  1. Re:$9000 and rising? on Segway Hits the Auction Block · · Score: 1

Just watch out for the blue screen of death!

  2. Modern A/V System Decisions on Universal to Copyprotect All CDs · · Score: 1

Many people are electing to replace their old CD players with new DVD players. I replaced my old 5 disc CD changer with a new 5 disc DVD player. I still use it to play CDs, but now I also watch movies on it. Plus it didn't cause me to lose any more precious space in my component rack.

With the copy protection MANY, MANY people will not be able to play music on their system. I don't think that this policy will last very long.

  3. Searching? on Would You Pay A Penny Per Page? · · Score: 1

Quite often I use the internet to find answers to problems that I am having, so I'll search for possible solutions. During the search I will view 100s of pages potentially, but the vast majority of them will have NO pertinent information. Would I have to pay for all of those useless pages?

I would like a "Pay by Choice" option - A simple "Give-em a Cent" button on my web browser - but I am firmly against paying for wasting my time.

  4. Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns& Kohan: Ahriman's G on Making Strategy Games with...Strategy? · · Score: 1

As a beta tester of both of the Kohan games I can say that the developers tried VERY hard to make the game a game of strategy. Instead of controlling single units, you control companies, complete with a leader and support units. Various table-top and turn based strategies a transfered over to the real time engine, including Zones of Control (ZOC), Zones of Population (ZOP), and numerous other concepts.

More than once I've won a battle by having a superior strategy. Flanking becomes particularly useful because the support and ranged units end up being behind the front line melee units.

I strongly reccomend it (although as noted above, I'm biased), and it's even available for Linux!

  5. Disabled Users? on New Cell Phone Typing Solution · · Score: 1

What about people who do not have use of all of their fingers(missing, ect.). Do we now make it so that they can not use a phone?

I think that disabled rights groups would be up in arms about phones that would use this technology.

  6. Authorized way to steal? on CD Copy Protection Head Speaks · · Score: 3, Funny

The software was designed for those people, not for the 1 percent who are going to take the lock cutters and cut the lock off and steal music in an unauthorized way.

So what is the authorized way to steal music?

  7. Re:New World Trade Center...... on Living Inside A Giant Wind Turbine · · Score: 1

I strongly feel that a memorial is needed... But we also need to show the Terrorists that we can an do rebuild.

I think that a new, bigger, more beautiful building needs to be made in its place. Make the bottom floors of the building a memorial and make the rest a sign to anyone who looks at it that we can not and will not allow terrorist activites rule our lives.

A memorial admits defeat. A building denys it. This is not true for most "real"(read: old-fashioned) wars - pure memorials are indeed good and necessary in those cases - but it is VERY true in the case of terrorism. We mustn't let the terrorists win.

  8. We MUST rebuild on More News And Links On Yesterday's Terrorist Attack · · Score: 1
I am definitely for the rebuilding of the towers... Whatever they are replaced with should become an image of several things:

Power. The power of our country, and it's ability to create superior technology.

Remembrance. The new building should pay respects to those that died in this horrible incident.

Perspective. We should not dwell on this for the rest of our lives...

Peace. It needs to be a symbol of peace.

Not sure how to get all that into a single building, but I am sure that it can be done.

There is nothing that says that a building can not be a monument as well.

  11. Re:Quantum Communications on Stop, Light. · · Score: 1

I think that the theory was that two particles can be linked by some "invisible" quantum force, then they can be seperated(By HUGE distances), and then when one particle is affected, the other one responds in kind... I have NO idea if this is correct, but I think I remember reading about it once...

So, basically, you would link two particles, then seperate them, placing one at each end that wants to communicate with eachother, and then use them as a transmission system. I suppose once we figure out what is connecting them, then we MAY be able to eavesdrop on it, but right now I believe that scientists just know the effect, and have no idea about what goes on in between.

  14. Stability? on Magnetic RAM from IBM · · Score: 1

if this RAM is stable through a re-boot, what happens when your memory gets corrupted? All the sudden I'm in an infinite corrupted-ram circle. Do I just pass a big magnet over my computer to "reset" it? I know that works for Hard Drives ;)

  15. Space Management!? on Whistler vs. KDE/Gnome · · Score: 5

I'm really happy for Microsoft's really PRETTY interface, but what about an interface that lets you work more efficiently?

I want to see MORE data on the screen, not LESS... With the "new" start menu, not only do I have to click an extra time to get to anything, it also covers up 1/4 of the screen! The "explorer" now has nice big bars with spaces between them seperating your drives... Can't I see more than 8 drives on the screen at once? Or is that too confusing?

    Anyways, thay's my $0.02 worth...
