    Ha, I assumed when I read the headline that Wal*Mart had started a MySpace clone for the child labor and slave labor that makes all their crap. I was close, it's for the children that BUY their crap.

    Rememeber our slogan, "Made for children by children."

    Yeap, there you have the cause... MySQL.

    When they start training people to develop web applications using a DATABSAE, then they will know how to use all those things you mentioned.

    MySQL 5 is the first version even "close" to a database.

    Yes. Skype is one of the most sneaky and well disgused protocols ever.

    Mainly becasue they "borrow" (no such thing as stealing on /.) massive amounts of bandwitdth from the people unfortunate enough to meet the *.edu criteria to be a supernode.

    Botnet designers have nothing on Skype, except alot to learn.

    At least half the design time of a console these days is making sure it's HARD to port games to another console, so that it will be an exclusive title, and they can make more money.

    I fyou think Microsoft hates things like OpenGL, you've never seen the fires of hell hatered that people like Sony, Nintendo etc have for anything that makes game development easier.

    It's more of a cult really, where the leaders take 10% in ebay and paypal fees.

    They show their "conventions" on CNBC sometimes. 1000's of middle aged, overweight women (and some men). Sadly, the thought that poped into my head was "wow, that crowd makes a Star Trek convention look like 90210."

    If any other organization was taking 10% of your income, they'd be called the mob, and arrested for shaking down merchants :)

    There are so many more visually appealing OS X apps out there. Most of his list is just file-list style apps. A downloader? Good grief.

    Don't fool yourself. It's just a way for Google to own anything their employees do in their off-hours. 80% of a 50 hour week is still 40 hours, and you get the other 148 hours for free.

    Other companies just put it in the employment agreement, but Google makes people feel good about signing over their soul.

    I've said it before, if you aren't a 14 year old or a pedophile, why the hell would you want to be on a site like myspace, a site full of 14 year old and pedophiles.

    Anyone else should have grown up by now, and have better things to do, like talk to your kids and keep them off sites like myspace!

    Last I checked, 1GB was about the smallest line you can still lease in most of the world. In some places that's being rolled out to homes. But this is America, so WOW THAT'S FAST.

    But still, pretty funny unless you're stuck in 1993.

    Considering the insane rates they charge for ads, I'm sure their fees will be just as "evil" as PayPals. And that's all merchants _should_ really care about.

    Oh, and the fact that if you DON'T pay Google, you'll get zero visitors. Becasue of course, ads and fake sites are the first 3 pages.

    I was using systems that did this 10 years ago. Granted, back then it was disk+tape not different speed disks, but it's the exact same thing.

    Looks to me like an excuse to charge 8-10x what you should be paying for storage of that size.

    I know that this "job-tailoring" is done frequently in the industry as a way of getting the exact person you know.

    Actually, that's the only reason anyone still writes job ads. If you nor your employees know poeple good for the job, you're already out of business.

    Now every laptop from every manufacturer has battery problems.

    The MacBook didn't have them for a month because it was new. That's all.

    Who makes these crappy batteries (China obviously) any why do companies keep buying them? And is it the slave labor, or the childrens small hands that makes the quality so low?

    ... I had AOL "lite" or whatever it was for HTML testing, they had their own web browser at AOL.

    After alot of trouble, I had to have my bank issue me a new credit card in order to stop the billing.

    It's a hell of alot easier then dealing with AOL, and yes, it is POLICY to never cancel an account. Some of my relatives had to do the same thing.
