Why do we have to always copy microsoft, every single time we do anything on linux it ends up looking like some horrid antiquated microsoft product that everyone agrees isn't that great itself.
By god the number of paint programs which fail tradgically simply by using the awful microsoft paint package as a template for how there UI should work and what features to include in the software.
Look around at every operating system which has a slightly diferent system, this method of saving files has been around since the early days of dos, something better is bound to be out there.
Though I probably only spot it coming from RISC OS which had in my opinion a fantastic drag and drop saving system. Handilly since saving a file use the same internal mechnism as any data transfer between applications you could save a document straight into another document draging it into place or drag it to a filer window, your desktop, a icon representing a hardisc.
Yes RISC OS suffers from having a UI which hasn't been brought forwards in the past 10 years by any great ammount, but then if you think about it, very little has been brought forwards in windows or linux yet since were still using dialogue boxes which have there origin 20 years back when text was the only medium available.

Extra bandwidth charges and the cost of taking there domain away from the net for however long it takes them to find the cash.
Some of the pupils are sex-offenders, I know someone in england who was police-checked for working in a school when he was actually yougner than many of the students.
I think during the same manic anti-pedophile phase, a pediatrician (doctor specialising in treatment of children) was attacked at there home.
The arguments for giving out details are fairly sound, parents can protect there children, but there's a lot of negitves. 1) your living happilly, 2) Your next-door neighbour is published on the pedophile list, 3) Your house price halves, you won't let your kids out of sight, your insurance premiums probably go up, 4) your friends no longer want to visit your house, 5).... you kill your neighbour because he's ruined your life.
Perhaps it's better just knowing that the police and goverment are keeping tabs on them and ther not dangerous?
I hate EULA's, the whole concept that after buying a copy of the software, I then give up my ownership of the copy of the software, and then licence it from the copyright owner, horrid.
If I pick it off the shelf it should say 'Licence to use Neverwinter Nights, with distribution media included' not 'Neverwinter Nights'. I'm sure a good lawyer could rip the whole idea apart in court, espically in a europe where you can't call a banana a banana unless it's curved right.
I miss the good old EULA's you know the ones which only added things ontop of copyright and stated a limited warranty and disclaimer of liability.
EULA's have become something you throw in the box as it goes out the door, no one takes a blind bit of notice at either side and it's about time we did away with them, or at least made them relevant .
Where I opened out the ring-main, and stuck two double sockets side by side, giving 4 points on the ring right by my desk, one feeds into a UPS which splits it 8 ways, and two more to 4-way splitters, the last one is a seperate for my lamp.
Giving me 17 electrical points..., alas I'm running out:)
I can't even imagine how this tax would fit into the internet, let alone be inforcable, the cost of the charging system and the extra effort required to police the fraud of the system, lets face it any system where money changes hands I'm sure somone will work out a way to defraud:)
There's a linux client which gives you all the fancy frills as the windows one does. And if you give up on that you can install your favorite geek programs and scp/rsync files accross:)
I would love to, hell I want to, all I need is a stamp envelope paper, time to sort out and get my printer working, probably only 15 minutes all in all, so why do I always wuss out.
Pleeese pleese pleese don't be a looser and a dork like me and send a bloody letter to your MEP.
Well I didn't read the whole paper, but the first 5 minutes made me go.... you know this guy actually knows something, the next 5 minutes made me go, you know this guy actually knows a hell of a lot, and the next 5 minutes after that, I was convinved that it's not a bad system to replace X Window, with.
If people actually got behind this, poked around, wrote drivers so everything didn't have to go through SDL and the other things that it needs it could really work, admitidly it'd be a bit of a shift and many things done today would have to be built as modules to the windowing system, thinking particularly things like Evas *druel*, themes and so forth.
Bigest turn-on: You could connect to a machine, run a program and no matter what it was it'd look right on your machine, somone else running the same program on the same machine would have it look right on their desktop as well.
Bigest turn-off: The number of legacy X11 appications which would totally ignore the good features of the windowing system and fact it'd probably take 10 years to get to the stage where nvidia and ati would write accelerated drivers for it.
Now of course I am a beast of my enviorment, so I'll just mourn that I saw no mention of RISC OS and say jolly well done, I don't think my masters project will be anything close to this impressive.
Only because I passed the test but don't know morse code so can only apply for a licence to transmit over 30Mhz, which is effectively 50MHz+ since there's no bands in the uk between 30-50 for radio ham uses.
But we can tell you exactly who they are what there doing, when they do it and what there reasons were for it, next week we'll be able to get them for anti-capatlist thought crimes too.....
The GPL works ontop of copyright law, ergo, you can make a backup copy without accepting the licence, but if you want to distribute to more than one more person you have to accept the licence.
SCO's pulling at straws, or perhaps they got jealous of how much Microsoft is hated by geeks, and wanted to get some of it for themselves:/
A google is a very big number and if you take 1 and put a google of 0's after it, youve got a googleplex, so lets not say there not a word big enough for it.
I mean, why type in a password every feckin mornin wouln't it be so cool to have a smart card based login and access system, though biometrics are lookin sexier...
Who would want to break a satelite box anyway, 500 channels of c***, I get enough c*** on my 4 channels I don't need or want any more:)
Microsoft have got the market, they don't need to do any work to keep it, so why add furthur inovations to IE, no reason at all, theve even held back on full PNG support, well the work doesn't need to be done so why do it?

Everyones concirned with the short-term, no one cares what happens in 10 or 20 years time, and 50 ha, we leave that to wierdos at BT.
But we could be headed for disaster and no one looked up to see it comming.

Admitdly tabs need to be kept on sex offenders, but that's not the job of groups of angery citizens with lumps of wood.

There's still an ascoiated cost to business...
if ( costOfPrivateSoftware() > costOfSoftwareDisclosure() {
useGPL();
} else {
usePrivate();
}

So we think it's impossible now, hell it might very well be impossible but hey everythings worth a try once.
