken the approach of screwing the customer with just as high of fees as Paypal. Equal levels of evil.
So, it's not time to root for them yet.

Only #3 and #1 have any place on that list.
There are so many more visually appealing OS X apps out there. Most of his list is just file-list style apps. A downloader? Good grief.

Brilliant. Now THAT is innovation.

Yea, we're also used to be being screwed.

All hail our search Mafia overlords.
Then sellers would start ending their auctions during the day when people are are work on their computers. Problem solved.
I was using systems that did this 10 years ago. Granted, back then it was disk+tape not different speed disks, but it's the exact same thing.
Looks to me like an excuse to charge 8-10x what you should be paying for storage of that size.
I know that this "job-tailoring" is done frequently in the industry as a way of getting the exact person you know.
Actually, that's the only reason anyone still writes job ads. If you nor your employees know poeple good for the job, you're already out of business.
That's just how it is.

... I had AOL "lite" or whatever it was for HTML testing, they had their own web browser at AOL.
After alot of trouble, I had to have my bank issue me a new credit card in order to stop the billing.
It's a hell of alot easier then dealing with AOL, and yes, it is POLICY to never cancel an account. Some of my relatives had to do the same thing.
You mean INeffective... Only the click-bots see them.
Now when I search, pages and pages of those.
Someone PLEASE start a new search engine that's spam free.
25c/dollar of that goes to Visa/Mastercard.
Now those are a couple monopolies that screw us all every day.

Go Flock yourself!
and more expensive stuff once you get to whatever the ad links to.
Buy generic. Buy local.
Just look at how much IPv6 address space costs per year.
Now you know why noone is using it.
Hrm...
;)
1. Build an OS that's so hard to use only geeks can use it
2. Charge 50 dollars for documentation/support
3. Profit!
Oh wait, that's Redhat
