That's a trifling detail. If the government controls the means of production, it's irrelevant who claims to 'own' it. Socialism is the centralized control of the economy, not the ownership of the economy.
No doubt. You can put javascript in a QR code (similar to the old 'bookmarklets'). It's not common, so I'm not sure that all mobile QR readers will actually handle the javascript, but it's a possible vector.
Part of the reason for the reaction was that you mentioned twitter, and 90% of slashdot hates everything to do with twitter; the sound of the word itself is painful.
I'm actually serious about that. If you had just accused him of copying from a blog or new article, there wouldn't have been as much of a reaction. But accusing somebody of copying from twitter... that's LOW.

They certainly can be better at rationalizing their emotional decisions, but I think it's obvious that there has to be some correlation between intelligence and intelligent decisions, or else intelligence would have no bearing on life and success. Since intelligence does tend to lead to a more successful life...
And since this is Slashdot and a lot of us presumably live in California it's worth mentioning that barring a warrant only one party to a phone call needs to be aware that it's being taped in this state.
Same in Oregon, and a handful of other states. It's cheap and easy to record all your phone calls; I helped a friend do that to collect evidence on a vindictive ex-wife.
Neither is correct. A free market is one where BOTH PARTIES are free to engage or not in any transaction. There is no reason to distinguish a company from a person, a buyer from a seller. It's just a mutual trade. Thinking in terms of a corporation vs a consumer, or an employer vs an employee, is muddying the issue. Everything is a trade between a person and another person. Neither should be privileged over the other.
One more anonymous coward has lost it, given in to the paranoia... seeking the comfort of the belief that everybody who disagree with them must be paid to do so.
Solar thermal plants don't need any "backing". Photovoltaic plants are backed by wind plants... and obviously at night when you need less power you can just switch them off... oops they are off already.
Wind plants are just "backed" as you call it by other wind plants.
Don't worry, I'm sure the invisible hand of the free market will step in and all will be OK.
That's what it's currently doing, although it had to overcome the distortions caused by political posturing and attempted market manipulation in cases such as Solyndra.
There are some posts that are superficially reasonable, but are so obviously wrong, that you suspect deliberate trolling. This may be one of those cases. Can you really imagine that anybody with any technical sense or computer experience thinks the mobile desktop paradigm would be good on a desktop PC? That comment may have been posted purely for trolling purposes, because it'll get a massive negative reaction from everybody. I suspect that's why it was modded down, initially, fair or not.
Ah, it's you. You now post your anti-space rants on any article that mentions technology, evidently, out of fear that it may lead to more space exploration.
Nothing to do with sparkle. That can be done much more cheaply. It's to flaunt wealth. Fundamentally, the woman wants to show off how many resources her man can devote to her purely for pleasure. If diamonds were either cheap or had a practical purpose, they wouldn't be a display of frivolous wealth, and would no longer be desirable.
No, he seems to have the implied belief that stopping others from doing what they want is morally wrong. In that he is probably as close to the truth as we get.
The original Syndicate was horrifically violent; but it wasn't explicitly violent. It was just suggested or abstracted away. You could mind control a random citizen to kill his friends, then leave him behind to be shot... or take him with you to forcibly remove many body parts and permanently make him a slave.
Did you know that was only for purposes of census taking? There's no voting prohibition on race or gender in the constitution. That was completely left up to the states.
People are frequently taught the constitution was amended to allow blacks and women to vote. It wasn't. It was amended to force the states to allow blacks and women to vote.
Thr GPL isn't a EULA. You do not have to agree to any terms to use GPL'd software. The licensing terms are only relevant if you wish to redistribute in a manner that you wouldn't be allowed to under normal copyright law.
All those programs that make you agree to the gpl at installation are wasting time, and may not even understand their own license.
That's uncharitable. They felt attacked because it was an attack. When a country is specifically called out for doing X, it's a valid point to mention that everybody else is doing X, too. No, it doesn't make it ok, but it does highlight that the original criticism was probably biased for calling out just one country specifically.
but are we giving up all pretense that Social Security is an earned benefit?
Losing that pretense might be a good thing; sometimes we need a rude awakening. The myth that each person has a 'social security savings account' somewhere has led to a lot of bad decisions. For better or worse, social security is an entitlement program, paid for out of current taxation and borrowing.
There is no physical or mathematical reason why it cannot be done,
Yes there is. You don't know whether a relative voltage level of 0.01 indicates that this was a 1 overwritten with a zero twice, or a 0 overwritten with a 1 then with two zeros. You cannot know. The voltage level is set by the cumulative (lessening) effect of every write that ever occurred on that spot on the platter, and you do not know how many writes occurred.
The definition of tyranny is not "the removal of choice".
That sounds like an ideal definition of tyranny.

How does the 'Free Market' (TM) work with financial organizations that are 'Too Big To Fail'?
It lets them fail. Socialism bails them out, which is what we've seen recently.

Are you joking or serious?
HAHAHAHAHA.
Just a side note... I don't think any worthwhile comment has ever started out that way.
Don't worry, I'm sure the invisible hand of the free market will step in and all will be OK.

The world has moved on from the 1990s desktop.
Except that every attempt to do so on the pc has been a miserable failure.
Ah, it's you. You now post your anti-space rants on any article that mentions technology, evidently, out of fear that it may lead to more space exploration.
One correction; the airship hull was so strong and light that they were able to fill it with vacuum, which has even more lifting power than helium.

From back when Hollywood bad guys weren't all from the Middle East.
Strange. I'd say Hollywood has been trying very hard to avoid using Middle Eastern characters as bad guys, at least for the last ten years.
