2) It's NOT possible to run 2 apps that want 100% of your CPU at the same time.
True dat, but I was hoping that while Seti was throttled uploading a finished packet, UD could jump in a steal control of the cycles until it was uploading it's own packet....
Obviously I don't know enough about how these things work on that level...:)
I'm currently trying to run Seti@Home and the UD Cancer Cure program but it's not going well... Seti won't give up any cycles to UD.... and in light of this I'll be shutting down Seti for a while.
But what I really wish was created was a single program which all other tasks of this nature could be setup as plug-in's.... each plug-in getting all the unused cycles until it completes a unit and then the next plug-in get's it's turn... maybe even be able to decide how you want to skew the processings:
5 Seti@ Home units, then 12 UD units, 4 Folding@Home, etc....
There are a lot of projects out there I'd like to help with.... if only they'd play nice...

Yeah, can you imagine if they came out with a MP3 player? That would *SO* be following everybody else....
Um.. I was under the impression that the reasion that site switched is that it went from being hosted by a Gov. department and is now hosted by a company that only uses MS.
The actual switch was from provider, the OS switching was just an effect of that.

Mostly when I see these "protestors" at various meetings being interviewed they never explain *HOW* globalism is suppose to cause all these evils.... oh sure they'll spout off about it's the Anti-Christ, the End of the World, it'll turn your socks to serpents, we'll all be baby-eating devil worshipers, "dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!"
No he will fuck this up and most everyone who might be thinking of any kind of free software that he comes in contact with will be poisioned to the idea....
I'm not sayin I'm an expert on any of this but the more I read about the GPL, free-software and RMS the more I think he needs to be pushed to the sidelines...
"
How can user-centered design be reconciled with open source?"
The only thing I can think of is Government... It's organized, has a mandate to respond to the people (or at least pretend:) and need for profit is not a consideration...
'As the number of CPUs in a Beowulf-style cluster-a group of PCs linked via Ethernet-increases and memory is distributed instead of shared, the efficiency of each processor drops as more are added,'
Does that mean you could reach a point where adding another node actually slows everything down?
I had the same problem, until I downloaded the cracked version from The Underdogs... then if you install the multiplayer patch you get the full version with CD support as well. I'm loving it.;)
What's the chance MS will release it for free???
What's the chance your average Linux user will actually pay for the software?
I think MS Office for Linux will be warezed like nothing else and MS can spout off about how there's no market for 3rd party Linux apps and porting to Linux can actually HURT your software company as no one will buy the windows version once it's ported..
Hell they'll probably even quote Carmark about the lackluster Linux Q3A sales.....
Then again, things work differently in the business world....
I'm _extreamly_ new to linux/unix, but I'm begining to play with Debian because of there comepletely free ideals... sure, maybe I'll get burned in the end and go with something like Mandrake, but I'm sure there are those more experienced then I who will perfer Debian for the very reasons it intrests me now.
...that we're all going to be disappointed by the outcome... there's too much money on the line for it to go the other way....

I can't load the pages up, but I'm willing to bet they never included Rocket Jockey.
;)
J ockey , tho it's not quite the same without the soundtrack. :)
This game is just amazing... it's one of the few where it's actually fun to try for a high score after you've finished it.
More people need to play this. ('Cause I *need* a sequal...
Check it out: http://www.theunderdogs.org/game.php?name=Rocket+
Too true.... UT upped FPS's in many ways. Epic made a well rounded "game", not just a bunch of levels strung together...
