And, er... we're cutting down the trees at the same time. That's really not a good idea. Yes, there are places that carelessly beat the shit out of the nearby flora, but there are also people who stupidly choose to live in/next to forests, which means a lot of forest fires that would occur normally (lightning/dry summer weather), releasing CO2 and scaling back the population temporarily, are stopped early by the previously-mentioned stupid people. There are also countless acres of food crops around the world, and I haven't seen anyone take an axe to a flower yet. (Perhaps those big sunflowers...) Really, trees aren't the only plants that undergo photosynthesis.

a video by Mozilla developer Mike Beltzner, demonstrating some of the new features in Mozilla Firefox 3, which is due out very soon. Weighing in at under four minutes, the video gives a concise overview of why you should be excited about Firefox 3. Due to its visual nature, the video shows Firefox's features far more clearly than the many written previews that have been published. A picture really is worth a thousand words. Is that in any way harder to understand? You don't need to make up new words for something implied by the context.
In the same vein, 'screenshot' adds nothing over 'image' or 'picture', other than signifying that it's an image of a screen. (I so wouldn't have noticed.) I probably would bitch about that under the right circumstances, but I suppose I missed the window for that. Also, there are no 'podshots', 'textshots', or 'vodshots' to annoy me further.

Only part I take issue with:

Point being, you can never "have complete control over your software". Don't know how to read? Ask a programmer. Don't trust one programmer? Ask more. Distrust your OS? Do a code audit. Suspicious of your compiler? Write your own. (You know, like people did back in the stone age.) Hell, you could go ahead and make your own hardware from scratch. It may take a few years/decades to do it right, but it can be done.

So yes, you can control your software. The only pre-existing system you have to rely on is the one that produced the raw materials for the hardware. (And if you distrust dead stars...)

So bother them and only if they pose a problem. People can worry about the slightest things getting out, not because it's illegal, sometimes not even because it's damaging to one's reputation, maybe it's just because no one has any right to know.
So yes, if you suspect me of being the leader of some crime ring and have more than a hunch, then by all means, track my every word and move. Go ahead and make my house one big mic if you want. If you want to find potential criminals, then piss off and take the time to do some research to demonstrate that you actually need to know my every word.
