    Poor people now can't enter that area of the city with their own cars but they can surely get there using Madrid's pretty good public transportation system.

  2. A lot of good things? You must not be referring to Windows. Windows 10 is the most user-hostile Windows ever: It spies on you, it has ads, it likes to change default programs to Microsoft ones without consulting the user, it reboots to update whenever it wants to. It doesn't respect the user at all.

    I don't know how it is these days but if I remember correctly Nvidia propietary driver on Linux used to consist of two parts:
    • A layer that depended on the kernel version
    • A binary blob that run on that layer
    • That way they could run the same blob on many different Linux systems and kernel versions

    Yep, tech progress was amazing in the 80s and 90s. Now it's small increments and so the changes from year to year are pretty small.
    My PC is from 2014, I wonder how long I'll be able to use it as a system that can do 90% of the things the best can do. At the rate things are going the hardware will probably fail sooner than it'll be obsolete

    That's been my keyboard for the last few years and it works nice and unlike many gaming keybs it's discreet. One thing to note is that the plastic of the shell it's pretty crappy, the keys themselves are ok.
    Why are you worried that many are designed for Windows? Are you afraid you won't be able to use the extra keys and functions or you just hate the Windows logo key?

    Oh manufacturers know smartphones are mature technology it's just more profitable to make hard-to-repair phones that break after 2 years and selling you a new one than making easily-repairable phones that may last 5 or more years.

    Same here. At this point it should be pretty clear to them that they won't be able to make a single interface that works equally well for touch and mouse usage. Some parts of Win 10's UI are touch optimized while others are mouse optimized. Just give up and make 2 distinct UIs

    Well I do like this, because it irritates me that I can't remove those apps which aren't essential to the functioning of the OS and for I which have no use.
    That said, it's true it's a bit ridiculous since we shoud've been able to do this from the start.

    I do like KDE better than Gnome but there's still many things about it I dislike. Nowadays I usually use Xfce, switching to KDE from time to time to see what's new.

  15. I'd be nice if at least all the phones that have a notch would allow to just show black around the notch (the LG G7 does just that). It's an option that doesn't cost much and would content many people.

    Yeah, this.
    You can through varios methods run 99% of games ever released for a PC on a modern PC. Whereas on a console you can run at best games of the previous generation.
    Anyway, I'm not trying to prove PCs are better or anything just that they're a great option for gaming.

    Yeah I have the same impression. To me it looks like a combination of fast changes (Before 10 Windows seemed to evolve slowly) and poor testing.

    Yeah, they're nice for people who use touchscreens I just wish they let you use a "classic" UI if you don't intend to use touch. I know that having 2 UIs is not great but you can't make a great UI that works equally well for touch or mouse usage.

    No, it's not fading. You can get very nice Android phones for 300€, decent ones for 200€. In fact you're now getting more bang for your buck than ever if you stick to sub 400€ phones.
    Yes, the high end has been getting more expensive both in Apple and Android land. But you don't need to buy a Galaxy Note 9 to have a good phone.
    Does Google gather a ton of data about you if you use Android phones? Yes they do. I wish they didn't and they could just charge for Android to the OEMs and not gather any data if they wanted. If that were the case the phones that now cost 300€ might be maybe 50€ more expensive but that's it.

    Nothing suggests any new games will require the newer Switch to work. It would be suicide for them to do so. That hasn't happened either with the refreshes of the PS4 or the Xbox: AFAIK all games work in the older model of each console (obviously with worse performance). So your point about supporting AAA games for a shorter time seems not to be true.
    Yes, the current generation consoles have an standard architecture and their hardware isn't as special as it used to be in older consoles but they're still easier to use than a PC and there're a few good exclusive games on the Switch and Playstation.
    And I say all of this as an exclusively PC gamer. I have friends with consoles and I believe they're a good choice for them. Me, I was going to have a powerful PC anyway so PC it is.

    What I don't like is that some UI elements are obviously designed for touch and thus they have huge controls that are waste of real estate compared to classic mouse-oriented buttons. It'd be nice if there was a way to switch them for the classic controls (Think Windows 7 UI) but it seems we have to live with the lowest common denominator.

    Yes, imagine you're Netflix or Youtube and you're streaming millions of videos at any given time. Better compression will save them lots of money.
    The change to H265 allowed for 4k Blurays which wouldn't be possible with the older codecs. Also many phones still have relatively small amounts of storage so saving space when recording video is worthwhile.
