The problem with Eve Online is that it doesn't play like X-Wing. I have a good friend who played Eve, and played X-Wing back in the day, and he said they have nothing in common, gameplay-wise. The only similar thing, from what he said, is that you're flying ships around space.
So when your government blew up a restaurant during supper hour in fallugia saying they believed terrorists were inside, was that a last resort? Or a preemptive strike? When they execute prisoners, is that a last resort?
My government is full of a bunch of evil bastards who get elected because they make pretty speeches. They are not representative of my country.
Your country is violent and vindictive.
No. Saying such things as if the country is made of one uniform mindset is idiotic.
You got involved in a conversation where Shakrai said "If you try to break into my house and I blow you away it's not murder.". He said nothing about the intruder even having a weapon.
Shakrai hasn't said that he believes in blowing someone away for giggles, and I'm sure he's practical enough to understand that you don't escalate things to killing immediately. First you try to not shoot people, then you shoot them in the leg or some non-lethal area, etc etc etc. You put off actually killing the invader as long as you can, but if it comes down to it, then what else are you supposed to do? Let this guy come into your home and commit crimes?
I would say my personal experience is more correct than the so-called "science" of GUI design. It purports to find fact, but the "facts" it finds aren't universally true. If it isn't universally true, it isn't a fact, and it's worthless. If there were people walking around who weren't bound by the law of gravity, we wouldn't hold physics in very high regard, why do people put up with similar bullshit from GUI researchers?
No. RPGs are about telling a story, no more, no less. How detailed the game world is depends on the story. You don't need a detailed game world to tell an epic tale. Even further, you don't need to have the details actually represented in the game to be able to tell the story. If you think that RPGs are about the things you mentioned, you have far too narrow a definition. Those things are elements of RPGs, but not every RPG must necessarily have those things.
Wait. How did you get KOTOR 2 to run on Vista at all? It's the one game which absolutely refuses to run for me: it crashes shortly after I start it up, and the interwebs didn't have any helpful info when I looked.
You don't need an extremely detailed world for an RPG. RPGs are about telling a story, if they do that, then that's all that matters. Coincidentally, many MMMORPGs tell stories. Hell, Final Fantasy games don't have detailed, mutable game worlds, but they are indisputably RPGs.
Yeah. I would pretty much kill for a new, massively multiplayer entry in the X-Wing series. I'd also probably become a hermit, though, so maybe it's good for me that this doesn't exist.
Eh. I personally find that pen-and-paper games are pretty poor as a storytelling endeavor, simply because not that many people are very good at writing up good stories. If you have a DM who weaves a grand, epic tale, I'm sure it's very rewarding. I never had that, so as far as a storytelling medium goes, I'll take RPGs any day. Not that I didn't have fun with my games of D&D, but the fun was in running around hacking and slashing, not from any sort of good story.
No respect for the sanctity of life? My ass. No one says you can shoot whoever the hell you want, the point is you do it as an absolute last resort. If some guy is going to shoot my housemate, you'd better believe I'd rather shoot him than watch him kill my friend. I'm sorry, but the life of the guy who's threatening me or my loved ones is not more valuable than my life or those of my loved ones.
I'm not saying I should be able to shoot some guy who's vandalizing my window. I am saying I should be able to shoot a guy if it's the only way to keep him from shooting me. And quite honestly, if you think otherwise, you're the one who doesn't respect the sanctity of life.
You have the right idea, but you need one more tweak. Make it appear as if there are only a few items to open the door (3 or 4 should do), but then, when The Chosen One (TM) shows up after having collected said artifacts, dramatically reveal the existence of the rest, and that he needs to collect them to really open the door.
I mean, seriously. It's like you've only played the first third of any Zelda game.;)
What the hell? They're cheap now? Looking on newegg, Core 2 Duos seem to hover around $200, while Athlon 64 X2s hover around $100. If 2x the price of your competitor is "cheap", what the fuck is "expensive"?
If anyone is using an Intel GPU, they aren't getting "decent 3D". Intel's GPUs are shit... or at least, every one I've run across was. If you want to get halfway-decent 3D, the first thing you should do with your Intel GPU is throw it out and slap an ATI/nVidia board in there.
EVERYTHING is getting politicized though. I really can't stand it, its like the whole world is slowly morphing into some idiotic advertising. I even had to stop listening to contemporary rock music with lyrics, because it was trying to tell me what to think, which I think I am more competent at deciding than a rock star.
As if rock wasn't politicized in the past? I think you need to pay a bit more attention to various classic rock artists if you think that.
It is an example to point to of a system that does not work.
New York may have high crime rates, but any system that requires me to refrain from using force, even if it's the last possible resort, against someone threatening me in my own home is fucking broken. If high crime rates are the result of me being able to defend myself (which is highly debateable, I might add), then so be it. I refuse to let someone come into my home and shoot my family, or torch my home, or something similar, just because some fail to recognize my right to defend myself.
No, you'd have to include any European countries whose national health care covers abortions. They're murdering their own citizens too.
Isn't unnecessary spin great? See how we can so effectively snuff any rational discussion by tweaking words just a little bit? What a great technique you discovered!
Yeah, Apple isn't perfect. Name one computer company or community that is. But in my experience, they've been much better to work with than anything with Windows installed on it. Your mileage may vary. But I won't stop putting Windows down until they release something that is better than OS X. Vista certainly isn't, so far.
YMMV. But, for my money, Vista, XP, and Win2k are all better than OS X. Hell, 3.1 was better than OS X. OS X has a terrible UI, which I wouldn't use if you paid me to do so.
In the US, iTunes Plus songs cost $1.99, regular songs cost $.99. Dunno what they cost in the UK.

Into what? People's personal opinions? I formed my own, through first-hand experience, thanks.
Gee, you think? That's all anyone can meaningfully say about a UI, so of course it's personal taste.

He should have his arse whipped for making his franchise better? Seems like an odd thing to do to me.

The last thing we need is another mod for WoW (I'm looking directly at you LoTR).
In the defense of LotRO, it is a damn good game. Not as good as WoW, but for a Tolkien fan like myself, it's pretty much a dream come true.
Santa isn't real!
Hey man, spoiler warning! Now my entire world is shattered!
Exactly. Going after the predators would require real effort, and that shit is hard.

Last computer I bought, I got an Intel CPU, since that was the only way I could get decent 3D.
Clarify something here for me: what the hell does your CPU have to do with it? Your GPU is what's pushing the pixels, that's the key component.

Simple, I don't ice fish. Problem solved! ;)
