Does it matter who's fault it is ? It is all of our responsibility to not destroy the earth and it will be all of us who die if something happens so we should not waver from doing
everything possible to prevent its destruction. This is not about harming nature its about preserving what we have.

Even if our responses prove futile and nature is wiping us out , we should at least have tried. I think the human race deserves far more than to become extinct through lazyness , apathy and mismangement. There is no excuse for not caring about global warming , only delusions.

than this individual could ever have been.

My concern is mostly about the humans that will end up controlling
it , we could use it safely but given humanities track record of

    at the moment .

Most solar panels at present don't genereate as much energy as it takes to make them , that
doesn't mean they are useless , just that they aren't ready yet . Every technology goes through this phase at some point , it usually takes a bit of a risk to get it to the mainstream. Once its there it benefits from the massive exposure and improves dramatically.

Wake up people we can't carry on using Petrol , wonderkid has the right idea ,find another
way to do things. Don't wait for the government to say 'right everyone , stop using petrol now' , they won't thats where they get their money from so they aren't going to cut their

you are right its not about 3000+ new yorkers mudered in cold blood , its about the thousands who die all over the world every day as a result of united states foreign policy and globalisation . It was certainly a tragic event but lets not pretend it came out of the blue.

Your life might have been impacted slightly and you might have seen some horrible images on tv but you are not being chased by armed soliders , having your ancestral lands appropriated nor being left to deal with consequences of global warming which you where nothing
to do with. Thats only the tip of the iceberg.

The people who were attacked were people who have been benefiting from the exploitation of the poorer parts of the world for years
if anyone deserved such a thing ( which i dont think anyone does ) then the people in those towers where pretty damn close.

If you want to do something about the threat of terrorism then get rid of leaders whos policy provokes it and think about where all the things you love to buy come from , otherwise quit whining.

hard to patch or hack with it cos you'd have to
    redo their work.

This seems at odds with the GPL , on the grounds
that if you use GPL'ed code you must publish not
just the original source but your modifications as well . or am i wrong ?

The firmware upgrade patch is easily dissasembled and i've managed to hack the file system (cramfs) out of the firmware . So there is a possiblilty

In the light of this microsoft monopoly business we should all be thinking about how we can preserve software diversity and not winging about advantages and disadvantages of X software against Y software . I could'nt give a brass farthing if somebody else likes a browser or not, as a web developer all i want is a browser that conforms to HTML and JavaScript properly . This leads me to no conclusion as to which is best only that greater adhearence to specs is needed . As a user i have my specific needs and look for the software that full-fills it and try to avoid the politics - end of story . By setting up camps and raising the issue above it's low status i think peoples time to look in to real issue's is diminished by having to sift through browser wars threads mistaking them for real social commentry . Maybe if people just commented on the positive aspects of each browser something productive may emerge instead of going round in decreasing circles . We could save time by writing a program to post the name of each web browser in turn to a newsgroup . So in answer to the original question , for Navigator 5 to succeed IMHO all it needs is strict standards conformance , to be cross platform and all other bells and whistles easily removable.
